The Metal/Hardcore thread.

Every other Genre's got one in here and 15 minutes of searching every combination of things i could think of, i was left with no resemblance of anything close to one.

Taken from the Hip Hop thread..

Quote:
We can use it to inform of album release dates, post our favorite verses, discuss artists and generally debate how watered down the genre has become.
I myself am a -core fan, but listen to pretty much anything heavy.

Ive come to rely heavily on the internet to find new artists etc. I love finding new music, and unfortunatley, ive completley exhausted Last.Fm's suggested music feature. Itune's Genius is pretty much garbage for the genre, i find out new stuff through blogs.. specifically these two

A huge collection -core, reviews and downloads
http://shuttingitdown.blogspot.com/

Pretty much anything and everything outside the U.S. along with some of the more mainstream bands.
http://canalla-metal.blogspot.com/

Quite frankly, im sick and tired of garbage ass mainstream bands selfproclaming themselves as being good and the most progessive thing out there (trivium)

Discuss!

and please, try and keep this to a music specific discussion thread.

I just went to see Lamb of God, Municipal Waste, Suicidal Tendencies, Children of Bodom and God Forbid last Saturday

I like the hardcore stuff but I'm trying to get my ear trained to tune into it more.... I don't wanna sound like a pussy but I think its too fast for me to catch a lot of the lyrics or the subtleties in the music. I actually like thrash metal a lot but prefer more of the heavy metal style... slower, heavier sound.

Ah im with you on that. municipal waste is amazing crossover of punk//thrash, but the high pace of it gets over my head sometimes. Last concert i went to was the Faceless, Meshuggah and Cynic in NYC. that was a brutal ass show. Jersey great, such an amazing scene so many local undiscovered band.

which brings to mind my good friends bands. these are kids i went to highschool with, give em a listen

nice nice. yeah I kinda felt that way too.... and while I'm at it might as well plug my friend's band:

http://www.myspace.com/currency357

They're currently on hiatus pretty much, though I think on their page there's a KILLER cover of Metallica's Dyers Eve.

I can send you there demo + whatever else you want.

If you like slower heavier, more old school stuff.. id Suggest corrosion of conformity, the ghost inside, cataract, Bludgeon.

COC is probably the slowest thing i lsiten to.. the others have there moment's but all are great gateway bands.

I'm not a super hardcore metal fan but some of my favorite bands are Sevendust, Breaking Benjamin and Chevelle. I dunno if you would consider those hardcore.. Sevendust more than the others but still

Also I like some Iron Maiden. <3 Hallowed Be Thy Name and Fear of the Dark

I have and really like the Dave Grohl Project Probot. Where he he wrote and played all the music and had hardcore metal icons come in and write and perform the lyrics.

Haven't listened to anything in a while. I like Sepultura, Pantera, Anthrax, Coal Chamber, Motorhead, Mushroom Head, Powerman 5000, etc. There were some pretty cool bands on the second stage at Ozzfest about 8 years ago.

Haven't been in a long, long time. I think I went in 2001 or 2002.

Edit - It was 02. Right after the dude from Drowning Pool died. They were supposed to be on the tour but had to drop out. At least I think that was what happened.

I'm not too much into hardcore... Pantera's Cowboys Hell/Vulgar Display of Power/Far Beyond Driven is about as heavy as I go...

but was a big fan of Megadeth's Rust in Peach, Peace Sells... Countdown to Extinction were some of my favorite... I LOVE "In my darkest hour" but it's from "So far, so good..." which I didn't too much for...

Metallica from "Kill'em all" to "...and Justice"

White Zombie/Rob Zombie

newer bands: Godsmack, Disturbed...
older bands: Iron Maiden (see avatar ), Judas Priest,

I LOVE this song by the band "Prong" -Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck.... when this song comes up in my iPod Shuffle during my workout, I get really psyched... sometimes I'll just keep playing it over and over

Some of my other faves are AIC, Atreyu, A Perfect Circle, CKY, Machinehead, Exodus, Stabbing Westward (more industrial) Tool... stuff like that

of course gotta love Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera and Slayer. I was incredibly excited when I found out the new GH game had Metallica in it

well yeah but they have been around for what 20+ years.. Darkest hour are guys in their late 20's early 30's. Thats like calling PaNtera, or slayer a local band. I remember seeing darkest hour play at high schools.. not something metellica does. Plus I don't like Metallicas new stuff..

metallica pre garage inc. = win, post = epic fail.

more industrial rock then metal, but i saw dope before they were big, there right out of NYC and Ill nino at the starland ballroom before they signed and released revolotioun/revolucion.

dunno how many people here know em, but Threat Signal's new album is due out sometime next month.

lol, actually if you really knew Metallica history, the band was techically formed in Southen Cali... (James was from La Habra-I believe and Lars was from Newport Beach, the son of a tennis pro, he was spoiled even back then), however the glam rock scene ruled the area in the likes of Motley Crue... Metallica was not very well accepted so they moved to the bay area where they were welcomed with open arms... they don't like admitting the fact perhaps of bitterness...

Secret Chiefs 3

I saw these guys playing at the Oddity Faire, I had absolutely no idea who they were. They never talked or sang and most of the band was wearing hoods like druids. Apparently it is another band from the guitarist from Faith No More and Mr. Bungle.

Are you talking about Glenn Danzig? He's like 5'3" tall. So if he's a giant, how vertically challenged are you?
