maybe some will do it but not me. i dont even own a welder and why would you go through all of that for 2 fenders, all you have to do is go to www.rollyourfender.com and for $50 you get to do it yourself and dont have to go to lowes to get parts to build one. good post never the less, havent seen that one before but just by looking over it youll be spending a lot more time acquiring parts and building it than it does to roll the fenders

maybe you want to own one?

why mod your car when you can have someone else to do it? why clear your headlights when you can send it to someone to do it? because some of us actually like getting dirty, and going for the challenge. not everyone is made to do this anyways. separates the boys from the men :tomato:

im not rich by any means, but ive bought every damn thing on this car and every car ive ever bought and owned. if you dont have $250 in your bank account why bother with any mods. besides, how much is a decent tig or whatever welder you need, plus all the parts?

im all for DIY, always have been but your never going to find me doing this project (building this tool). like i said this is for TWO fenders, now if you owned a shop, hell yeah id build this shit the second i read it but for me...nahhhh. so you roll your fenders then what, stick it in the back of the garage for it to collect spider webs?

not speaking for myself by not everyone has $250, or feels safe "depositing" $250. building this tool why? you can use it for your own car... this won't be the only car any of us own... you will own a lot more cars in your life... also if you look it at a different way you can not only roll the fenders of all your cars in the future but as well as ur friend's cars... charge them, etc.

people buy fender rollers anyways.... this is just a cost efficent way that i found that i thought was cool, doesn't mean that i will build it or anyone on this forum. it's just awesome that someone was creative enough to figure it out.

welding doesn't cost much either... this might be perfect for someone who does weld or have friends who do, its mainly for the vw owners since they most likely have the jack already.

not to offend you but this thread is worth looking at for those who are considering rolling their fenders

why not just rent the fender roller tool @ a local garage for $25, roll your fender, then return it?

That seems like a lot of work.

I got a one from Eastwood. It was around $230. Ive used it a few times, so that alone covers the rental costs. I can also let locals use it if they need to.

With the offsets youre running I dont *think* you need to roll your fenders.

and it seems like one of those tools, much easier to just go buy, then trying to go source a.ll the materials and such

True, if I had one though, I'd probably preemptively roll all of them, might as well!

I often thought, why not use a cutting wheel and cut part of the inner fender out. But then I guess you take away some of the tensile strength AND you then have to deal with rust.

Touch up paint over the edges should help fight the rust.

The reason it doesnt work smoothly is because the roller itself doesnt pivot so you cant finesse the lip of the fender.

but then also if cut too much off, you also lose the spot welds which hold the quarter panel (visible part) to the inner wheelwell housing (very structural), so yeah not to good to cut there so freely


but then also you will have a sharp edge which could easily cut a tire open, so another advantage to just rolling then cutting there

then as civic said paint (or undercoating) is your friend as far as preventing the rust and such

so basically, either do it right, or not at all.. GOT IT. lol
I'm getting tires on in the next few days so I'll figure out if I NEED to do it then. I'm rubbing SLIGHTLY with 245 40 18 with the camber at -.5 rear right now...so we'll see...depending on the how the offset sits with the 235 35 19, I may be able to dial in a little more camber and avoid rubbing at all.

Ok, don't think I'll be needing the roller finally. Got 4 people in the car yesterday and without adding camber or raising up the suspension I have no rubbing with the 235's, even on 19's. So far, so good!
