Cruise Control not working

i hit the buttow by the door LED turns green but when i try to SET the speed it doesnt work... any ideas?

pwilson 06-12-2010 10:35 AM

my 03 CL-S (6-speed) cruise just stopped working last week.
Both the ON/OFF switch beside the power roof switch and the green CRUISE in the speedometer gauge come on but system will not hold speed.

Dealer says there is a broken linkage going into the throttle body and complete throttle body needs to be replaced ( $700 Canadian). Not sure what I am going to do. Wish I could find an easier fix because I'm thinking about selling or trading this car in...

If anyone is interested it's a black on black all stock with rear wing and I'm the original owner; has 143000 Km ( about 85,000 miles) and just put new Hankook tires on it. Always dealer serviced.

x2 for both of you. If the light doesnt come on its electrical. If it does, its mechanical.

pwilson 06-14-2010 12:33 PM

My CRUISE light does come on, but once I let my foot off the accelerator pedal the car will NOT hold speed.
Acura dealer says it's a broken linkage going into the throttle body and as I posted I'm told the entire throttle body needs to be replaced.

Rajca 06-14-2010 03:48 PM

If the linkage

Rajca 06-14-2010 03:50 PM

If ur linkage is broken, u don't need a new tb. The linkage disconnects from the tb. U just need a new linkage which should be cheap

Thanks for your help.
I'm going to pursue this and I'll let you know the results.

i had the same problem with mine all electrical would work but it doesn't hold speed. So i took off the engine cover and low and behold the throttle body part that connects to the cable is broken. It's made out of plastic so they break easily. I put the cable back on the throttle body and its stayed ever since. you might want to take a look at that before ordering the cable.

civicdrivr 06-15-2010 06:51 PM

If its the throttle body pulley itself that broke, the TB lists for $421 but you can get it for $316 USD. Once I get my new intake on though, Ill have my OE ported throttle body for sale if you need it.

im new two this site, and i also just bought a 2001 cl-s a few weeks ago. the only problem with the car was the cruse, it lights up on the dash and when you press SET the green CRUISE CONTROL light lights up but the car didnt hold speed. i trouble shooted the problem and it turned out to be the the plastic piece in the throttle body that the cruise control cable mounts into had a piece broke off. I solved this problem by drilling a small hole in the broken plastic piece and feeding small wire through the hole and around the throttle cable for the cruise control to hold the cruise control cable into place. it now works perfect. note: before you can do all this you must remove the plastic engine cover.

They don't sell just the linkage... just the whole throttle body... I'll have to check some local junkyards.

I've noticed that mine goes on and off too. Somehow I found out that if you tap the clutch a time or two it will start working again. Mine has been like that since I bought it 6 years ago. I've meant to get it looked at but always forgot since I dont use it all that much.

Gobnugget 09-22-2010 04:42 PM

Thanks for the info in this thread guys. 03 Type-S CL and my CC is also not working. I can't even get the light to turn on so I'm going to pursue some of the options here and see what the problem is.

I was able to repair the CC throttle body pulley with Hysol/Loctite 83104 Epoxy Patch Hi-Temp. Easy to find, just google the name. It seems to be popular with aircraft mechanics, so that might be another way to find it.

This is a very high durability product that when applied to a clean surface seems to last forever. I am sure you will find lots of other uses for this glue around your house, so the $15 investment will probably help out with many other projects.

It is super easy to do this repair once you take the plastic intake garnish off. Be sure to let the epoxy "set" at least 12 hours before driving!

I did a "temporary" repair many years ago to a radiator with this product and it is still holding today.

I had this problem, however im not good with cars, so its hard to describe, but there was a wire going from a small box on the left side of the engine, i followed the wire and there was a circular thing with a notch in it and the wire was hanging off it with the weight not correctly in place, i put the wire back in line with the notch and tightened the wire so it wouldnt come off again, and then it worked fine.
