Top mechanical problems that plague the TL
What are the top (more common) mechanical problems that the 2005 TL encounters?
|
Almost everything. But the transmission is most common.

That isn't the case with the TL as TLlGTX says, the most common problem: 1. Rattles 2. Hands Free Link unit 3. Automatic transmission, a few members have experienced failure, but honda covered it for them even though they were at very high miles. I have an 04 TL with the OLD transmission design and it works rock solid, with nearly 60K on it. 4. Leather wear, the Leather on the TL wears a bit fast, conditioning it and cleaning it regularly helps a lot. |

To the OP: I don't have an 05, but an 06, and have not had any issues whatsoever with my car, except a battery that was dying and yeah, that was about it besides the power steering recall. And I am at 62,500 Miles on my 06 Automatic |
yeah I had my battery die at 10,000 miles, my leather is bad but I had it reconditioned by a detailer....

rattling noise annoys me the most
HFL doesn't show caller ID names for me too |

Same here
Ditto on the rattles and lack of caller ID on HFL. I guess i'm used to the rattles, having owned 3 Acura's prior to my 05 TL, all of which also had some form of rattle and leather wear.

Plagued? NOT!
The TL isn't "Plagued" with anything. Yea there are a few rattles here and there, and the leather/vinyl wears a bit fast. But I'll take those problems any day over mechanical failure, which is NOT common on the TL.

^ +1.
Sitting pretty at 81,000 miles. Sometimes my transmission gives me signs of concern .. other than that .. good shit! |
In not particular order:
Mostly the "bitch" you will hear are people saying "I paid $x for a luxury car and it shouldn't have any problems". They then go on and compare it with cars costing >10K more which is simply ridiculous. In 05, the 3GTL was an exceptional value but be clear it was a very entry-level luxury car, if even really a luxury car. |

I have an 05 TL 6-speed that just hit 96,500 miles yesterday. I bought it with 30k in August of last year......all highway miles and no issues to report. It has had it's rattles in the windows and steering wheel but overal, it's a great car and I would buy one in a second. Driving this car 1000 miles in 5 days, it's a quiet, fuel sipping car. I get 30 mpg all day at 75 mph. Not many other cars in this class can do that. |
dashboard greying
Hey adobeman, what is 303 protectant?, I did notice my dash is on the grey and faded side. I'm staying away from armor all. The car is 2 weeks old and I just noticed that. Thanks

6 MT with 26,000+ miles. Power steering hose recall & 3rd gear replacement.
Both fixes under warranty & no other problems other then a dead tail light at delivery which was replaced. |

I bought my '06 TL at the end of July with 85k on the odometer.
HFL does not work. $600 to replace by dealer. You can buy the module (actually it's the upper map light assembly w/out the map light module for about $400). I'm waiting to find someone with a wrecked TL. Transmission did have funny shift between about 28 and 32 MPH. However that disappeared after I had the transmission flush performed as recommended by Acura (about $200). I love my TL! Steve |
Well i don't have any problems with my TL. Not even 1 rattle. I guess i got a good built one. But i hate u tell u this guys, but everyone posted almost everything that is in the car. Thier are more stuff wrong with the car then, more stuff working right with the car? But i mean the transmission, is the most expensive fix. The other things i guess u can live with.

I've changed out the battery and most recently found out that the rack and pinion is a common problem....
my rattles mostly come from hard bass my subwoofers are pounding out.. can't seem to get clear loud bass on this car!... and HFL.... i hardly use.... i looked at my steering wheel the other day and completely forgot i had that feature power steering hose and windshield wiper motor are recalls.... |
Ya, the main issue is the sub, it rattles to much. Gladly thier is a fix. Atleast 300$ though. A new sub, and amp.
|
So far it's been rattles and some window regulator problems, nothing major. :wish:

I've not had my TL that long but I realize something yesterday , these cars are dangeruos I mean i was cruising through ATL on I 85 and was doing 85 mph without realizing it . LOL I love my TL but I enjoy any car that I can drive like I want to and still get good gas mileage .
|
Don't have much a rattle issue with mine. However I had a Altima 3.5SE with the Nismo Suspension... After about 15,000 miles the car rattled like a mofo. The ride was extremely stiff.

I was a BMW mastertech until 11/2 years ago, trust me the Acura doesn't come near the mechanical and electrical problems most luxury cars experience (with the exception of Lexus - blandy Mcblanderson except for the IS styling) that usually cost 10-15K more.
