Megadeth - Peace Sells But Who's Buying reissue. Liner notes with Lars Ulrich

http://www.guitarworld.com/article/m...ersary-edition

Quote:
Megadeth’s platinum-certified 1986 masterpiece, "Peace Sells… But Who’s Buying?," has been digitally remastered for the first time and expanded for a special 25th anniversary release in multiple configurations. It will be released July 12 by Capitol/EMI.

All of the versions, including a 2CD lift-top box, digital album and a deluxe 5Disc+3LP box set, include a previously unreleased 1987 concert from the band’s first world tour and new liner notes written by Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine and Metallica’s Lars Ulrich.

The deluxe box set also includes previously unreleased and rare mixes of the album’s tracks and hi-res audio for the remastered album and concert, as well as an expanded 20-page book, plus 8”x10” photos and reproductions of vintage Megadeth memorabilia. The cover of the box uses a new, unique process of lenticular 3D, which reinterprets the original cover, creating the illusion of Megadeth’s Vic Rattlehead character jumping out of the art.

"Peace Sells… But Who’s Buying?" was Megadeth’s second album and the band’s first for Capitol/EMI. It thrust Megadeth into the international spotlight and remains a thrash metal staple.

In his liner notes for the new edition, Mustaine reflects on writing the title track: “I had written other lyrics by now, but there was something different about ‘Peace Sells’ because it told my story about my faith; my beliefs; my distrust of government; my work ethic; my integrity. This was MY song.”

“If there’s a new way, I’ll be the first in line”

“Amen!,” Mustaine continues. “I was so tired of not shaving, not bathing, not eating, not having a home, a companion, NOTHING. Yeah, I’ll be the first in line, but it had better work this time. Well, it was working, thank God, just fast enough for what I needed, but not nearly as fast as I would hope.”

"Whether you heard this record for the first time in 1986, or you hear this record for the first time today or tomorrow, 'Peace Sells' is a great heavy metal album," writes Ulrich in his liner notes for the new edition. "Nothing more, nothing less. It has stood the test of time. And will continue to do so."

On April 23, Megadeth will join forces with Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax for The Big Four Festival in Indio, California, and The Big Four have confirmed several European shows for July. Megadeth will play more than 20 North American dates in July and August on the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival with Disturbed, Godsmack, Machine Head, In Flames and Trivium.

As much as I respect Dave Mustaine for his insane guitar skills, Im just not into Megadeath like I used to be. He did however play a crazy version of the National Anthem for the Rock & jock baseball game on MTV many many moons ago.

I thought Endgame was a pretty good thrash album. Give it a listen if you haven't. Peace Sells is my fave Megadeth album and got me into them. I love Rust but Good Mourning/Black Friday and Gar's drumming on this album are insane.

Man you had some fantastic seats. YOu should post these in the Big 4 concert thread. A search for Megadeth should pop it up.

What seats? it was standing room only...about 60,000 strong I guess. My fam and I just happen to be in the V.I.P. pit directly in front of the stage but we still had to fight our way to the front barricade on many occasions. It was brutal but well worth it!

I didn't know there was a BIG 4 concert thread, but thanks! I'm on the road right now so I'll try to post the pics there when I get a minute.

Forgot to post that we ended up going to see Down on the May 2nd

L-R: Kirk, Phil Anselmo, Pat Bruders (Crowbar bass player, filling in) Pepper Keenan, and Jimmy Bower (I was a lot closer for most of the show)

Apparently Rex Brown (original bass) is pretty much on extended leave...been reading that he has some addiction problems and all that stuff

Phil looks and sounds like he's 20 years old again...I was really surprised. Chugging vodka, smoking weed, smashing things, etc.

Between every song people were chanting "C.O.C!! C.O.C!!" (as in Corrosion of Conformity, Keenan's band) and Phil would start laughing They played like a 13-minute version of Bury Me In Smoke with the other two opening bands on stage to close the show and tour

Anyways, it was awesome and well worth it! It looks like they're playing a bunch of European shows this summer, but I can't wait to see them again when they come back here!

I just heard about this after reading Dave Mustaine's memoirs (a really interesting read, for those wondering )

I know crap like this is bound to happen once in awhile, but I guess I frown on a bit more simply because of the wide spectrum of popularity between the Excel song and the Metallica song. One was ridiculously popular and most likely the main catalyst that led them into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and the other would have remained unknown to me if I didn't have this pointed out to me in a book.

^^^^ If you haven't already, you should check out Clint Lowery and Morgan Rose's side project, "Call Me No One" - it's Morgan on drums, Clint on guitars and vocals. They just released their first album called Last Parade, and as a Sevendust fan you'll probably like it.

They are a good band. I'm not feeling the singer though. I've seen them live twice. Love the music.

My fave band is Disturbed. David right now is releasing some new on his own label, just finished the album, can't wait to indulge. And I hear System of a Down may come back to their senses and start touring USA.

My new fav band to watch live is The Pretty Reckless--- mmm she looks good

Disturbed does put on a great concert...I thought my hips were being crushed in a vice during one of their mosh pits years ago. I'd hate to be a small person in there

I've also been waiting for SOAD to start touring again, have never seen them live.

I recommend all of you check these guys out. I've had this CD for a few months now and the whole thing is great. Not to mention it's their debut album!! At least listen to 2:43 to the end of Trails in Veins.

Disturbed is super mellow compared to Korn events, holy sh*t. I'm never ever in the mosh.

I hear that Marilyn Manson gives insane performance, but I'm yet to see 'it' live

But I really want to See Volbeat and Godsmack

Korn is anther favorite of mine, seen them many times. Saw Godsmack open for Metallica in '04 and another time, but can't remember when. Not a bad show!

Anybody found any good stuff lately??

Amazon has a lot of stuff for $5 until the end of the month, a decent rock/metal collection.

Anyways, going to see Down (again) on Wednesday! They're doing a full tour right now...they may be in your area!!

^Nice!! Enjoy the show and post pics. The furthest south they're going is Tennessee. I will probably see Alice in Chains in April and maybe Rush again.

The bands with recent albums that I listen to religiously are Machine Head and Lamb of God.

MH's last two albums are insane. Plus they cover really well. They nail Battery by Metallica and Hallowed Be Thy Name by Maiden. Check out the special edition of The Blackening and Unto the Locust. They even have a tribute to Pantera with Aesthetics of Hate. But their best song is Halo. Long song but just awesome. That's on Blackening. On Locust the title track is good but This is the End is soooooooo sick on guitar. Robb Flynn (front man, guitar) and Phil Demmel are so talented.

Lamb of God has a lot of great work in their library. I admit Randy Blythe's voice is an acquired taste but the riffs are what hooked me first. If you check out Redneck you'll see what I mean. Mark Morton writes most of the music and I don't know if it's because he loves blues, hip hop, and classic rock but he has some catchy stuff. Chris Adler is IMO one of the best drummers out there and I think Metal Hammer awarded him with best of the year. The guy is a fucking octopus. The Wrath album really got me into them and Resolution which is their latest is great too. Check out the intro track Straight for the Sun which builds up nicely and then leads to a sick drum solo, then jumps perfectly to the next track Desolation (which has a video). Don't hesitate to bang your head

Down was better than when I saw them the first time, their new "Purple" EP really has them playing well together. This venue is big and was jam packed, wish we could have gotten closer.

The opening band was called Warbeast and are signed by Phil's label. Sounded like a heavier version of Iron Maiden.

They added a few more tour dates in the south east and a bunch of international shows:

Ok Scottman, lets try this again... Love Lamb of God! Walk the faded line. Walk with me in hell. Fucking sick. And like you said, there new album is awsome too. Insurrection is my favorite song on it. If you haven't heard it, check out Killadelphia. It's a live DVD that was also an album. Realesed right before the Sacrament album. They are from my area so I've seen them in little bars beforer they made it big. Talk about insane! They were called Burn the Priest before Lamb of God if you want to dig a little deeper.

Another band I've been listening to for many years is Darkest Hour. I haven't really gotten into there new stuff but the Undoing Ruin album stays in my changer. The whole album is AMAZING start to finish. This is the single that broke them into the Billboard 200 for the first time debuting at 138.

Please listen loud.

But this song from the album is on of my all time favorites. The build up, solo(makes my nipples hard) and outro are just perfection.

And you can't sleep on Mastodon. Amazing musicans. My old band played with them over 10 years in a strip club in front of like 20 people. Now they've toured the world and played for millions.

Blood and fucking Thunder!

Yeah knew about BtP but I've been too lazy to find material from that era. I'll def check out the live DVD. They talk about it all the time. In following Mark Morton (lead guitar) on Twitter, I've learned they're making another DVD but it's probably held up from Randy's (lead singer) legal issues. For those who don't know, at a show in Prague a few years ago, a fan started dancing on the stage. Randy kind of pushed him away but the fan fell off and died that night. Last time they were in Prague he was jailed for a month but was unaware of what happened and that there was a warrant for his arrest. Even after posting bail (twice!) they refused release. Very archaic court system in the Czech Rep. and no help from the American embassy.

Mastodon I fucking love. I was just listening to Blood Mountain a little while ago. Leviathan album is ruthless and Blood and Thunder is my favorite song of theirs. Sick freaking musicians indeed. The drums in BaT are sick. That snare!

You got good taste. Queuing up Darkest Hour - Undoing Ruin on my MOG service.

They just released their first album called Human, and as a Sevendust fan you'll probably like it. (theres even a track featuring Lajon Witherspoon on guest vocals, which happens to be my favorite on the album)

I check out pretty much everything I see in this thread that I don't already know and this will be no different

I got a bunch of new stuff a few weeks ago that I'm trying to get through, will post the good stuff. Keep the suggestions coming!

That legal shit was crazy.

The Leviathan album is a masterpiece!

I'm going to post random videos. I'm stuck in my older music. Haven't really gotten into new stuff.
