'05 TL AT Shakes HARD when idiling

Last night I went out for a ride, at a red light started hard, not a vibration it was shaking. I pulled over , looked under the hood and couldn't see anything. I turned my car on again, it barely started and when it did started shaking badly again. When I drive it's fine, keep it above 1500 rpm at a red light it's fine. It just turned 100000 miles last night. I haven't had the timing belt service yet. Any ideas? Thanks!

Does it sound like it's going to stall? If so it could be your EGR valve, may have a piece of carbon stuck in it.

Sounds like a failed ignition coil Check the coils first. Timing belt service should be done soon as possible considering the age.

Any CEL/warning light? If so, get the code read.

Without a CEL, I'd concur with the thought that it's an EGR valve problem-- mine went rough during low idle for a couple of days without a CEL at less than 60K.

A bad ignition coil would normally generate a CEL immediately.

Yeah the CEL is on. It didn't come on until I turned the car off and then back on. Taking it to the stealership tm...gonna bite the bullet and get the timing belt service done too. It feels like it wants to stall.

autozone will get the code for you for free, way better than the dealer who is going to try and give a thousand dollar repair bill.

You'll need to buy 6 new spark plugs with the timing belt service. Autozone/amazon has them for around $7-8 each vs 18 at the dealer.

Ended up being a stuck piece of carbon. I didn't do the timing belt service , I need new tires too. Trying to decide if it's worth putting 2500 into it...

timing belt service can be done for around 800 at an independent shop, and new set of tires for about 400-500

While you're at Autozone, grab a scanner, one of the better investments you'll make if you're a car nut.

I picked up this many years ago and keep it in the trunk.

Why would anybody pay 250$ for an OBDII scanner when you can buy a 5$ OBDII bluetooth adapter off ebay and a 5$ application and have A LOT MORE function?

Adapter off ebay

App (android)

With today's smartphone, i dont understand why companies still charge absurd prices for scanners.
