Front wheel bearing in backwards
Took car to dealer for abs,vsa light and the dealer said my front wheel bearing was put in backwards. Is that possible and its not the oem bearing either. Car is a 05 TL 5AT with 60000 miles have had it for 2months. Any help or feedback would be great. Thanks

Have the lights been on since you've owned the car?
The bearing has a magnetic encoder and that side of the bearing must be installed towards the inside of the knuckle. If not, the system will not be able to read the revolutions on that wheel and will trip the lights. If it were installed backwards, the lights would have been set the first time the car was driven. Do you know what code the dealer saw when scanned? |
@Turbonut: I thought the only pickup for the ABS/VSA system was the speed sensor ring on the axle?

The lights came on about 2 weeks ago but had a new wheel bearing put in it today and that fixed the problem. No clue how long it was in there like that but its fixed now.

Brand: NSK, Mfr Part#: 1610874 Product Details This bearing is equipped with an internal ABS sensor magnet. Care must be taken during installation to insure that the sensor magnet is located on the correct side of the bearing housing. Failure to do so may cause a malfunction in the ABS system. |
^that's interesting...thanks for the clarification
Is it possible that the OP's bearing didn't even have the internal sensor magnet, since it wasn't the OEM bearing? |
