Lost the Wheel Lock Key

Would a Acura/Honda dealer have a master key that they could use to get the wheel lock off each wheel?

They will probably make you buy it unless they're really lax about it. Or if you have the work done at the dealership that requires taking the lugs off they probably won't make you buy it. When I went to get a new key they didn't mention anything about borrowing one, but I could be wrong.

Yes. They have a master set.

Actually more than 1 set since McGard has changed the lock sets from time-to-time.

They will also sell you a key once they figure out which key fits your locks.

Yes they have master keys

The dealer should have no problem finding the correct replacement key and selling you a new one.

If you lose the key and really must get the lock off, a trick you can try is to take a cheap 12 point socket that's slightly smaller than the wheel lock (like around 17mm) and beat it onto the lock with a hammer until it's stuck, then wrench it off like normal.

Keep in mind this should only be attempted in emergencies as it will ruin the socket and lock.

Those wheels are stuck onto your car forever.

I kid.
Maybe you should contact them and ask.

I lost mine. $20 for a new one.

I lost mine less than 2 months ago. Went to the dealer and brought them in a extra wheel lock lug nut I had laying in the spare tire tray.

Guy at the parts department took to wheel lug and went to the back and found a match. He came back saying it was the only 1 they had and originally it's their own part that they use in the shop.

He told me since it was their personal master key and it was used he gave it to me for free

I spoke with Ed at Duval Acura, and he's going to help me out. Very nice guy. I hope they don't charge more than $40 for a new key.

How did you loose the key already!? You may also contact Jason Combs at OP Acura. He's a sponsor of AZ and may be able to get you a discount. I'll PM you his number.

Sounds like a bad weekend for lug keys... I just lost the key for my work lugs on Saturday :whyme:

+1 on the dealer finding a replacement

As for the aftermarket lugs, I am going to take a picture of the lock lug and send it in with the hopes of getting a replacement

Went to Acura of Orange Park, and they charged me $55 for a new wheel lock. I was not happy, but I was not going to drive any more than that and risk a flat tire.

I forgot mine on one of the wheels after changing pads and had to order a new one. There is a number and a code on the Mcgard slip that came with the key. I just called that number and bought a new one over the phone. It cost $15 and I had it in 2 days. I walked up and down the street looking for the old one and never found it haha. I live out in the country so it is in a ditch somewhere.

Just bang a 12 point 19mm socket over it and remove it (P.S make it a craftsman and exchange it afterwards)

they key should cost around $15, I bought one before and that how I know it.

Lost mine a while back too when I had stock wheels. They usually have a master set that they keep. I have a bad habit of leaving the lock on the lug after I put my wheels on and driving off.
