60,000 mile service
 

I bought a 2004 certified pre-owned TL about 6 months and 10,000 miles ago. The reminder came up on my TL that Oil life is low and I need B service. From what I understand B service is somewhere in the $150-$200 range. I called the service dept and the manager said I should come in for the 60,000 mile service which is $589. Has any else gone in for the 60,000 mile service? Does this price sound right?

What are they going to do to it? Sometimes there are "Dealer recomended services" rather than Manafacture Recomended Service Intervials. I had 1 dealer recomend that I change the Cabin air filter every 6 months or 10K. That is not what it states on the service manual! First Major service shouldn't be until 100K

Look in your owners manual. I think most of the 60K services are oil change, air filter and checking a bunch of things. Shoot, I can do that myself and I do. Save your money and do your own oil and filter changes. Plus you know it's done your way with your oil and filters.

^^ exactly. Paying several hundread dollars to visually inspect fluids and change filters? Cabin filter takes 10 minutes to replace and costs less than $20-. Same goes for the engine air filter.

b service is just an oil changel.. that sounds like bs to me 600dollars for a 60k mile tuneup or what? maybe you should just go have your car checked out for problems first then see what you need to pay for.

I took my TL to a dealer down here is SW Florida. They wanted around $500- at the 15,000 mile service. It was mostly visual inspections that they wanted the money for. I told them to just to change the oil ($60- something bucks). If something was wrong with the car, it would be covered under warrantee, and Acura would be paying the dealership directly. I am fanatical about washing my car and keeping the engine compartment clean so I know how everything stands under the hood. I would think that it would be in the dealerships best interest to perform these inspections anyway without needing to charge the customer. Charging someone $45- to inspect a $15- air filter and not change it at inspection is absolute stupidity IMHO.

If it is a certified pre-owned vehicle, are they not certifying that all maintenance on the vehicle has been performed and is up to date?

I think you should be doing a transmission fluid service soon, transmission fluid should be changed at before 60K miles correct?

Plugs aren't switched out at 60k either?

No, although some people change them quite a bit before the end of their expected 105k mile life.

I am afraid, by not following their recommendations, if we have a warranty repair, they will make it difficult....

but, if you still want to do it at the dealership, try other dealership and mosf of the time the price is negotiable...or they have coupons...

There is no 60K service- go by the MID
 

Don't bother-- there is no 60K mile service: the TL's MID displays the appropriate service period and type of service necessary, so you are being sold a bill of goods. Normally, the B2 service will pop up to show that air filters should be changed, while A3 or B3 will mean trans fluid change, A4 or B4 means plugs, etc. per the MID schedule in the manual and on the Acuralink website. The TL owner's and Navi manuals are linked through the 3G Garage at the front of this forum.

The only things off the MID schedule are changing brake fluid every 3 years and possibly changing out trans fluid @ 30K instead of waiting for code 3 to appear.

Thanks. I think that I'll just do the B service for now and if there's anything major I'll just have to get the work done.
I'm actually going through a whole issue right now trying to figure out if the appropriate service was done according to the Certified 150-point inspection.
One of the items on the checklist states, "The nearest scheduled maintenance must be performed if within 3 months or 2500 miles of service interval or if no record of service exits"
Acura doesn't have any service records for this car and I was never provided with the actual Certification checklist to show that the service was done. If the service wasn't done which I have a feeling it wasn't, they should be doing this service for me for free. I have to call the Pre-owned sales manager today so we'll see what happens.

I just went through all this with the purchace of an 06 TL from a dealer with 62,000km. I asked to have the oil, trans. oil, air filter, and pollen filters changed as part of the deal. The first rain that I went through I found the wiper blades were shot ( both torn on the edges) so I stopped in to the closest acura dealer and bought some refills. This made me think that they didn't do the ac-pov ( pre-owned acura vehicle inspection and refurbishing), so I took it to my honda machanic I trust for an inpection. Well, I was told that not only did they change all the things that I had requested, they also installed new front rotors and pads as well as they serviced the rear brakes ( rotors and pads still had lots of meat on them). I am extreamly happy with my puchase now and I have seen the high level of Acura dealership service first hand. Must admit I through my Viagra pills out after this experience!!

My dealer recommended me changing my fluid every 40k. I had a tranny shudder that started around 45k and slowly got worse. I took the car to the dealer to get it diagnosed and as it turned out the fluid was old but not burnt or dark. After a tranny fluid drain/fill the shudder went away and the tranny acts at it should. With that said I recommend tranny fluid intervals every 40k.

Yes its recommended at 60k then every 30k. However, you also have to factor your driving style and how well it has been taken care of.

From my knowledge, there is no major service due expect normal oil change, inspects and top off fluid level (which they do anywhere with oil change on the east coast), then the cabin & engine filter mentioned above which I have only changed once and I have 50k on my car
