5G 2014 TL (Lets discuss ....)

The 5G 2014 TL will be release in about 2 years April 2013. Its completely redesigned with much more horsepower and a 7 speed automatic transmission. Can't really give out too many details. The other features will blow your mind.:toocool:
I know this sucks for most of you who just bought the 2011 or are planning to buy the 2012 TL. But I guess progress stops for no one.
One of the reasons why the 2012 TL was release this early was because the 2009-2011 model design was quickly losing popularity especially due to the exterior looks. Something had to be done fast.

Stew4HD 03-24-2011 09:56 AM

There is already a 5G dream thread.. sorry

justnspace 03-24-2011 09:59 AM

is this how rumors are spread?

acurator99 03-24-2011 10:01 AM

I was hoping for a more serious discussion since that other thread has all BS posted in it like the flux capacitor.:yuck:

There is no way in hell anything Acura will get a 7-speed automatic transmission in the next 2-3 years. They just rolled out with their 6 speed and if the past is any indicator (and it is), Honda/Acura will milk old technology for as long as they can, and the 6spd was just unveiled, like, what? a year and a half ago?

The only reason anyone could possibly accept this rumor is if we received official word of the new V-6 that they are supposed to (or should) be developing.

Besides, with Honda bringing back CVT's in their 4 cylinders, it is more likely that Acura engines will soon find themselves paired with one of those... What a horrible thought!

I was not going to comment, but what you just stated above makes no sense at all to me and probably most people. Why are you talking about 2014, why not talk about 2020, or 2026?? These cars are YEARS away, lets just hope the world is at peace, the economy comes back and we all have our good health... Heading to the mountains and Desert of Eastern San Diego county on Friday and will be in heaven as my 2010 SH-AWD takes the winding roads with precision, or should I forgo all this fun and enjoyment, sell my 2010, and wait for 2014??? :whyme::whyme:

Get your 2012 folks, or save a TON of money and get the Classic and still Best looking 2011... By the time the 2014 rolls around the cars will change to aggressive styling, and I bet and hope the 2011 will be right in the crowd with that cutting edge style I loved from the first day I saw it...:thumbsup:

acurator99 03-24-2011 10:06 AM

Its ok dude. Just accept the change. You could always trade in your 2010 TL which will be 4 years old then. Whats the big deal?:wish:

I knew there would a lot of resistance from 2009-2011 TL owners.:whyme:

Accurator, I believe everyone here doesn't believe a word you're saying, or you'd recognize that by now and actually post some kind of proof (where you work, what you do, design photographs/sketches, etc)

Acura has kept the same concept V-6 engine for 13 years now (maybe longer?) and although I believe it's life is nearing the end, you had better start talking new V-6 development news before anyone will buy your "rumor" talk of a new 7 speed transmission. In fact, one of the national magazine publications recently had an interview with someone at Honda/Acura where they stated they could've made the new 6 speed a 7 or 8 like other companies are doing, but their analysis and testing concluded that they wouldn't be any more efficient.

Until then, you're just trying to blow smoke up everyone's asses. And yes, if Acura were to unveil something new and completely overhauled (engine, transmission, suspension, dynamics) for 2014, you'll bet your sweet ass I'll trade in the 2010 I have...as long as it has a manual transmission.

acurator99 03-24-2011 10:19 AM

Ok ignore everything else that I said. We will find out in 2013 anyways.
Just think about and tell me the reason why the 2012 TL was released this early? Is there something wrong with the 2011 TL?

I don't think there will be a new transmission, they'll probably drag this one for 2-3 more generations of cars (10-15 years) before releasing a new one unless there's some breakthrough tech.

I do think that they will unveil that new V6 they've been talking about with one of the FMCs, the ones that I can see are the RL, RDX, MDX, which should be about 1-2 years away at most. It should then get into the TL.

It's size should not increase IMO. It's already a big car, and solidly in the midsize category. They should work a bit more on rear passenger comfort, the current one is a very traditional sedan with the drivetrain lump on the rear floor and rear seat. Attempting to flatten the rear floor would significantly increase rear passenger comfort.

They should also increase sound deadning, and provide better bump absorbtion for the base model. The SHAWD, since it's the sporty model, should be fine with being a bit more noisy. Also figure out a way to flatten the trunk floor, the current one, especially SHAWD, is a bit awkward and lumpy.

Weight also appears to be a problem with the TL. Both TL's are pretty heavy, and neither of them FEEL nimble, despite their relatively good handling. Decreasing weight would only benefit the FE and handling of each vehicle.. and no, I do not know they'd do that, I'm not an engineer nor do I work for any car company.

Featurewise, the top model should match the ZDX and RL.

Acura should have figured out by now that not everyone that wants a luxury car is willing to deal with the poor gas mileage. My parents don't drive fast, they'd love a vehicle the size of the TL, but don't want the poor gas mileage. I hope that they make a hybrid version of all their vehicles. There was talk awhile back of a large vehicle hybrid system, since IMA only appears to work for small vehicles. It would be great to see an acura the size of my TL get mpg in the low-mid 30's for city, mid-high 30's for hwy.

I know the 5GTL is still quite far away, but I wish you guys would be a bit more serious in it's speculation. The other 5gtl spec thread felt like an off topic thread filled with trolls, and is a poor representation of this forum.

You join in March 2010 but only have a total of 22 posts and 17 of them are in this thread

You just wake up today and decide lets troll the 4G section or something

Stew4HD 03-24-2011 11:05 AM

Why bother speculating? As you can see, not many people care to do it. Acura will do what Acura does and we'll see it when they give it to us. Good luck getting any of us to be serious about something we have NO control over. It's called.. uh hem. Get ready for it? Here is comes... R-E-A-L-I-T-Y.. ever heard of it?

acurator99 03-24-2011 11:06 AM

Well the current TL has some obvious issues. Many will agree with the unattractive rear. The back seat lacks leg space. Infinity G already has a 7 speed transmission with 25 more HP. Clearly the TL is lacking behind. BTW the G is cheaper and faster than the TL.
So thats why the 2014 TL will have a 7 speed with more horse power. How many 2009-2011 TLs do we see on the roads today? Very few. In this case seeing is believing. Thread bashers are forgiven. I expected this type of responses to my thread. Its a heart sinking feeling to know that something better will be released in a couple of years.
