iSimple + iOS 4 (iPhone) = no worky

I'm running the GM iOS4 on my iPhone 3G and it no longer works with the iSimple device in my '04 TL Navi. I have the latest firmware on the iSimple unit, as far as I know.

All I get is a repeated "This device is not supported." Any idea if there is an update in the works by Peripheral?

I'm also running the older cable with one of those converters to support charging on my iPhone 3G. Maybe that's the issue, but I don't know.

Eiswritsat 06-21-2010 08:09 PM

I Gave the warning last week but no one replied https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-audio-bluetooth-electronics-navigation-94/ios4-aka-4-0-isimple-780356/

tragichero 06-21-2010 09:12 PM

Might have to wait until the iSimple unit comes out with new firmware that supports iOS4?

Jcaron9gt4 06-21-2010 09:16 PM

Not that it may make a difference, but does anyone know if the 3GS's will be fine with the isimple? I'd rather have a working in car ipod than have 4.0.

it doesnt matter the device 2g, 3g, 3gs its the firmware thats the issue, etc

mantan 06-21-2010 10:53 PM

Yep, it's a firmware issue. My 3GS stopped working with the adapter as soon as I updated the OS.

Hopefully a firmware update is coming. How hard is it to do a firmware udpate. I'm assuming there is a USB cable on the box somewhere. I had it professionally installed, so I'm not sure. Do you have to yank the dash and hook up the USB cable to upload the file?

eluzion 06-21-2010 11:00 PM

Yeah you have to hook up a USB (mini connector on one end like you use for a digital camera or PS3 controller) cable to the device to update the firmware.

I'm surprised there isn't a firmware update out already, seeing how the iOS 4 GM has been out for a couple weeks now... and this basically the companies primary product.

My AUX doesn't even work... hopefully a firmware update fixes that as well.

Jcaron9gt4 06-22-2010 07:52 AM

Well I'll wait until an update comes around...music in car > new features on iphone.

mantan 06-22-2010 10:03 AM

Got an email from iSimple today. They say the new OS requries a certification chip. The fix will be a small circuit board that will replace the existing board on theri interface. They say unscrew and plug (sounds like inserting a PCI item on old PC). They say it should be available around July 5 and will cost $9.95.

It sounds like iOS4 is going to be a headache for most of their product line.

I don't want to butcher my car, so I'll have to pay to get it installed which I'll likely be another $30. ;-(

AMIC 06-22-2010 03:01 PM

You'd think they would have tested something like this a while back and realized that it didn't work. And $10 for the fix seems a bit much. I rarely use my iphone as an ipod and will probably not do this upgrade as it took me quite a while to find firmware that worked well with my regular ipod. I don't want to spoil anything.

Jcaron9gt4 06-22-2010 03:13 PM

Sorry to go off topic in this, but does anyone with their isimple have the most up to date firmware? My firmware is about a year old and doesn't support text. Meaning I have no title/artist/name shown on my nav or clock display. It simply says "Aux 1". Now I have the new firmware, just haven't installed it yet because I heard the new firmwares disable the use of the iphone while it's plugged in. I like selecting songs from my iphone rather than look through the library via nav. Anyone know if the newest firmwares disable the iphone user interface?

iSimple 06-22-2010 03:26 PM

Guys and Gals,

Sorry for the confusion. Let me clear it up a bit.

YES, the GMC (Golden Master Candidate) for iOS4 has been available for about 2 weeks now. We have decided however to make sure that there was not another change before its release. That is why it will be released soon and was not before.

YES, the PXAMG-iC will be available on or before the 5th of July.

NO, the price is not 9.95 it is actually 29.95 and will include a USB to mini-USB cable along with complete instructions on how to update both the hardware and firmware. Our tech that provided that information made a typo and you should be getting a follow up email that states this.

There is however a way that it can be used in the vehicle until it is released. Disconnect the module. Leave it sit disconnected for about 10 mins. Flip dip switch number 4 to the on position. Plug the module back in. This will give you AUX1 and AUX2 this will give you audio only and no control at all. AUX1 will be the port furthest to the dip switches and AUX2 is the port closest.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks,

You are mistaken. The firmware has not limited you to only seeing AUX1 it is that you are in the wrong mode. All you need to do is press the FM button then the XM button and immediately turn the tune knob until "iPod" is displayed on the screen.

The newest firmware can be found on our website "www.pac-audio.com/firmware" and will allow for full use of the iPod from the raiod and iPhone from the phone itself.

Thanks,

Jcaron9gt4 06-22-2010 06:04 PM

Yes, but when I go into "IPOD" mode, I lose all ability to change songs, artists with my iphone. So it's either I stick with not having the title and artist appear on my nav, or I have it appear and lose the ability to change songs with my iphone. I emailed isimple, and I was told it was because of the firmware I have.

eluzion 06-22-2010 08:45 PM

Shouldn't we be able to connect into the headphone jack on the iPhone and use it that way as well? For whatever reason, my 3.5mm connector is not working. I tried it with my iPhone and iPod shuffle. I've tried selecting both AUX 1 and AUX 2 but I don't get anything.

Thanks,

One of your techs told me on the phone yesterday the module would cost $9.95. While I understand $29.95 is a more 'realistic' cost for such an upgrade, it's a bit disappointing to have received such faulty information straight from a company representative.

SuMeRiaN 06-23-2010 04:50 PM

Shazbot...

mantan 06-24-2010 07:28 AM

The iSimple tech later confirmed the error in price. I understand things are moving quickly with the upgrade and issues and understand how that could occur.

I should have posted the clarification when it occurred so others didn't have bad information.

The Drew 06-24-2010 07:34 AM

Man this is some BS... why cant it be as "isimple" as plugging in the USB to your laptop, connecting to the isimple website and downloading an update for the firmware to support ios4... sounds more realistic isimple... but instead we have to pay an additional $30 just to convert the old piece?? I guess i have a $130 ipohne charger in my car now!

AMIC 06-24-2010 01:07 PM

Just posted in the iPhone 4 thread that I tried my iPhone 3G running iOS4 and it worked fine.

That's weird. You didn't repeatedly get a pop-up saying "This accessory is not supported..." with a big "Dismiss" button? It kept popping up and closing quickly so I couldn't even hit dismiss.

Do you have the updated cable that charges the iPhone 3G? I'm running the passPORT adapter since I have the older cable but I tried it both with and without the adapter and I have the same issue.

I'm also running the latest firmware (.38 I think it is)? I just got my iPhone 4 the other day so I'll give that a shot.

eluzion 06-25-2010 04:13 PM

I tried with the iPhone 4 and it still doesn't work. I have the older cable, however.

angel113 06-26-2010 01:30 PM

iPhone 4 and 5V doesn't work for me either. :(

I get the pop-up but I can dismiss it. I have the 5v cable and an older version of firmware .36 I think.

having the same trouble ... this sucks. ]

I hope iSimple comes out with a firmware upgrade.

Its definitly an issue with OS4, beacuse my 3GS is still on jailbroken 3.12... and it works... I'm using the new iPHone4 and I get the constant not supported 'dismiss' error as well.

97AcuraCL 07-02-2010 12:09 PM

Okay after actually reading the thread I understand it now.

A local shop actually has a few of the chips needed in stock. So I'll be going to pick one up today or monday and I'll report back and let you guys know how it worked out...

teslafied 07-04-2010 11:40 PM

I'm also in the Ft. Lauderdale area. Which local shop has these in stock? I need to pick one up as well.

Thanks, in advance.

audiophile42 07-07-2010 08:54 PM

I picked up the PXAMG-iC from Abt in Chicago yesterday for 25 bucks, and everything is working great again.

Audio Logic in Hollywood... Ask for mike :)

google the address/phone number... $20... they had 8 in stock. I bought one.

bluenoise 07-08-2010 01:02 PM

I installed the board and it works better than before. It doesn't warn me to use Airplane Mode anymore. I spent a whole ten minutes installing it.

CocheseUGA 07-08-2010 02:45 PM

iPhone 4 and 5v cable works fine here.

I have no idea what the firmware is on the PXAMG, but it's over a year old. I didn't bother upgrading when there were issues last year.

97AcuraCL 07-08-2010 02:45 PM

yeap sucks its another 20 bones for something that just just work... but hey its a solution... and does the job.

I just got my Iphone 4 yesterday and I get the error and I also got it with my 3GS on iOS 4.0 but not on 3.1.3. I think my iSimple frmware is either .36 or .38 (I can't remember) and I have the 5V cable. It must have to do with the iSimple firmware because it seems that the older firmwares don't give the error.

97AcuraCL 07-13-2010 11:34 AM

Read the thread brosef... you will need the new new chip if you're gonna use OS4

That would be no. Or at least, not a universal no.

eluzion 07-13-2010 11:01 PM

iSimple,

Does this Apple Authentication IC Jumper require any soldering or does it just plug in somewhere on the inside of the Gateway?

Also, who would I contact about getting a new cable? I emailed someone a while back asking about it and they told me to email them a copy of my original iSimple receipt to get a free cable upgrade. I still have the old cable that requires a passPORT adapter to charge my iPhone.

Thanks!

Maximus FSU 07-16-2010 02:53 PM

Hey Guys,

I have an 06 TL w/ Nav. I'm going to get the IC, but when I originally had my PXAMG installed the knucklehead installed it somewhere behind the dash. He did it on the cheap so I stupidly didn't complain. Anyway, I just got the iPhone 4 so I need to get back there to install the IC.

Can anyone direct me to a good tutorial/instructions w/ some pics for removing the Navi? I did some searching but couldn't find much. Thanks!

iSimple 07-16-2010 03:18 PM

The iC jumper does not require any soldering. A simple unplug and plug back in.

As for the cable, we offer the cable on our website. Go to Mobile, Parts & Upgrades, ISDPC11 is the cable you will need.

Just curious, what will we have to do when Apple releases another OS upgrade that renders this $30 chip obsolete?

When I bought your adapter, I was told that all I would have to do is update firmware in the event of any issues caused by OS updates to the iPhone.

Obviously, that is untrue and now I am looking at shelling out another $30 for the chip and about $100 for installation on top of the hundreds of dollars I already dropped to buy and install your adapter.

Just an FYI to all of the AcuraZine readers, USASPEC's product does not have any issues with iOS4. I am thinking it would be worth it just to replace the iSimple at this point.
