Trunk Light
Hey Guys -- Does anyone know where the trunk light switch is? Sometimes when I open the trunk, the light doesnt come on, I have to open it and close it for it to come on.. I tried different bulbs, so I know its not that.. I probably need to lube it or something
TIA

i went in to the dealer for my first oil change. I had them look at it and my problem was the trunk latch. it wasn't grounding when it opened and i need a new one. The part is 110$ + labor.

I've got the same problem with my trunk light. The bulb is fine so the problem appears to be the latch switch.
What's involved in accessing and removing the latch? I took a quick look at the latch and it looks like you have to remove the upper trunk trim panel to access it. Is that the case?

You might try saturating it with a foaming penetrant. Cyclo "Break Away" is a common example. This is a common problem with Ford door latches, and the penetrating oil almost always works. Then open and close the trunk about 10 times. If it doesn't work right away give it a few days, possibly repeat.

I had the same problem some years back. The dealership said it was caused by the trunk lock latch cable binding. They had to take off the trunk plastic lining to lubricate the cable, and the problem never comes back.

Do you think Liquid Wrench or WD-40 might work also? (I have both of those on the shelf.) Otherewise, where can I pick up Cyclo Break Away? I checked their web site but they didn't list retail locations where it's sold.

In my case, it was the cable binding .. to test for that, just jiggle the interior trunk latch, located on the inside of the trunk lid.. if your light comes on -- thats the problem

There were a couple of other threads that came up when I did my search. One of the others mentioned corrosion on the ground wire, but they all seemed to refer to the latch IIRC.

Burning Brakes
Trunk light inoperative
Both trunk light and trunk open warning light on dash were not working on my 03 tls. Sprayed light coating of silicone spray lube into latch assembly and both now work properly. Thanks for the tip. Love it when everything works the way it's supposed to
