How do I check if a coil pack has gone bad?

Hi, I think one of my coil packs has gone bad. How can I check this at home?

Hmm - I don't know, but if I had to guess I would say you should check for continuity in the coil (to make sure it's not broken) and check each coils resistance as well. They should all be the same. If one is very different from all of the rest, I'd say it's probably bad.

Unfortunately I don't know what those values should be. Anybody else?

your engine usually mis-fires if a coilpack goes bad

Go to Autozone for a free CEL read. Swap a good one with the bad one and read the CEL code again.

Thanks

I bought a new coil at the dealer and replaced one at a time to find the one that was failing. Of course, it was the 6th one I checked that was the culprit. I almost lost hope when I got to number 5. :-)

Engine runs fine now.

Thanks again
