I had the same problem when I initially purchased a 2007 TLS. I brought that care back so many times I contacted Acura and filed a complaint against them. They actually replaced my car with a 2008 which I still have. They had me go to so many dealerships to look at it and say they fixed it. I would leave and the light would come back on. I believe it's a glitch in the computer's software causing that. Nontheless for a premiium brand I wasn't taking the dealerships' or manufacter's excuses. Contact the BBB if you have to. Kepp all of your service records and log each time the light comes on. I did all this and they can't argue with facts in front of them.

Thanks citidelx but I think I found the answer. It appears to be a simple replacement of the PCV (i hope). I'm going to order the part and try to get it done this weekend.

I guess it's my turn to have this. On the way to work I got the message. Haven't touched the cap for half a tank or nearly 2 weeks. I'm just going to see if it comes back and if it does I'll do the cap which probably won't help and then do the purge control solenoid. FWIW, calling it a PCV is a little misleading.

On my Merc it was actually a relay with a some bad solder that was throwing the gas cap code (as ... oh yeah, did I mention I discovered this when I was on my 3rd gas cap?

Good Sweet Grief

Folks... as it's been stated before... it's the purge control valve (solenoid). I was out of warranty on my 2007 but I took it to my local dealer and told them to give me a goodwill replacement as it is a 'well documented' issue out on the Acura forums. I had replaced the gas cap with my own dime so told them they needed to make it good. They did. Haven't had a problem since.

Anybody have a ballpark on the cost of a pcv?
I will just change myself since my car is out of warranty.
2008 TL, just over 50k miles, grrrrr, had the error show up twice in last few months, seems like the trouble light is becoming more frequent. Car was in dealer a few weeks ago, they would not change any parts due to no stored code or error message while in the shop.

Yeah for diagnostic fee charge of $100 I will order the part and change it out myself for less money as well. Mine is intermittent and goes away each time with a simple restart.

I know several people have asked but I didnt see a response to the question. What are the downsides of taking no action and just ignoring the message?

Interesting...Once I got down to near sea level, my warning was coming on every day. Now back up above 4,000 feet, it hasn't come on once in nearly a week. Atmospheric pressure must exacerbate the problem.

What altitude does everyone live at w/ the problem?

Florida here. Persistent gas cap warning, with no end in sight. Currently dealing with transferring the extended Acura warranty in my name before I go to the dealer to fix the myriad of problems, e.g., non working seat heaters (both sides), gas cap warning, rear deck rattle, etc... Sigh.....

My passenger seat heater has failed and I too have the rear deck rattle. I looked up a TSB and it looks like the rear suspension is the culprit. Can anyone confirm or deny? Please let me know if the dealer is able to fix it and what it was!

Acura quality isn't what it used to be. My rear bumper’s color doesn't match the rest of the car, rattle/ticks from driver's side vent and upper pillar, under dash, & center speaker, unknown vibration from rear part of car (not suspension related) fuel cap warning, clutch is fried, have to replace TPMS sensor, DRL relay crapped out on me, have weird spring-like-thing nearly poking through driver's front seat, starter died last weekend, and fuel cap warning, of course. Those are the current problems or the one’s I’ve fixed in the last 5,000 miles. Car only has 72,000 miles and I take very good care of my cars.

My 1st gen TL had the EGR valve go out at about 80,000 miles which dealer replaced and the starter died shortly after. The only other problem I had with the car was the radiator and brake master cylinder went out around 160,000 miles. No ticks, rattles, leaks, or anything else. Next car will be Toyota/Lexus.

I agree, my tl is taken very good care of and I am at that 50k mark with few problems already fixed and lots of squeaks and rattles.
I have the intermittent light warning but until it stays on I am not changing parts.

I would but have no idea where the part is on the car that needs to be replaced.

My light has come up again another time... I'm at almost 100k miles but I hope the dealer can do it as a goodwill repair still....

Well...looks like it is my turn to go through the tighten gas cap routine, I will start by replacing the gas cap AND the EVAP canister purge valve located by the throttle body (not to be confused with a $5 plastic PCV valve). Also, in case you are wondering...I live in Canada so it makes more sense to order both parts now so I only pay for shipping once.

Visit www.oemacuraparts.com and you can order the following parts:

New Gas Cap $15.36 (#17670-SHJ-A02)
New EVAP Canister Purge Valve $83.21 (#36162-RDV-J01)

I will re-post on this thread in a few weeks if my above actions do not fix the problem.

p.s. Symptoms are as follows:

1. Filled tank, drove to about 50% fuel mark, check gas cap warning came on.
2. Tightened gas cap, filled tank, warning cleared itself within a few minutes.
3. 1 week later, hit the 50% fuel mark again and the gas cap warning returned.

Back side under throttle body. I ordered from acurapempart.com and cost me about $96 shipped. It's easy ass hell to change. 5min tops. The factory installed part is made in Mexico and the part ordered from Acura is made in Japan. Noticed that when I compared both parts side by side. Both made by Denso and almost simalar part num but stamped diff country. It's been 3 weeks for me now and no light since. Honda part #36162-RDV-J01

Good luck with your fix, hope you found it.

WTH - Light is back off now with 1/4 tank left!

Haven't placed my order yet so I'm gonna try gas cap first and see if that helps...I have to order more parts for my 105k on my MDX soon anyways (will get it then if gas cap doesn't fix it).

FYI - parts are cheaper through Tim @ www.oemacuraparts.com and he offers a discount code on shipping %50 off orders $20+ and free shipping for orders $500+ (promo codes can be found easily on this website), I used to order through www.acuraoemparts.com but they are more expensive.

I'm having this issue now.

Whats the downside to simply ignoring this message? I can live with an annoying MID message, but what am i putting at risk by taking no action?

There's no downside that I noticed besides my nerves building up with the light coming on just about everytime I drove the car. I never noticed anything unusual happening or performance lost. Now that the prob is fixed its very nice not to see the light come on at all!!!

The cel is probably somethng else and you should have it scanned to see what it is. My cel never came on in my car from the gas cap light. And for the part, there is no instructions but it's a simple part to change. Unplug harness & hose then loosen 2 nuts(top and bottom). Simple as that

Just started having this issue as soon as I started driving the '07 TL-S I bought from my company. (A well maintained vehicle driven by the President of my company.) I simply reset the error message over and over at the moment and ignore it, but appreciate the thread and comments I've found so far. As I have some higher mileage on this car, I expect to do the fix on my own. (120k) I will look to post an update once I have resolution, assuming the PCV is it!

Thanks!

Mine came up.... 40K for a 2005 TL. I dont really drive the car and it seems to have been a week before the light died. Never came up since. I'm sure the problem will come back.

Just an update...my car is @ the local dealer now. For me, they said that TSB 09-056 did not apply. According to the bulletin, there must NOT be a pending or confirmed DTC. In my case when they ran the diagnostic check, there was a confirmed DTC with a "P" code showing. Did anyone else have a confirmed P code when having their dealer run the check? They said it would cost around $400 to have all the items noted here replaced, including labor...however, they will just clear the code for me now and not charge me anything unless it happens again. If any of you have encountered the P code confirmation, please let us know the outcomes...thanks.
