I'm supposed to be flying through Tokyo in 4 days, can't really imagine it being a very fun place to connect. Part of me is hoping I'm given the option to cancel my ticket.

Thanks for the education stogie & black label. I did read today that they're adding boric acid to the sea water, but that doesn't change the corrosion factor.

I saw an interview somewhere where a guy was talking about the nuclear power plant explosion and he said there was no explosion, just that the walls around the plant crumbled.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pg4uogOEUrU

@ 46 seconds... that isn't 'crumbling', that is a fucking explosion.

I know you are only passing through you may want to reconsider. You certainly don't want to be on the ground if they have another large one. The after shocks are continuing so no one know's if it's over.

March 13, 2011
The Department of State alerts U.S. citizens to the situation in Japan in the aftermath of a powerful earthquake, measuring 8.9 magnitude, that struck northern Japan on March 11. U.S. citizens should avoid travel to Japan at this time. This Travel Alert supersedes the Travel Alert for Japan dated March 11, 2011, to provide updated information, and expires on April 1, 2011.

The Department of State requests all non-essential official U.S. government personnel defer travel to Japan and also urges U.S. citizens to avoid tourism and non-essential travel to Japan at this time. Flights have resumed at all airports that were closed by the earthquake, with the exception of Sendai Airport in Miyagi Prefecture, which remains flooded. In Tokyo, most public transportation including trains and subways are operating. Many roads have been damaged in the Tokyo area and in northern Japan. In Iwate Prefecture toll road highways are restricted to emergency vehicles only.

The IAEA uses the INES scale to "rate" nuclear plant incidents 1 to 7.

Chernobyl was a 7, TMI was a 5, this one is currently rated 4.

Quote:
....
Level 4: Accident with local consequences

Impact on People and the Environment
Minor release of radioactive material unlikely to result in implementation of planned countermeasures other than local food controls.

At least one death from radiation.
Impact on Radiological Barriers and Control
Fuel melt or damage to fuel resulting in more than 0.1% release of core inventory.

Release of significant quantities of radioactive material within an installation with a high probability of significant public exposure.

There's only so many of those you can look at before you just say, "I know how this is gonna end." Even when you see a house still standing, it's not standing in the same spot it used to be.

Just got a text from a friend. Neither he and I are big on conspiracy theories but I thought this was interesting, regardless. I bet Wackura or StonedCL came up with this....

9/11/01 + 3/10/11 = 12/21/12

More interesting coincidences:

Supposedly 2012 will end the Mayan calendar cycle with "shaking of the earth", like the last cycle ended with flooding (Noah's ark kinda stuff). The Hopi indians also agree with this.

Quote:
Tonight they were talking on the news about the sign for the Third Shaking of the Earth. I heard it while sitting in the airport after I missed my plane. They said they're going to build what the elders called the "house in the sky".

In the 1950's they talked about this: they will build a house and throw it in the sky. When you see people living in the sky on a permanent basis, you will know the Great Spirit is about to grab the earth, this time not with one hand, but with both hands.

Very compelling imagery coming out of Japan.

Scares me to think of how the civilian population on the West Coast is unprepared for a catastrophe of this magnitude if it were to hit stateside.

#1 reactor is now smoking and the 3# reactor just blew.

Also, a new Tsunami warning has been issued for another 10 ft. wave coming. Helicopters can see it coming and people on the northern shores have been warned to get to higher ground. Unreal.

This is horrible. 2 Years ago when I was a senior at college we had some exchange students from Miyagi University of Education we became good friends , most of them lived around Sendai. I hope they are all ok I know so far one is. I never thought Sendai would ever make world headlines.

Explosion at Japan nuclear plant

A second reactor building at the Fukushima Daiichi atomic power plant has exploded but officials say there is a "low possibility" of a dangerous radiation leak

guardian.co.uk, Monday 14 March 2011 03.54 GMT

Japan's nuclear crisis has deepened after a second reactor building at the Fukushima Daiichi atomic power plant exploded on Monday morning. Officials said there was a low possibility that the blast had released radioactive material into the air.

The wall of the building housing the No. 3 reactor collapsed in the explosion, which occurred at 11:01am local time.

Tokyo Electric Power Company said three workers have been injured and seven are missing. Television footage showed a brief red flash followed by a large plume of white smoke.

The blast came two days after a similar explosion at the No. 1 reactor, which occurred after hydrogen ignited when it mixed with oxygen.

Officials had said that coolant levels were lower than usual in the reactor and pressure was higher than normal at the time of the explosion
