Exclamation Need help with code P1705

1999 Acura TL 3.2

I got code p1705 a few days ago and I went through a diagnostic tree ( I have no idea if it is for the 99, but I found under a video for a 00 or 01 with the same problem). I ended up replacing the A/T gear position switch because connector was damaged. It fixed it for a few days and now its back (only drove it a maximum of 3 miles over these few days). CEL and TCS light is on. Got a P1705 code and car won't shift out of 2nd gear and it wont let me manually shift gears, it also bucked hard and shook when I shifted from park to reverse. From what I understand from other posts, this is a limp mode. I also cant view that video that was on other threads. So now im here asking for help. Is this a sign that the transmission is on its way out or is it an electrical problem. Car does have 180,000 miles on it. I didn't have a transmission put in with the engine replacement.

These are the signs of a shot transmission. I wouldn't even waste money with a 3x3 drainfill at this point. Transmission is gone. Interesting since its a 4AT and not a more common 5AT

This is exactly what I didn't want to see. I've been thinking about dumping this car anyway. Been a PIA since I got it, but I kept it because I have 3 grand in it. 3 effing grand!

Not that bad for a 17 year old car. Look on Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market and you might be able to find a decent one you can put in yourself.

Yeah most of the ones are high miles that are in my price range and I do not have the expertise to install a transmission. This may have been the final nail in the coffin for this car.

Transmission jobs themselves are not hard to do. I replaced a 5spd in an old integra in like an hour or 2 with a buddy. At that time the most work I had done on a car is Oil changes. Its just common sense when it comes to a exact swap(mine still wasnt an exact swap) Just make sure all sensors are reconnected, all hoses on, all bolts tightened to spec and Transmission refilled with fluid(I kinda failed here) and you will be done.

Yes I doubt it will be super hard, but my lack of tools and my hesitation is keeping me from it. Manual transmissions actually seem pretty easy to do, but automatics look a little different to me and it makes me worry about messing something up.

Thats an electrical code, Theres a problem with the position switch not the trans, Did you adjust it properly ? Also make sure the connector is fully seated, take it off the metal bracket then make sure they clip together. Verify that all gear positions light up P R N D4 D3 2 1 if one does not light up adjust accordingly on that position.
Engine should be off with E brake fully engaged.
