Trunk won't stay up

Hi everyone, tonight when I popped open my trunk it didn't pop up as it usually does so I tried to lift it and it was super heavy! On top of it, it wouldn't stay up! Tried a couple of times and same thing kept happening. Any suggestions on what may have happened? Thanks

The torsion bar or bars came off or broken. Follow the trunk hinges up under the package tray and you will see steel bars running from one side to the other. Are they broken or loose? If its broken- replace or loose- reattach.

There are a total of 2 torsion bars. One on each side running across to the other.

SPRING, R. TRUNK OPENER
SPRING, L. TRUNK OPENER

Didn't specify part numbers since it may vary by year.

There is a special tool called out in the service manual to install them but you may not need it. If you are going to attempt this repair yourself then let us know and I'm sure someone will jump in with more detail on how to do (or what they did)

You don't really need a special tool, a flat screwdriver/small pry bar will do. Once you inspect it, it becomes easier to understand how it works.
People sometimes put it on the higher setting so it springs more instead of barely going up after a few years I believe.
