Red SRS light intermittent -For Canadians
There are lots of posts in this forum around this issue. SRS light comes on (by the way if the red SRS light is on, the front airbag will not deploy). This normally starts off as intermittent, may go away for a while. Likely cause is a switch inside the drivers side buckle. Spraying contact cleaner sometimes clears up the issue for a couple of weeks. Canadians are not covered by any warranty after the regular one expires.
I decided to bite the bullet and have the buckle replaced at my local Acura ($380.00 parts and labour) and that does not include a diagnosis which I declined.
I had a quick chat with the service manager of my local Acura (Acura 2000 in Brampton Ontario) mentioning that this item should have been covered long term as a safety / airbag issue and he said it was not covered unfortunately. My TSX is now 12 years old, 200,000 km and still runs very well. In fact will be taking it to Florida in a few weeks.
The service manager called me back an hour later and mentioned they had verified the problem was with the buckle and he had called head office about the issue and that they had authorized a full refund of the cost.
Any Canadians may wish to reference this if they are experiencing this problem, check with the dealership service manager and not just stick tape over the warning light.
Note that I am not a heavy user of the Acura Service Department. Oil changes at local Honda rapid lube etc.
