HELP MISFIRE CYLINDER 4 & 5 & Random
So I just bought this car about 3 weeks ago. My CEL came on and the VSA traction light I took it to autozone, they told me it was cylinder 4 and 5 and random misfire. I took it to mechanic he changed the coils for 4 &5 and my plugs, and cleaned the injectors. I drive car lights off second time I turn it on after I picked it up lights back on, this time I take it its the EGR valve. So then I take it back to the mechanic, he has it for 3 days, checks everything. My car isnt misfiring, its running normal, its just that LIGHT!! The mechanic couldnt find a problem with it at all and he said he wasted a lot of time. WHAT do I do? Any suggestions anyone else have the same problem? My car runs normal, doesnt misfire, or do anything "funny". I really am stressed about it and need any suggestions I can get.
oh btw after the second trip at mechanic, the egr code is gone now the misfire codes are back!!
hey bro i had the same problem too. brought it to bunch of shops and they cant find anything wrong wit it. its been doing this since april. im still trying to find out wats wrong wit it.
If you car running fine as well? I cant figure out what the problem is and the mechanics cant either. My mechanic suggesting it might be a bad ecu? but then again why would it constantly give out the same codes? Have you fixed or replaced anything? I need to get it fixed soon as in AZ we have to do emissions. And my car wont pass with the stupid light on!!
Reset the ECU and swap the coil packs on cylinders 4 and 5 to other cylinders and see what happens if the CEL comes back on.

Make sure your mechanic replaced the plugs with OEM NGK's. These cars are real particular about having the right plugs.
Yeah the mechanic has replaced the plugs to the correct ones, the coils have been replaced. The CEL was rest with scanner at the shop then once I took it home the light came back on, went toautozone it was a EGR issue, took it back to the mechanic he had it for 3 days trying to figure out what the problem was and couldnt find anything wrong with the car, and rest the light, and now the light is back and its the misfire codes again. No EGR code. But the car seems to run fine, he suggested the ECU might be bad, but I have no idea how to go about replacing it or what to do. I heard its really expensive.. But either way I have to fix this problem soon, with stupid AZ laws and emissions I have to take my car in and if dont pass I wont be able to get plates. I dont know what to do!!

Try to clean egr and im that may help
the previous owner had replaced the egr valve at the acura dealership in '08 I do have the paperwork he gave me for it, could it still be the egr?
Not the EGR valve itself, but the port in the intake manifold. It may be clogged.
by chance do you have any idea how much it would cost to get it looked at and cleaned?
Its easy enough to do it yourself so I never looked into paying someone else to do it.
Well I am a female, and dont have that many tools.. Ive only done oil changes on my previous cars, and basics.. So I have no idea where to look. I went from a POS neon to a acura and the engine well at least to me looks very different under the hood. So I havent attempted to do anything myself yet.
My bad. But as I said Im not sure how much it would cost to do that. Its not a difficult process, so the shop shouldnt overcharge you for it. Once you remove the top cover of the intake manifold you will see a port close to the throttle body. Thats the EGR port and they can have so much build up that it begins to block the flow of the gases from the valve. And just to verify, you said the shop reset the ecu and the misfire codes came back. Were the codes for the same cylinders as before? |
After I had the plugs changed and coils, the code that came back was a EGR VALAVE P091 I think not a 100% on that its been couple weeks. Then I took it back to the shop thats when he had it for 3 days and looked at everything he told me car isnt misfiring he cannot locate the problem, and then I took car and of course the CEL came back on so once again I went to autoze and yup, the same misfire codes showed up! Its cylinder 4 &5 and random cylinder misfire.
Right now i have 1 2 3 and 6 missfire. Engine start to run like shit. Its sounds like subaru now. Lol. I think it may be gasket underneath the intake manifold. We can help you do it yourself i have some pictures and i can post it up later.
Its unlikely its the gasket unless the top cover was removed recently.
I believe clogged injectors will cause a misfire code. If you have the opportunity, swap one of the coils with the #6 cylinder, reset the ecu (pull the #13 fuse for 20 seconds on the passenger side fuse box), and have the codes read again when the CEL comes back. Cylinders 4,5, and 6 are the front cylinders (when looking at the engine from left to right), so its easy to get to them. It wont take long to swap one of the coils, just remove the front engine cover (two plastic flat head screws) and the coils are bolted down with a hex head screw. Unbolt it, unplug it, and gently pull it straight out. Im hesitant to say its the EGR when you have codes for specific cylinders. |
It seems to me that everyone is starting to have this problem now. I started to suffer from this problem about 2 weeks ago and it is just getting worse. I hope everyone will find out whats wrong with their car
It got worse today. Here is a video coming from my exhaust and the smell coming from the exhaust smells pretty foul.

When I had a misfire on another car of mine, it also turned out the oxygen sensor was bad
Just an idea(might not relate) |
lol peeps I have the same issue. Dont know if this helps but my mechanic thinks it may be a crank sensor starting to go bad or the fuel pump starting to go out. I dont think its the crank sensor though because if thats disco then the car will not even rev past 2,000rpm. The fuel pump could cause I guess if its not putting out a constant pressure???....someone verify. Im just relaying what my mechanic said.
I was finally able to solve my problem with my car. It turns out that i had 2 bad fuel injectors and one bad coil. After having those be replaced. My car sounds like a beast again. Since most of you guys have the same problem as me with anything relating to misfire with the scanner, i would most definitely check your fuel injectors first. just a thought.
