How to Renew Your XM Radio for $77 a year.

I thought I would come over here and share some inside info on getting your XM subscription at a decent price.

For all the boring details, CLICK HERE

When you are about to expire, you will get a letter from XM telling you they are going to automatically renew you for (big bucks). Call them at the number in the letter, stop the renewal, and tell them you won't pay that much. That may end the conversation and it might not.

People whose subscription expires receive a flyer in the mail to win the former customers back to XM. They may offer you this $77 annual renewal or not. If they don't, just say no and hangup.

Then, after your subscription expires, call this phone number NOT THE ONE IN YOUR LETTER: 1-800-682-4114

"I am a former customer. My subscription expired. I received a promotional mailing for a $77 renewal and I would like to take advantage of it."

If they ask, the promotional code is "zwinback". If they ask for another code, they are asking for your radio code (also printed on the non-existent flyer which identifies YOUR radio so they can turn it back on). However, recently most members have not needed or used the "zwinback" code. It may be dated so only try it if pressed.

Just speak with confidence and don't deviate from "the script". And DON'T say that you got it off an Acura website- that it is being passed around. That will bring our little gift to a screeching halt.

Good luck. As you can read on the TL thread(s), we are batting 1000 for the people who stick to the instructions and about 80% for the ones who either can't read or can't comprehend and decided to wing it. LOL

FYI: RL Owners, this MAY or MAY NOT work because you have Navtraffic and this deal was originally for GM cars.

Xpditor 01-02-2006 04:57 PM

Oh, yeah. Forgot about the traffic thingee.

I posted the info here because RL guys have been asking on the TL forum thread.

Let us know how you make out if you try it with the RL/traffic.

Xpditor 01-05-2006 04:36 PM

One of the TLers has scanned and posted a fresh flyer from XM radio for the $77 deal. It is definitely for the Acuras and says that it expires on January 31, 2006.

Several members have called in and gotten the deal without hesitation.

Have a look through the link in the first post.

Here is direct link for XM flyer for those lazy ones: https://acurazine.com/forums/showpos...5&postcount=66

I'm really interested how well would it work for RL owners and what would happen with NavTraffic subscription in that case.

$77 XM Renewal With NavTraffic Addition

I received the $77 renewal for my RL on January 20th. The Acura-paid 1 year had expired, and I called up with the information from the flyer in the forum.

At first they couldn't find my radio serial number, but after explaining that Honda/Acura would have paid, and that it was a factory installed radio, they processed for the $77 deal.

I asked about adding NavTraffic, which the agent did add to the account, but then the phone disconnected. I called back and found that the first agent added it at $9.99 per month. The second agent said that was the standalone price, and that it should have been only $3.99 per month additional as part of the XM radio/NavTraffic package.

So, $124.88 for a whole year for both!

Eaglewatch - You mentioned they couldn't find your radio ID because it was listed under Honda, but if that's the case then why did it expire? And did it expire exactly one yr from when you purchased your car? Did you get your AcuraLink unit replaced as part of the TSB-022? If so, they replaced your XM radio on that date.

eaglewatch 02-17-2006 12:44 PM

Ahhhhhh, new unit, new serial number...duh!. Anyway, the car was originally delivered 11/29/2004, but I'm the second owner and didn't get it until 1/15/2006. I can't say exactly when the original subscription expired, but obviously the new serial number wasn't properly registered with XM. No big deal since XM still gave me the discounted renewal rate after my explanation.

acurafox 04-04-2006 04:08 PM

Has anyone tried to get this discount following the 1/31 expiration date? I will need to renew my radio and nav traffic service in early June, so I am interested as to whether or not this discount has been extended. TIA.

jhr3uva90 04-06-2006 11:13 AM

Worked for me!

I tried it today and I got the discounted price. Came out to be about $125. Thanks to all of you for posting this information!

I hope that included the real-time traffic. Otherwise, it should have been $77.

jhr3uva90 04-06-2006 01:20 PM

Yes, that includes the Real-Time Traffic. It was $77 without it.

liveperilous 04-12-2006 09:39 AM

Just got my XM for $77 and Real Traffic for $3.99 a month. They didn't even ask about the coupon. I just called up and the first thing I said was "So I want to take advantage of the $77 deal you have written on the flyer".

Thanks all for the great repost.

Got in my car after work tonight and my XM was out.............then I figured out it expired. Called the 800 number driving home as I remembered we got a deal when renewing our 05 Odyssey last fall. I told the person on the phone I wanted the $79 deal on the promotion they mailed out. She said no problem and renewed me in a matter of minutes............I had to get on Acurazine tonight and check out the threads............now I see that the deal was $77..........she didn't even question my misstatement. Guess I was lucky.

Thank you acurazine.
The subscription on my new MDX expired in March- I kept to the script, and it worked like a charm.

AllenRL 05-30-2006 07:59 PM

Still works! Called in today and got the deal with no problem. Thanks.

gizmowizard 05-31-2006 08:30 AM

Yup, the $77 deal still works! Renewed my XM subscription this morning without any problems.

$124.XX today! It still works!! Thank you!

FullTilt 07-10-2006 05:15 PM

I got mine today!!! $77 still works!!! thats awesome!

bearcat2000 07-10-2006 10:42 PM

I can better all of you! I got my 05 with 10k miles this past January. I thought I would try to get the $77 XM deal since my car was over a year old by the time I bought it, so I knew the XM had expired. So I call XM and give them the radio code, and they say its not in their system....ta da! the first owner had never registered it! So I call my Acura dealer and say I have a year of XM coming to my car and in a matter of 5 minutes I have it. I have about a 5 minute commute to work but even though I only drive my car 5k miles a year I am really liking the XM. One very happy dude here. :)

Proud_RLowner 07-11-2006 01:46 PM

This is AMAZING!!!! I can't wait till i get home and try this out. Now the radio code is the code # that's on a small section of paper when you first purchase the car and they point it out to you in regards to any trouble shooting that you may need, etc... Correct?

The radio code is an eight digit code with numbers and letters mixed. It looks something like this:

4Y6D70WB (Not a valid code- just an example)

U find it by tuning to XM Channel 0. The code will come up on your audio display. Give this code to the CSR when he/she asks for it.

Proud_RLowner 07-12-2006 08:48 AM

Ok... so where would i find this code? Also what are they methods of payment when i actually do call? Could i put it on my credit card or would i get a monthly bill w/ my statement or how does it work?

Xpditor 07-12-2006 02:29 PM

As AllStar said, above, it's on channel 0 on the radio.

Yes, they will take your credit card. If you want real-time traffic, that's an additional charge. Ask them if they have a deal on that.

Proud_RLowner 07-13-2006 08:30 AM

Good deal. When i was reading the post about the Real Time Traffic and everything, i always thought that was added automatically. I didn't know you had to subscribe to that also!!! I went up to DC for the 4th and i was actually hoping i could see how it worked... now i know why it didn't! :-)

Thanks for your help!

dwboston 07-21-2006 07:15 PM

Still works - we were able to renew the XM for $77 in my wife's 2006 MDX yesterday. Hopefully it still works when the trial runs out in my RL in September.

RLer 07-28-2006 07:45 PM

Guys this is really helpful, my trial run should end in a couple of weeks and i will update you. The NAVtraffic really works wonders. However, the result is that i hardly take freeways during traffic hours in the SF Bay area. :-) On the other hand, it was great fun to explore detour after detour which i never thought possible before.

acurafox 07-31-2006 10:08 PM

Has anyone tried to get this deal for a non-auto based XM Radio (ie, HT receiver)? It's not clear XM can tell which radio codes are actually assigned to cars. Maybe part of the code identifies whether or not the radio is in a car...

KHC 08-07-2006 07:11 PM

I just tried to take advantage of this promotion for my RL (which is up on 8/22). I eventually hung up because each time I mentioned this promotion, they put me on hold and switched me to another person. It went from plain ole customer service to promotions then finally to (I belief), att security. He then put me on hold stating he had to call the manager. Was this the experience with everyone else? I did use 800-682-4114. I will try again, if this was the case with all of you successful bargain hunters out there.

thanks,

kurtis

sampan2 08-13-2006 07:51 AM

My subscription does not exppire for 3 weeks and I just caled and and renewed for $125.00 for the year (XM Radio + Nav Traffic). All I said was I received in the mail this week a renewal subscription for $77, and that's all it took. The lady also mentioned that my renewal will start after my original 1 yr free trial is over.

Good Luck...

XM Radio Renew

Today, 8/30/06, I renewed my XM radio with the $77 promotion, no questions asked. Also, renewed my navtraffic for the $3.99/mo., total $124.88. The posting works like a charm. I just said I wanted to renew my account with the $77 promotion and I was done, then added the navtraffic. Wasn't even asked for the promotion code. Took all of one minute. Thank you acuralink.

RLer 09-06-2006 12:06 PM

When does the 1 year trial expire?

I got my RL last year in July, the XM radio and NavTraffic is still on. I have got my post card for the XM renew for 77/year long time back. So when did your xm expire?

Mike_TX 09-25-2006 04:00 PM

We just got the famous $77 offer for my wife's XM today. She had earlier told them not to renew it.

The flyer/postcard thingy has no "offer code" on it (that I can find, anyway) - just the radio ID number printed above her name in the address block.

Based on that, I'd say all you need to get your $77 subscription is to call the number and have your radio ID code ready (after letting it expire, of course).
.
.

dwboston 09-25-2006 07:27 PM

I was able to renew today for the $77 rate (+ $48 for NavTraffic). No code required.

petemc 10-01-2006 12:21 AM

I too can confirm the new renewal for $77 does not require any special code, my wife's came in the mail today. It looks like XM has finally got smart and realized that many of us will not renew at the high rate.

So, if you want the $77 rate, you could simply let your account expire, and wait for a card to come your way. I am not sure how they would respond if you try to renew without letting your account expire.

The card is titled "12 months of XM radio - only $77 A 50% savings!"
Also on the card it states " Sign up Today & Save 50% on a One-Year Subscription. And we'll waive the $14.99 reactivation fee!"
It also says on the card "Redeem this offer using the unique Radio ID printed on this card."

Good luck to all, and I bet that XM are happy to get the $77!

Pete
