how to change daytime running lights?

hello hello,

i have looked for DIY on here for it, but im not finding anything. i know ppl have changed the LIGHTS on the car to the high intensity lamps which i believe require you to open your headlights. but i am looking to change my daytime running lights. i have been looking for some YELLOW bulbs, but i cannot find. but more importantly, are the daytimes easy to change. aka can i just reach down and unclip the bulb and pull it out like you can in the older accords or civics?

or do i have to remove the entire headlight and stuff?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure what year your TL is, but I replaced the bulbs in the DRL's to Nokya Hyper Yellow. It was easy, just reach in, twist and replace the bulb. You don't have to open your headlights. Bulb changing is in your owners manual btw.

I wouldn't say it's easy. You have to remove some engine cover pieces and this other air exhaust tube thing for the driver side DRL. You will also have to contort your arm and hand and basically do it blind because you won't have a good angle to see the light fixture. Once you do it once it becomes a lot easier though.

Yes, you will need to remove some of the plastic trim in the front. Then lean over and see where the bulbs are. Then reach in and twist the bulbs out. I remember bitching at it a few times because it is really tight, but eventually they will turn. Good luck.

easy... stuff......

if its the first time they are being changed....then it will you will have to put some muscle to turning them...thats all.

oh sick...thank you all for the help. i am just glad its a process just reaching in and not unbolting the entire headlights and opening them up etc etc.

Curious...do you know of a good place online to purchase lights from?

my TL is an 2005. and i im curious how you like the yellow DRL??

would you by chance have any pics with yours???

im going to check my local auto store and see what they have, and do some online hunting. seems like ebay is where most bulbs are being sold. i guess i could check some performance shops as well.

im guessing if i want to actually change the LAMPS, that would require me to remove the headlights completely?

No headlight removal. Just reach in behind them. Here's a few pics:

With an 05, you don't have DRL's stock. You either need/or have the autobarn.com DRL module which converts your factory foglights into DRL's.

You can pick up the Nokya yellow bulbs on ebay for about 20 bucks shipped. I got the 80 watt ones so far, no problems.

What do you mean by "lamps"? ALL bulbs on your TL can be changed WITHOUT removing the headlight or opening anything up. Only reason to do that is if you wanted to black them out or take out the reflectors or retrofit OTHER projectors in there.

oh...i thought i would have to open the casing of the lights to change the lights...like the actual lights, sorry im mad noob and dont know the technical term..

ummm the DRL are bulbs.. but the actual lights are like in a round lense thing. and i wanted to in the future add angel eyes to them, and i thought in order to do that, i would have to open the entire thing and do it. seeing some other posts, i thought that is the only way to replace the headlights or do mods. but i did notice my DRL are the little bulbs.

i think the yellow and white/blueish lights look great together...i wish i had the fogs.

i think my DRL are set up differently in the states, us crazy canadians have to have lights as STOCK.. but in those pics... you can put the yellow lights on AND your regular lights (the blueish color)

how my car works is.. the DRL are on as i start the car... then if i do one turn... the orange side lights come on... and then when i turn one more time..(which turns the lights on) my DRL shut off and the lights come on with the side orange lights.

rockstar143 06-02-2009 03:01 PM

That's normal. And the fact that yours is Canadian answers the question! Your car HAS to have DRL's...even in 2004-06. For us in the states...your DRL lights are OUR original foglights. If you want the bumper lights look up the garage for 2003 Accord fog light install. It's a retrofit...if you're a noob you might need a hand...but it's doable! Then you just change to HID's for the bluish white look.

PS...for angel eyes...you would have to open up the light. With the possibility for condensation and putting my TL lights in an oven, I've opted to not mess with stuff llike that!

ok so i went to autobarn but i can find the drl module can you help me out...

SilvarTL. Just drive to Markham and head to PMall.
It's on Kennedy/Steeles. Just take 401 east. You'll see an exit for Kennedy, merge onto the Collector's to exit on Kennedy [you should be in front of Kennedy Commons]. Take the north exit, which should be on your left. Drive straight down.
There are three shops in which you can get yellow DRL bulbs at PMall [Pacific Mall]. They cost roughly $20-25.

Like the other members have said, just remove the battery cover and the left cover for the washer reservoir. Reach behind the headlight from the engine bay. Locate a blue socket/connector. It should lead to the bulb. Twist that bulb until it loosens from the headlight. Pull it out carefully. Disconnect the bulb from the harness. Connect your new bulb and reverse the process.
Note that the passenger side, I find, is a little more difficult as it is a tighter to reach.
Or maybe that's because I have an intake.

o4Komodo 06-14-2009 05:48 PM

If you need help... just come to Square1 on Hurontario with your new bulbs. We have meets there every Thursday nights. We are outside of the Zellers area. In bad weather conditions we are underground at P3 I believe it is.
There should be a bunch of Accord guys hanging around [with some TLs/CLs/TSX].

I don't think that's true for the bulbs...I want to say you twist them downward.
