cold starting issues
Hi guys I have some starting issues.
I've made a video :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXOf...ature=youtu.be
There are 2 issues, a noise while starting the car. This is an old one (at least a year) but it was a random one which seem to occur more often lateley.
And the new issue, since the weather got colder my remote engine start, started to fail very often. I have this Viper alarm with remote start since 3 years ago and it worked fine everytime.
Now maybe both issues are related or not sure that is why I'm asking for your opinion.
The battery is only 2 years old.
By the way the noise can be heard twice in my video, first time when it failed to start and second time after start.
What do you think the issue might be, the starter or something else?
The starter, the VTC gear or something else ?

Starter noise sounds like starter "over-run" where starter remains engaged to the flywheel after engine starts. This overspins starter motor and gear train causing the squealing sound you hear. Fix is generally starter replacement.
I had this problem on an Acura MDX and repaired by removing and lubing the starter bendix movement. Problem has not returned. Very common problem on Acura/Honda V6's.
Whether this is what's causing remote start failure is uncertain, but it could be the Viper "gives up" if start doesn't occur promptly. I thought your turnover speed sounded a bit slow. This could be a starter issue, battery wire issue, or battery issue.
good luck

I would agree that it sounds like the starter.

Starter noise is consistent w/ over-run of starter.
However, you have a persistent whine after startup that may be power steering related; possible low PS fluid level, or suction intake air leak.
good luck

The fluids are fine. Also if I had an intake air leak then I should hear it every time I drive I think.
My noise is happening only sometimes in the morning when the engine is cold.
My mechanic think that it might be related to the VTC gear.
If I take the car to the dealer they will not hear it because it's happening only sometimes in the morning.

i've also been getting that squealing on the first start in the colder weather. Especially after the car is left overnight. The weather has been up and down lately and there's no issue on when it's warmer. First start is a grinding squeal, then second start is fine. So weird. Hope the starter is covered under extended warranty lol
