How the heck do you remove stuck spark plug boots (rubber seals)?
I am having a heck of a time removing the black rubber spark plug boots (seals). There seems to be a steel ring inside the rubber part of the boot that I cannot get out of the valve cover to replace them. How do you get them out?

Once you get the allen key bolt off, you should be able to pull the coil off exposing the spark plug.

I answered my own question. I'll post pics in a second. Pic 1: The old, nasty, stinkin' spark plug seals (rubber boots). I tried pliers to yank them out, but they were stuck in there pretty good. http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...y/DSC07402.jpg Pic 2: Closeup of the nastiness. http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...y/DSC07403.jpg Pic 3: What I finally used to get the seals off. I used a small flathead screwdriver and inserted it between the aluminum valve cover and the rubber boot. I then gently tapped the screwdriver until I felt resistance. I then wiggled the screwdriver around a little. I did this about 10 places all around each seal to break the seal from the aluminum. http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...y/DSC07404.jpg Pic 4: Closeup of where I inserted the screwdriver. http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...y/DSC07405.jpg Pic 5: Another picture of the screwdriver in between the rubber seal and the valve cover. I gently tapped the top of the screwdriver with a rubber mallet to break the seal. http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...y/DSC07406.jpg Yes, this was for a 2003 Civic, but it could benefit other TL drivers also. |
