Problem: Green "Drive" light blinking!

That's incorrect. You could take the car to a place like AAMCO, and they could rebuild or replace the transmission for you. I'm not sure if it would be cheaper, or what the warranty is like from a place like that, but you could do it.
You could also pull a tranny out of a wreck and install yourself if you're mechanically inclined. But you're really rolling the dice if you do that, because you could very well be buying another bad tranny. Additionally, if you buy a tranny out of a wrecked vehicle, most likely you won't find a shop that will install it for you.

If the mechanical history of this car has been documented fairly well then you should look for the timing belt service, the oil change intervals and transmission service. I'd say hey, the tranny is crap, offer $5k USD IF the mechanical history is well documented and timing belt, oil changes, transmission service has been done appropriately otherwise walk away. I paid $3k to get a REMAN tranny from Acura put in, it has a 3yr / 36k mile warranty.

Not always true.. sometimes it's when they engine has been degreased and looks shiny and spotless.. that's when you want to beware. At least the condition is honest and you can check for leaks. Engine compartment cleanliness is a double edged sword.

What year and how many miles was your car when you had the tranny put in? Did it just fail out of the blue? Was there physical signs or just the blinking green D?

That would be great, thank you.
Just called the dealer.
He said it's been in twice for the blinking D. He checked the system and said both times they drove it, no physical issue, pulled the codes, and there wasn't any. So no codes, which is why they can't diagnose the problem. Tech said he's pretty confident it's going to end up being a sensor (maybe temp guage he said) since they don't feel or see anything physically wrong with it and if it were a specific sensor right now the code would point them to it.
Opinion please?

To me it sounds like a sensor somewhere, perhaps in the shifter... (maybe previous owner spilled a drink in it?)
Anyone know what could cause this?

I had these symptoms on my 05 TL. VSA light, Engine light, Caution light and flashing green light on the drive indicator. The car seemed like the emergency brake was on or it was staring off in 3rd gear. It was in "limp mode". I replaced the APP Sensor but that did not work. I took it to Acura and they pulled code P0976. It turned out that the shift Solenoid B had a low circuit and the wiring harness to that plugged into the solenoid was burned up. They had found water in the connector. They suspected that it was done when the dealer cleaned the engine before the sale of the car which I had only had for a few months.
I was very relieved that it was not a major tranny problem. Although I bought the car used and "As Is" the dealer paid for the repair in good faith.
Hope this is helpful to someone in the future.

8 things you need to know if have an Acura TL 04-05
I´m new on this community but i would like to share some points regards the D- Blinking issue:
1. Yes it´s a common issue on Acura TL 04-5 according to forums discussion (my perception)
2. If you car lights on the VSA,Check Engine and D flashing and trannie just works on 2 and 3rd shift mean it´s on safe mode (Limped in)
*You should not dirve this way unless is nessesary, to park, get home or take it to a shop or dealer, sometime when you turn off the car it just come up normal but thats doesn´t mean you can drive it again expecting nothing to happend.
3. This Limp in mode is cause for some electrical/fluid issue so the trannie computer detected and changes the tranie to safe mode.
4. Pressure switch are around 67 dlls on the dealership near you.
5. Mechanichal wear will not be advice by some sort of code or light or anything in your dash board
6. If your are wondering how´s your trannie mechanical parts ask yourself this easy questions
How many times did i service my trannie?
How do i drive my acura?
How manny miles is my acura?
Under whats conditions do i normaly drive my car?(Weather)
Do i listen to my trannie symptoms?
7. Using the right fluids and a propper operantion will increase the life of your trannie.(For those who still in time to considder a trannie service.)
8. Rebulding a transmission as you already now it´s supper expensive unless you live in south Sandiego Area
Hope this info helps you.

I have the same issue with my TL that is in meticulous condition (all service records all done at the same dealership it was bought at and sold back) and it was well taken care of, however I wouldn't explain the light as "blinking". It seems to "flicker" and if I switch it over to SportShift the same thing happens and I can't control the shifting, while the gear indicator flickers. It will hunt up and down once or twice, and putting the car in and out of SportShift usually fixes it, or into Neutral. No codes stored because the light stays lit after. The transmission shifts great (and I've already replaced both 3rd and 4th gear pressure switches) and over the 10k miles I've owned it (115.5k now), it's done this maybe at most 10 times? It seems to happen every once in a while. I drove over 20+ hours on vacation and it didn't do it once but it's happened twice in the last two months... the previous owned had the trans fluid replaced ~60k miles and I got a drain/refill a couple months ago.
To me it sounds like a sensor somewhere, perhaps in the shifter... (maybe previous owner spilled a drink in it?)
Anyone know what could cause this?

This is so beyond true! AAMCO IS BY FAR THE WORST ! Everything sounds real good at the front desk & make you feel like they are gonna take great care of you & your vehicle. If you ask how long they think it's gonna take & how much it will cost; they will tell you 3 days & they have to get it in the shop & have tech look at it...that's when you need to leave!!! I had 97 honda prelude didn't know what was wrong with it I new it wasn't going into gear & so I took it to I them. Dropped it off with them & said ok 3 days isn't that bad. Told them to go ahead & fix it but call me first! Well 3 days turned into 3 & a half weeks saying that my transmission was a special type of transmission from California & they had to order new one from Cali & also the AAMCO TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST DIDNT EVEN WORK AT THAT LOCATION & my transmission was takin to another store about 30 miles away & parts had already been ordered & should be on there way to the other store so the guy could rebuild my transmission. Well that's what confused me why if my transmission is a special type of transmission & I needed & they ordered a new one why is he rebuilding the one they took out? If they ordered brand new one why did it not get sent to store that my car is at so the tech can just put new transmission in & me be on my way! That was my question! Well after everything they rack up a $3800 bill for me for a car that I spent $2000 on! Pretty sure I told them to call me first before they did anything like ordering anything after they diagnose problem! Yeah told me it was bad & gave me quote of $1000-$1400 so I said alright!!! Thinking they was gonna just rebuild it & order parts but no! As read above that wasn't the case after the conversation! Finally after I got my car back from them I got to drive car for 4-5 days & then it started over heating all the time & losing my coolant every short while but there wasn't any leaks anywhere under the car or any milky colored oil in engine so to this day it blows my mind where my coolant was going! Literally got so bad I couldn't even drive 1 mile before having to pull over wait 10 mins then add more water. That was after I got it back & it never did that before I took it to them. So long story short don't trust or go to aaamco unless you like getting hard earned money takin from you or you like throwing it away... if you do I'm always more than happy & willing to accept the $ & when you do get your vehicle back there will be more things wrong with it then when you took it to them In first place! 100% TRUE STORY!!!
Now on I have an Acura TL 2005 & my check engine light just came on & the green light is blinking next to the D but in every other gear I put it in the light will move to each & every gear I put transmission in while still blinking on the D! I'm at autozone now but really wish all of us new exactly what it was that's going on!

Error codes at autozone are...
P0957-Short in Transmission Gear Selection Switch Circuit, or Transmission Gear Selection Stuck ON.
P0958-P0957-Short in Transmission Gear Selection Switch Circuit, or Transmission Gear Selection Stuck OFF.
Suggested parts recommended is the Vehicle Speed Sensor.
How It Works:
a sensor that takes the place of The speedometer cable. It's purpose is to measure the speed of vechicle & sends this information to the vehicle computer. Data enables the computer to control the cruise control system, lock up torque converter, transmission up or down shift points & emissions control.
When it it doesn't work:
A failed VSS effect the cruise control, torque converter lock up & emission controls.
Part is $49.99 but have absolutely no idea where this sensor location is. Asked autozone guy to look at his parts info & location & there wasn't any info in the system to tell us so google it is!

What exactly did they replace ? The harness and the solenoid B sensor ??

I know this is an old thread but I'm looking for a little guidance on a blinking D (Drive) light.
Good morning. I was about to purchase a 2005 Acura TL with 150,000 miles on it. One owner with all work done at the dealer. Dealer confirmed history of car and how well it has been taken care of, and that it's all highway mileage with the owner already putting 50,000 miles on his 2008 TL (I spoke to 2 separate techs there). The current owner brought the car in twice now for the green D light indicator blinking. He said no other signs (physical) from the transmission that there's a problem. Dealer both times said they couldn't find a problem, and the codes they read lead them to believe it's a sensor that's working intermittently, which is why they can't pinpoint exactly which one and fix it. Does this make any sense?
Should I be worried about having the transmission go completely and cost $5000 to fix (considering I'm paying $9000 for the car that would be insane to pay for repairs)? Or is the dealer correct that if it were a physical problem there would be other signs like grinding, noise, stuck in certain gears, difficulty shifting etc.? Thank you for your time.
Any experience with the Third Gen TL transmission failing completely and needing replacement? Or are these blinking D lights usually fixed with a sensor or other small repair?
Thanks,
Rashid
