Lightbulb Drone noise bad on XLR8 quad with stock cat

Hey, anybody here suffered from bad drone noise from modded cat-back?

I have 2004 TL manual with XLR8 Quad with stock cat and everything.

The problem is it drones like fck when I cruise around 2500 to 3000 rpm..

Any suggestions to fix it or improve without major mod??

Also, if you guys no any muffler shop or mech around West LA area.

Please let me know..

Thanks, Happy holidays!

are you running the resonated quads or non resonated?

Have you inspected the rest of the piping if everything is bolted up right?

did you use the gaskets provided?

the xlr8 resonator is very small, almost non-existent. i would recommend you get a larger resonator. that's what i did when i changed to the HFPCs, which increased my noise to more than i wanted.

also do you have a V1 or V2 xlr8 catback? the second version came with "purge resonance technology" which supposedly significantly cut down on drone. you shouldn't have much drone (you will still have some) if you are running stock cats.

One thing I doubt is I might have dangling cat since I had an accident from backside and thats why I got XLR8... but the technician at muffler shop said there is no leak and its properly installed.. so

When did you buy it? If more recent than 2011 or so then you have the latest version.

If you have the latest version, you can try adding a larger resonator. Search for a thread called something like "how to tame the rasp" and there's some good info about resonators in there by richie (rv6)

i looked at this thread when i was looking for a bigger resonator instead of the xlr8 one (but again, i wouldn't expect you to need a bigger resonator with stock cats...the noise mostly increases more with HFPCs or PCDs):

i have RV6 pcds and v3 jpipe wirh XLR8 v2 resonated exhaust. the drone actually is very tolerable. but it gets agressive with wot. i can comfortably cruise on the interstate at 85-90 mph at 3k rpm at 6am hardly awake and not be botherd by it. i may however add a magnaflow resonator instead of the xlr8 one just to tame it when im in wot. but goddamn it sounds so good all the way to redline

Thanks for all the helps,
but Is there anyway preventing droning other than adding resonator? like put other j pipe... etc...
?
