Oil/Filter Change - Acura 3.2 TL 2001.
 

I'm a newbie here.

I usually take my Acura (2001 3.2 TL) to the dealer for oil/filter change every time
since I bought it. After all these years.. finally I wanted to get my hands dirty by
changing the oil/filter myself. I'm looking for some help to jumpstart my first venture.

Are there any how to do sites, links, manuals, tips, tricks ?

Changing oil instructions
 

1.Turn your tires to the right. It will make it easire to get to the oil filter.
2. Jack the car up. You can lift the entire front or just the passenger side. Make sure the engine is cool or warm to touch. then remove the oil cap on top of the engine. Put safety stands up, you'll need to get under to remove the oil bolt.
3.Remove oil bolt. Righty tighty, lefty loosey. Do not force it too much. Make sure you are turning it in the right direction or you'll strip the bolt.
4. Drain the oil into a catch pan. Done?
5. Remove oil filter. Put new one on. Make sure you put some oil on the threads and the rubber gasket before you do so. Filter needs only to be handtighten
6.Put the oil bolt back. Again, don't turn it too tight. Oh yeah replace the washer.
7. Put new oil back from the top. Check owners maual for specs/weight/amount.
Screw the cap back on.
8.Put car back. turn on engine and look underneath to see if there are any leaks.

oil bolt is 17mm, and the car requires 4.7 qts of oil. just add 5

since its your first time you're in for a nice oil spill all over you and the floor so make sure you have a few paper towels and newspaper at industrial ammounts for the job.

DO NOT DISPOSE OF OIL IN TRASH, SINC, GRASS or anything that comes to mind...you must take auto discount, oil changing place (might charge...if so just dump it in their driveway overnight) or most other auto parts store.

i've dont lots of oil changes in many cars and even so, i still spill some oil = unavoidable

Thanks folks.. I think I'm all set for this weekend project.

I managed to talk to a local auto shop here. They said
they can take the old for no charge. (I got some work
done from them earlier).

I just changed mine with Mobil 1 Synthetic and filter. The washer had to be pried off with a screwdriver, does that signify they never changed it and it expanded under the heat over time or do you think they just put the wrong one on? My guess is the earlier since it probably wouldn't have gone on if it was the wrong size? Just bought the car last month and going to change it myself from now on.

To avoid problems like stripping the drain bolt or a stuck oil filter, turn the filter and the drain bolt 3/4 of a turn past the point where it contacts.

Heh...true dat. Kitty litter.

A large bag of grease sweep is available at parts stores for 5 dollars. Much cheaper than kitty litter and its larger size particles work better for our needs.
I know, I clean up oil spills from the track at car races all the time!

Man, I was just trying to talk myself into trying this out to save a little money.

Is this the same amount for a 2003 TL?

does it matter if the citty litter has some poops in it, i might just do this next oil change. does the washer have to be a certin kind?

The grease sweep subsitute is for emergencies anyway- use what you must to prevent oil all over the ground
