Trunk pops open randomly

A couple (early) mornings ago, I was about to drive off to work when the trunk opened suddenly. I had to exit the car several times because the trunk kept opening up. When I was finally able to move the car, the trunk opened again. I pulled over, shut down the car, walked more than three feet away, then restarted the car. The trunk still opened a time or two before settling down.

It still occasionally opens by itself, usually when the car is stopped.

Bizarre.

-I have a brand new car battery, freshly installed in the last two weeks.
-I'm not a large person and accidentally pushing the trunk release in my pocket. :) In fact, to test this possibility, I initially kept the key fob outside my pocket and still had the problem.
-So far as I can tell, the remote works from my office (the car is parked about 50 feet away where I can see it....lucky me!) so I'm not sure it's the keyfob battery.

I'm going to replace the battery in the key fob anyway to see if that resolves the situation. I haven't changed it since I bought the car almost 2 1/2 years ago. If not helpful, I plan a trip to the dealer.

Any other ideas? Has this happened to anyone else?

gremlins....they're back

right wing conspiracy...

do you get swept of all nuclear material when you leave the hospital?...

when you fuel up, did you put a tiger in your tank...

Aren't you glad its still under warranty....In the end, Acura will likely replace some body based computer which will cost over 1k. We all love technology when it works for us...but when it works against us, we are ready for the days of simple automotive technology with a rotary key lock.

Ice in the release button?

We'll find out whether I've still got the problem when I drive to church today.

only time I had that happen, wife's fob was in the trunk, but in that case, it will not stay shut at all.

Bob, there is a manual release lever in the trunk. Did you check to see if anybody was in the trunk?

Interesting as the touch release in the back is deactivated once the car is started. Perhaps a bad switch? If it keeps happening I would disconnect the switch to test.

I've opened the trunk plenty of times with the car running.

Using the rear release? Located on the deck lid?

Yup. Perhaps mine is different as it was moved as part of the rear camera install.

Or just a setting, I know I would not want someone running up and opening my trunk in Los Angeles while I'm stuck in traffic. Mine will not open if the car is on unless I use the door switch.

Now you got me thinking so I ran out to the car...

Trunk opened with the deck lid switch when the engine was off, running, and even when the car was in drive. Not too concerned about someone opening my trunk in traffic though. With the rear view camera install, the button is moved to the right side of the trunk and after 2+ years, I (sometimes) still can't find it!

The problem seems to have self-abated. Maybe my trip to church yesterday absolved the car of all its sin....

One more thing to comment to the service lads (and lady) at Motorcars at my next oil change.

Shhhhhh! You weren't supposed to tell anyone! Dang! You're next.... :D

The next time the problem manifests, try the valet switch in the glove box and see what happens. That is one other circuit, however, the switch that is more vulnerable is the new switch that was installed with the rear camera. You wonder what that salt spray does over time if the seal is not perfect?
