Check Engine Oil Level
The "check engine oil level" message flashed on my MID yesterday. I was close to home, so I checked my oil, and it was at the low end of the dipstick. I added oil and everything seems to be ok.
Has anyone had this happen? My car is only 10 months old, just had it in for second service in November, seems very odd that it would be either consuming oil or leaking. There is no evidence of leaking oil in my driveway or in my spot at work. I switched to Mobil 1 at the second service in Nov, not sure if that could have caused this? |
Thats not good. Its very possible the rings did the seat during breakin. I would have this checked by the dealer and get this on record.

It's normal to add some oil between changes. It even says so in the manual...
|
I agree that is normal to add oil between changes, but it seems very unlikely that the engine should consume so much oil to trigger the oil level warning to turn on. I assume that the oil level warning is controlled by the oil pressure.
I plan on having the dealership look at this after the holiday, just to be safe. Wasn't sure if this happend to anyone else |
is your exhaust blowing any smoke? that does sound odd
|
Did you check the level after the Nov oil change? Maybe they didn't fill it completely.
Just because the car is new doesn't mean that you can just drive it. A new engine require constant attention until you can characterize its performance so oil and coolant levels should be at each gas station stop. |
Dealer reports that the oil drain plug had some problem with the threads and was leaking very slightly. They put in a new drain plug.
They are the only ones who've changed the oil on this car, and I suspect they stripped the threads or something similar. Might be time for a new dealership or just go back to doing my own oil changes. |
