Steering Wheel vibrates when braking at high speed
Hi
My steering wheel vibrates hard in my CL when i press the brake at high speed. I changed the back rotors and pads since I thought the problem comes from them since they were in a bad shape, but still it didnt solve the problem :whyme: Any help will appreciate it. Thanks |
Usually the front rotors/pads when you feel it in the steering wheel.

warped rotors. i recently had the exact same problem i bought new drilled/slotted rotors and i havent had the problem since.

i just installed new rotors in front and it seems like it got worst.
any opinions or common problems? one of my friends/mechanic said it can also be my back rotors, my steering wheel still shakes pretty hard and i just cant figure out what it can be. |

Change the pads and rotors at the same time. Id suspect the rotors first if your braking and your steering wheels shakes. I will be upgrading to slotted/drilled rotors at my next brake pad change. Make sure you do a proper bed-in, it makes a world of difference.

no i didnt change the pads because they're in very good condition.
i'll change them tomorrow. the only problem is that if the vibrations stay, i wont be able to return the brake pads. |
My vibrations in the steering wheel were resolved with new rotors and pads.

you generally want to change them both at the same time because if your rotors are warped then the pads you are using will not wear properly. so if you changed the rotors and used the uneven pads then it will warped the rotors again. i would change to new pads and resurface the rotors and then put them on at the same time.

I've heard of a pad slap with no rotors, this is the first rotor slap brake job I've ever heard of.

i had this problem too. i bought rotora slotted rotors and new pads at once, the problem lessened a lot, but it was still there and i was pissed.
it wasn't until i put on my new rims that i found that one of my front rims was bent on the inside by the axle where i could have never saw it. turned out it was combo of bad brakes and a bent rim...now its perfect. |
oh yeah. one thing i forgot to list.
on my old driver side rotor, there was a small piece of metal something in a shape of a horse shoe, but a little thicker than a paperclip. and only about 3-4 inches long. its was inserted or got stock in b/w the walls of the rotor. could not figure out what the hell it was. any body knows? |
I had this exact problem (steering wheel vibrating when braking) and Acura rebuilt my front end trying to solve it. In the end, it was a frozen caliper.

Usually, its the rotors. Simply replace them.. I am sure it'll definitely help... I did the same for mine and the problem got fixed. But, if u dont get it done from a skilled person,,it might worsen....

I believe some rotors are actually balenced from the company. Thats possibly what you are talking about. I could be completely wrong about that. |
Possibly worn tierods too. Check those but most likely the rotors and pads.
