How can i increase my mpg?

Hello all.. I own an '01 TL and this thing is giving me around 110miles at half tank.. I have no mods to the engine at all. I replaced my spark plugs, new tranny, and seafoam.. I do have to replace my timing belt as the other one is bad.. What can i do to improve my mpg?

I drive city most of the time. And I do NOT floor the car at all. I get around 11-17 miles.. And at 17 miles, thats mainly highway.

gold2003tl (90) 03-22-2009 11:33 AM

did you do the 100k service?

Aman 03-22-2009 11:37 AM

make sure tire pressure is up to spec, maybe even go a few psi over, get rid of any unnecessary weight in the car, coast whenever possible, and accelerate slowly and smoothly.

city mileage in the TL isnt the greatest for most. There is NO miracle way to improve mileage.

is your avatar photoshopped...?

rockstar143 03-23-2009 01:23 PM

I have tried changing this and that for MPG...but what made me get better was actually changing how I drive. I have a leadfoot and even when I THINK I'm being good, I'm not. I recently started scrutinizing the MPG displayed while driving and I've managed to increase by about 3mpg that way. It made me more honest with myself about my driving habits.

That being said...don't pay attention to the needle...In my RSX...I could swear to the MILE where the needle would be...(on fillup would take 37 miles for the needle to move, etc) In the TL it seems different EVERY TIME! Driving chill this time though, I have been able to hit about 160 miles at the halfway mark. Probably a 300 mile tank, I'm hoping.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Treads about 5,000 miles. And yea they alligned.. Free alignments at Discount Tires(45$ one time fee for unlimited allignments for that set of tires only)..

Flipster23 03-23-2009 09:07 PM

Speaking of that i need to get aligned I have that same thing you got. Just do some of the stuff Phee was saying

totaledTL 03-23-2009 10:20 PM

Anybody on here use a Scangauge or similar?

niju321 03-26-2009 02:38 PM

80 miles at halfway mark :run:

stupid stop and go traffic

but normally, i get about 18-20 mpg city which isn't bad for this car i suppose. i try to keep the revs below 2500 (before u call me a grandma i keep up with traffic just fine, thank you). and i do a lot of coasting.

Rockstar21 03-26-2009 05:55 PM

i went from 310 on a tank to 423 in two different weeks because i changed driving habits.. im at 415 at the moment with 1 notch left...

driving habits do a world of difference.. and im not a lead foot either, just accelerated slower and drove 70 rather than 80-85 on the highways...

100+ miles...

rockstar143 03-26-2009 06:03 PM

That's what I'm talking about...reality of how "good" I'm being gets trapped somewhere between my brain perception and my right foot.
