Exclamation VSA and the triangle light along with the brake light just came on

Hello,

My VSA and the triangle light along with the brake light are on my 2004 TL.

I checked the brake fluid, and the rear brake light to see when i step on the brakes if they light up and they do.

I searched on this issue and the post ended with the poster taking it to Acura for troubleshooting, and other said master cylinder need to be replaced etc..

i ave 2004 TL with 90k miles out of warranty and the dealer is my last resort.

Can someone tell me how do i troubleshoot this?

thx

My brother got those same lights on his 01 cl type -s auto. He took it to the Acura dealer and they told him his transmission is shot.

update on this.

i had a honda/acura shop inspect it they had the honda scanner.

The code came back as Low Voltage and Brake fluid.

They cleared the low voltage with tighting battery terminals (battery terminals were loose)

They flushed the brake fluid, the code kept coming back. They suggested i need new brakes and rotors cause they are gone.

I had them replace new brake pads and rotors in the front.

Still the code shows up, they are thinking that there is a sensor that is attached to the brake master cylinder and the entire brake master cylinder will need to be replaced.

Before i shell out more bucks on this anyone with this experience has seen that it could be the brake master cylinder/resovir?

They inspected the entire car no check engine lights, tranny shifts fine etc..

Only The brake light, Triangle ! and vsa light is on. The vsa light comes on pass 15mph and remains on.

Can anyone chime in regarding this.

thx

as i mentioned check your battery cables if they are tight, there is a sensor that is attached to the brake master cylinder, his thought was the brake master cylinder needed to be replace.

If you find some other fix for it, plz let me know

I had this same issue on a 2005 Honda Accord V6, I replaced the master cylinder, didn'tdo much, it ended up being ABS unit itself was bad, replaced it for $875, problem was gone.

if any of the abs compenents are not working or if a sensor went bad, the abs light would pop up

I did a similar test but removed the vsa fuse from the box inside the engine and abs came on.

If you disconnect the plug that attaches to brake master cylinder it will turn of the brake light. The triangle is on when the car turns on and vsa pops up after 35 mph.

Did you pull any codes?
You have to get a reader that can pull ABS codes.

autozone, pepboys, etc... should have one of those readers you can use to get the DTC.

Once you get the DTC code, let us know.

Had this same thing happen in my accord (like someone else mentioned above) and it was my VSA modulator. ABS light was not on, either. Just brake, !, and TCS/VSA

This happened to me. Turned out my rear driver's side caliper had seized up. After I replaced it and the brake hose the light never came back.

solved?..

I have the same problem but the VSA light and the triangle with the exclamation mark on it comes on intermittently but when i shut off the car and turn it back on the lights are gone. I went to a friend who is a mechanic and he ran the codes and it showed low voltage but checked the alternator and battery both worked fine and he also got a code for brake light switch so once he changed that out i no longer had the problem. Hope this info helps some of you

Start with the basics-- have you checked the brake fluid level?

Check under hood fuse 13 for horn, fuse 4 for trail lights. While at it, check all the fuses under there...

Im having this same problem. Code comes up low brake fluid. I topped off and it went away. Came back a month later. Filled up and now it stays on. I unplgged the wire to the resevoir and the light goes off. Is there a sensor/float in the resevoir that is able to be replaced?

Thanks in advance...will keep posted

Taking to local shop to check pad thickness as I have read this could cause fluid level to drop as the calipers have to push pads futher.

Just a follow up to some having this same problem.

VSA/Brake light was due to the float being stuck in the resevoir. That was leading the sensor to read low fluid.

Hey everyone, I know that this thread is old and has been picked back up a couple of times through the years, but I'm out of troubleshooting steps. Here's the deal: I have a 06 TL with almost 200k miles. Before mind blowing or boggling begins, its 90% highway miles, I drive 150 miles round trip to my work, 5 days a week. Anyways, I've owned the car since 2011 with 59k miles, I maintain oil changes every 3k miles, which is usually about once a month for me, and always use Full Synthetic oil, either Mobile 1 or Royal Purple(which is overkill, but with my long distance, I need it to be reliable). The transmission fluid gets a flush service at the dealership once a year, and a 3x1 change once every 6 months. Brakes are well maintained, slot & ported rotors, platinum ceramic brake pads, DOT4 (haven't ordered 5.1) flushed once a year.

Recently, I found my rear running lights on, not brake lights like when the brake pedal is pressed, when the car was off & locked. At the time this first occurred, no DTC or ABS codes, or any lights on the dash were on. Disconnected the battery and it went away for a day or so. Then they came on again, still no dash lights or codes on, just the running lights in the rear, and the brake lights worked when you pressed on the brakes. Didn't worry about it too much, I was lazy and didn't investigate too much. After a few weeks, the Triangle "!" light came on while driving home from work. After restarting the car, it didn't come on the rest of my travel home, and not until I arrived at work the next morning......

So now, a few weeks and lots of troubleshooting/researching later, the Triangle "!" light is always on, and after reaching 20-30 mph, the "VSA" light turns on. Note, when I first start the car up and the VSA light hasn't turned on yet, but the Triangle "!" is on, there are no DTC or ABS codes. Once the VSA light turns on, the ABS code 84-1 "Sensor Logic Failure" is produced, but thats it. I clear the ABS code with my OBDII/ABS scanner, and the VSA light clears, but the Triangle "!" light stays on, same thing happens when restarting the car.

Troubleshooting: I have replaced the Brake light switch, the APP Sensor, tested all 4 Transmission Control Solenoids (first unplugging each one and watching a code pop, then taking each one out and applying power to them to feel/hear them click), flushed the entire brake fluid system, cleaned all 4 ABS/Wheel sensors (as well as unplugging each one and watching a code pop), Did a 3x1 transmission fluid change (the oil was dark but not burnt), and the neutral safety switch is working fine.

Before I changed the APP Sensor, the car did do a traction control stutter on take off, but that has been resolved. Also, after changing the neutral safety switch, the running lights issue has been resolved. I have two fairly new Optima batteries in the car, red top under the hood, and a yellow top in the trunk, (for the sound system), which are at equal amps and tested good on a hard battery test (took the batteries out of the car to test inside the part store rather than that little hand held crap tester). Oh yeah, the HFL unit was removed a long time ago, so battery drain and low voltage are not the problem. Also, the VSA switch/button isn't doing anything, even after holding the button for a long period of time.

Sorry for the really long post, I wanted to make sure I listed every possible thing going on and every possible troubleshooting step I've taken. I have a Santech OBDII/ABS scanner that I am using to read and clear the codes... Is it possible that there are codes or clearing methods that a "Honda" scanner would/could do? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you all!

Bumping this thread. I just had the same problem for a few days and it turns out that I was running low on brake fluid. After adding some brake fluid, the VSA and e-brake lights disappeared.

Thanks so much for the quick and dirty suggestion. I had a fuse out & had no idea.

To anyone still having this problem, start with these cheap ($30 or less) self solutions first
- check the battery connection
- check the fuses (as mentioned above. Mine was the rear lights)
- check the break sensor
.....if all those check out and you don't have a different error code. Might be time to take it in.
