Nav reads "Check your disk"

Help!

I bought a used 2005 Acura TL and I cant get it to load my Nav disk! I dont know what version of disk they were on but the used car dealer ordered up a cd...

he ordered : Ver. 3.30F Orange

Is there anyway to check and see what version it is currently loaded to? I am unable to get the check disk error off my screen.

I suspect he may have ordered an outdated cd and from what I am told once you update nav cds you cant go back to previous ones. I am REALLY hoping its just the cd causing this and not a 500 dollar nav player.

When I power up my car it trys to download the updates but then it fails and tells me to check disk. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PS. I saw the thread about hacking the nav system...what are the actual benefits of hacking it? Just to change your background wallpaper? Thats cool in a way but it sure does seem like a lot of work for such little reward. Anyway, thanks for the help fellas.

PSS! Is the clock on the dash somehow controlled through the nav? I cant figure out how to edit my clock settings...

haha i sound like a total noob.

Yea thanks for the help buddy...

I guess im going to:

1. Pay for the 3.90 cd which releases in the next couple of days...
2. Find a 3.40A cd used
3. Find a 3.80 cd used (hopefully I can find one soon since alot of people will run out and buy the newest cd available!)

But anyway...I am definitely in the market for one....I tried to make a post in the black market section but cant becuase of the new member requirements..... =| As soon as my requirements are fulfilled...I will be posting the WTB ad for the cd....

If you guys have any other helpful information please email me @ lctv10@gmail.com becuase i dont even think I can recieve private messages yet.

Ok, so I bought version 3.50 from another az member and put it in and im still unable to download information from my nav disk....

is it likely that my dvd nav rom is bad? Is there anyway to reset or zero out the information on the system? The only other option I have is going with 3.8 disk to ensure that Im not trying to use a disk lower than what the previous owner had used.

Have you tried cleaning the disc? Also, do you have an Acura or Honda disc?

Or try this:

1. Go to your navigation then press and hold "GUIDE" "MENU" and "CANCEL" for approx 5 seconds to bring up the diagnostic menu.
2. wait another 5 seconds to let it load up completely. Press "version" button on the screen.
3. press "LOAD DISC". Wait until it's completely done.

This should solve the problem, if not disconnect the battery for 30 mins. BUT make sure you have the NAVI CODE and RADIO CODE.

Thomasv 10-20-2009 02:38 PM

hmmm well my radio was locked when i bought the car and i had to call acura stealership for the code for radio...i didnt know the nav had one too....i got the Orange 3.50 acura cd.

Ive tried to hold those buttons down and nothing comes up. No diagnostic menu just the same "check disk " on screen.

I've tried with a 3.30F disk and a version 3.50 disk...the 3.50 looks almost perfectly clean, no scratches at all.

Thomasv 10-21-2009 09:36 AM

yea i still cant get to my diagnostics screen =[

Thomasv 10-21-2009 10:06 AM

if there is anyone here who lives in oklahoma that I could meet up with I'd love to borrow your disk for a few seconds to see if my navi can load it...hit me up if you are in the area.

Thomasv 10-23-2009 04:54 PM

k, disconnected my battery for 30 minutes and reconnected...entered radio code....nav still wont read my disk...sigh....this sucks...guess ima need to get 3.8 to end all possibilities with disk being out of date...

Thomasv 10-23-2009 04:54 PM

I still cannot access my diagnostics screen at all....any tricks?

bzyrice 10-23-2009 04:58 PM

Did you enter a navi code? when you disconnect the battery for 5 minutes and connect it back and then turn on the car, the navi will try to load, then a navi screen comes up asking for a code.. if you havent gotten that far with either disc, it must be your dvd rom. Alpine I think charges 150.00 to look at your dvd rom.. that SUCKS!! I would probably tell them dealership you bought it from that it still doesnt work..

csmeance 10-23-2009 08:27 PM

If an older disk was inserted, the error message would have been something along the lines of:

An older version of software has been detected, please check your disk.

It sounds like the navi dvd drive is bad. Take it back to the dealer and demand a fix. The DVD drive is nearly 3K brand new, however Alpine repairs them for 180 dollars including shipping.

Thomasv 10-24-2009 10:21 AM

holy...well i bought it the car from a used car lot in Texas...not an acura dealer...Yep, i also signed a "AS IS" paper so im screwed there...so...I guess than my next step is to have my unit repaired for 180 lol DOH!

It never once asked for navi code, nor did it load any diagnostics screen so Yea, i think it is in fact a bad rom =[

AcurAmadi7 12-06-2012 06:03 PM

any update to this???

THTL 12-06-2012 06:37 PM

Yes. Bad DVD Drive. Send to Alpine for repair for $358.00

AcurAmadi7 12-17-2012 07:51 AM

thanks

Or you can my write up on how to repair this yourself for free. I had the exact same issue as OP.

https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-audio-bluetooth-electronics-navigation-94/diy-how-fix-navi-disk-read-errors-873489/

Im surprised more people havent stumbled upon it. I thought it was a pretty common issue. The thread was quickly buried
