Seat memory buttons not working

05 TL seat memory buttons not functioning nor showing any indication of getting power - LEDs not working; replaced #20 fuse even though other indictiors of that prob not manifest, eg, washer/wiper working, rear view mirror dimmer working, etc; any suggestions?

You can check the memory switches in the module via a series of continuity checks in the procedure I've attached.

As guitarplayer16 mentioned, have you had any issues with either of your side mirror actuators? There has been a common theme within this forum regarding memory seat issues related to faulty actuators. Otherwise you could have an issue with your multiplex control unit, which interfaces with your position memory switches.

thx for suggestions; both side mirrors seem to have jerky jerky twitching movement but they do move; is that symptomatic of actuator problem; thats been going on for a while, over a year, but the seat memory just failed within pas week; also would actuator prob result in not even LEDs showing signs of life on memory controls? will look into the continuity check procedure - thx for that

My memory LEDs sometimes go on and off intermittently. I have malfunctioning mirror actuators right now.
Sometimes when I unlock my car the mirror would move all the way up into the sky as if it thinks that's my position.
Then I have to set it back down and resave my memory position.

This may be the result of a malfunctioned mirror actuator as the MICU believes that the mirror is not in your saved position, so that's why the LED doesn't light up.

If both of your side mirrors are twitching, this may very well be your issue and you might consider starting with replacing those. You can buy the OEM side mirror actuators for around $40/each (look on Amazon). I didn't have the memory seat button issues you are describing, but I once had an issue that required me to press the memory seat button several times in order for the seats and side mirrors to go into the set memory position. My left side mirror actuator was twitching/ratcheting at the time, so I replaced it. Low and behold, no further issues.

Try this first. It's fixed many folks clicking mirrors including mine

IIRC, there's a TSB to replace the seat memory module. I had it done 11 years ago on my 04. Pretty sure it applies to 05 as well. Worth checking out...

Edit: Yep, TSB 04-005. Go here and follow the instructions to pull it up:

I'm having an issue when I shift into reverse and whichever mirror tilts for curb view. Sometimes the mirrors goes nuts causing it to tilt upward and keeps the actuator running. The motor will run until I throw the mirror selector switch into the middle (or opposite side). My memory setting erase as well.

I'm thinking the door control module may be the culprit.

Did you ever figure out what it was?

Try this, as it was referenced above:
https://acurazine.com/forums/problems-fixes-114/3g-mirror-repair-pictures-3g-garage-e-045-a-832020/

if that doesn't help, replace your mirror actuators. This issue has been mentioned many, many times on this forum, and is almost always fixed by replacing the mirror actuators.

Replacing the mirror actuators did nothing for me. Those fail a lot, but there are a lot of other pieces of hardware in the memory seat loop.

That makes sense. I've seen the odd other issue as well.

But elaborate on your issue, did you have stuttering actuators in reverse? Did they have a mind of their own when you'd unlock with the remote? It might be useful to others as well if you can share what issue you had and what fixed it.

A few things can cause the seat memory to not work, but I find if it kicks out and the mirror actuators are having issues, it's usually related.

Wow thanks for the replies. My mirrors DO tilt up and start ratcheting when I unlock the doors. I can also adjust them via the 4 way switch. Memory buttons DON'T work. Windshield washer fluid DOES work so the fuse is not the problem. So you're saying the mirror actuators are faulty even if they work?

My mirror actuators "worked", but were quite wonky, stuttering, and wondered around from time to time. Then my seat memory stopped working. Replaced the actuators, and all was happy again.

The motors in the actuators work, so my best guess is the resistance contact strips to detect position stop working correctly causing the memory issues. Never really dug into it since replacing stopped the stuttering as well as fixed the seat memory issues.

I was perpetually locked out of the memory functions because the system thought something hadn't moved into position yet, along with the stuttering in reverse and the mirrors wandering off to stare in useless directions every time the car was unlocked. I replaced the actuators and solved the stuttering, but the other two issues remained, so I gave up and unlinked the fobs.

Check the wiring harness that goes to the door. At this age, the wiring could be dried out. This has been known to be the cause when all else has failed.

Just wanted to contribute my experiences with this issue on my 2008 TL Type-S:
- Passenger mirror jerks and doesn't return properly when putting the car from reverse to drive
- Memory seat buttons will fail intermittently and when it does, there's no green light

I've shamefully allowed this issue to get worse over the years so I'm diving in and will try following this thread chronologically:
- check mirror actuator
- check multiplex control unit
- read and try https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-p...-045-a-832020/
- look into TSB 04-005
- check wiring harness for weathering

I've replaced my passenger mirror altogether because the housing was cracked. It seems that the memory buttons are working a little better. The driver side is a little jerky still, so I'm going to take the mirror off to clean and lube the actuator to see if that fixes it before I buy a replacement actuator.

In an unexpected turn of events, mirrors are working great now that weather is warmed up. As if there was never an issue! I expect the issue to come back. For the moment, I won't be replacing anything

So I took apart the broken one I replaced the other day, and it looks like there's nothing mechanically wrong with the actuator. It was just really dirty. I also found a suggestion in another thread to clean them and put new silicone lube on them. Ultimately, I just ordered another actuator for my driver side since I found one under $40 shipped. So once that gets replaced, I'll take a closer look at the old one. I have a feeling the issue stems from dirty mixing with the grease and get either dry up and seize a joint or is physically interfering with tolerances in the joint. I'll see if I can get some pictures when it arrives next week.
