Car trunk won't properly lock... need help.

I believe my trunk was slammed too hard when it was being closed and now it wont properly lock. After my girl closed my trunk last night I attempted to drive home until i hear my trunk flapping up and down. pulled over and found a spring sticking out the hole of the trunk lock. I took the spring out of the hole. The spring doesn't look broken, just out of place.. Now in order to lock my trunk I have to keep slamming my trunk continuously until the lock shifts up and holds my trunk down cuz the spring is no longer there to retract it. Anyone knows how to put the spring back or has any solutions please let me know. Thanks.

Take apart the plastic liner to get access to the lock mechanism. See if you can put the spring back into it's original place.

Yeah but I don't know where the spring is attached to in the first place..

That happened to me a month ago. Too bad I didn't take any pics when I opened the latch up. It took less than 10 minutes to fix. I thought I had to get a new lock mechanism, but it was a loose spring. Open up the plastic cover and see if you can find where the spring might go. If I remember, it goes sideways and hooks onto two notches (hard to describe). If you need more help, I can open mine up and take a pic for you when I am not working. It's snowing like crazy so might not be right away.
