A16 Service

Has anyone else had this service? Geez seems like every service its $200+. Does the RDX need this much servicing or am I being robbed by Radley's service department.

XIS 01-04-2008 08:16 AM

How many miles are you at? It says you need the oil changed, tires rotated and rear differential fluid changed. $200 seems high. I just had the oil / filter changed and tires rotated (B1) for $80...

Here is the list of service codes...

A Replace just the engine oil.

B Replace the engine oil and the oil filter, rotate
the tires, inspect the front and rear brakes,
check the parking brake adjustment, and
inspect several other items listed in the O/M.

1 Rotate the tires.

2 Replace the air cleaner element, check the
drive belt, and replace the dust and pollen
filter.

3 Replace the transmission fluid and transfer
fluid (if equipped).

4 Replace the spark plugs, replace the timing
belt (if equipped), inspect the water pump,
and inspect valve clearance.

5 Replace the engine coolant.

6 Replace the rear differential fluid

17xxx its well past two bills. closer to three. It's just crazy to be paying a small payment for service. Hurts the pocket after awhile.

mau108 01-04-2008 09:29 AM

do it your self, you can do it for less then 120. (even less if you have the hook ups for the fluids ;))

XIS 01-04-2008 09:41 AM

Find an independant shop that is certified instead of the dealer and I bet you can get it done for almost 1/2 the price.... or DIY

Animagix 01-04-2008 10:30 AM

200 for an oil change seems an awful lot. I'm sure they observe other areas too but, I would go independent most of the time, and occasionally back to acura for bigger jobs (ie. timing belt, etc)

Would you keep returning to a doctor who kicks you in the nuts and asks if it hurts?

Find an independant Honda specialist (usually a former dealer tech) and you'll get better care for lower cost. I know a great independant who credits customer bills for core returns such as water pumps.

Otherwise, DIY. The RDX is exceptionally easy to do routine services on, with no special tools.

I wouldn't feel comfortable with a shop using rebuilt water pumps on my cars, you should ask for new pumps.

If you have AAA you can find a shop through them that has agreed to service vehilces and warranty repairs to their standards.
Make sure the shop you take it to uses ASE certified technicians, and specify you only want certified techs working on your vehicle ( this will usually mean no speedy, jiffy, or other quick lube type places.)Make sure the shop is using Acura/Honda fluids for everything other than engine oil.

The installed components he uses are all new, unless you request a reman.

I am talking about the core credit he gets when sending a removed part back for reman. Most shops would keep this and never mention it. He credits the customer's bill for it.

A16

Yeah, I just had this service A16 done on my car. Close to $300 in santa Monica Acura. It is basicaly oil change and rear differntial oil change. I agree, it is too much indeed. But I dont have the tools, space, etc to do it myself.

A16

Mine was done 2 weeks ago (17500miles), cost was just over $200, a little steep but the bagels and coffee are free :toocool:

dio 01-22-2008 09:43 AM

I just had this service done 16,868 miles and it cost me 223.09. I
didnt get the tire rotation or balance but I agree cost is high and it does hurt the wallet.

Batman, I thought that talking with you on line you'd be a DIY'er! It is VERY easy to do the oil / filter change & Mobil 1 oil costs about $30-35. Look in the DIY section & see my post on it. There is alsop someone that shows the rear diff. change. Also very easy to do. You can rotate tires very easy if you have a good floor jack. jm:2cents:

duh, I guess you didn't get the joke, I could do on my own but would have to do on the street(no driveway) safety concern(very busy street), need to find a certified tech to do the work or a garage that will let me do it myself for a small fee.

What makes them believe you need a tranny flush? Do you have 70000 miles on it? My f150 w/120000 that tows my boat's never been flushed, just changed. Please do not pay for a flush. You make all consumers look like marks.

batman 01-31-2008 07:45 PM

Not only NO but HELL NO. I only let them do what the book says and nothing more. Tell them to pound sand and go to another dealer. If there isn't another one then whatever they do outside of what you said is at their cost. Don't let them rob you.

buckeye#1 02-01-2008 04:58 AM

I barely have 12,716 miles and I need the a16 service done.

MMike1981 11-25-2008 09:48 AM

....the first rear diff fluid change is @ 15k because its break in fluid, see ur manual.

after that, its every 30-50k avg based on ur driving etc.

nothing to be suprised about if u get the warning at 13k miles...thats right on target.

Cool, sounds good.

Khanyam3 12-04-2008 11:00 AM

I got quoted for $108.00 on the differential fluid change from cerritos acura. What do you guys think of the price? This going to be my first time servicing the rdx there.

MMike1981 12-05-2008 10:21 AM

Is that JUST rear diff? or rear diff & oil...the dealer is going to want to do both diff & oil thats what A16 is.

if just rear diff...seems OK, but id cal some other dealers obviously just to know where that price is among others in the area...
