Half golf ball size of bump on my tire! help!?
 

I was on my to school today and didn't see this curve in the middle lane until last second, I tried to adviod the curve but was too late. It felt pretty hard and so loud that I knew something was wrong and found out that there half golf size of bump on my tire. Now, my question is, how bad is this? one of my friend told me that I need to replace my tire. Is this true? What should I do?

yes, you need to replace it. all of them at once.

How many miles are on the tires? If you have a lot, then yes, replace all four.

about 19k and they are still good! dont feel like spending extra cash on tires.

I really dont care about the tires as much as other stuff. I thought the oem tires were good enough for me :O

Have the tire store use a tread depth gauge to determine the current tread depth. New tread depth is 10/32" on the OEM tires. If you are less than about 7-8/32", there's no way I just replace one if I had any option.

Best "economy" bet is to replace two, pairing the new ones together on the front and rotate the others to the back. Keep the "good" used one as another spare...it can replace another failure for a while and then a failure of one of the new ones in about 15k...

Course, you could also change model/brand of tires a pair at a time, but not recommended.

As long as your tread wear is OK on the remaining tires, it is OK to just replace 1. Just make sure to adjust your tire rotation schedule to keep that in mind. Also, keep your new tire up front on the drive wheels.

I picked up a nail all the way through my sidewall (unpluggable) at about 17k and just changed the 1 that blew out.

It's better to replace all four with better tires than the OEM tires. You can end up paying like 200 per tire for the OEM Michelin MXM4's so, that's a total of 800, or you can end up paying like 500 for a pretty good set of tires (much better than OEM).

Taking that you live in Washington, everyone has their opinions, and tire preference. Should ask your locals on this board what they recommend for a good overall everyday tire.

honestly, thats the way to do it but I really dont see myself replacing all my tires because of that stupid little bump. btw, get on your msn now!!!

It happened on my driver side tire so I'm really trying to decide to replace all with something better or be a cheap ass by replacing one.

I would NOT replace just one tire. 19K is quite a few miles. You need to at least replace a pair.

You can buy the OEM's at Costco. 200 buck each. Sorry to say.

I purchased a used TSX with OEM's on the front and cheap crap tires on the back... I'm waiting for my tax return to come back so I can replace all four tires with Bridestone PolePosition's. They are $50 cheaper a piece and according to the reviews on Tire Rack are a much better tire.

I also live in WA. The asphalt roads around here are so loud with the OEM tires that it drives me nuts. I don't like the constant roar and I really hope the Bridgestone's do the trick.

happend to me but at 500 miles....stupid eh? anyway, my advice is to replace all four.. Those OEM tires are retardedly expensive and you can get 4 much better tires (avid a4's) for nearly the price of that one tire.

If you really want, maybe just get a slightly used OEM tire? and then just replace the whole set when the time comes? :dunno:

Should be able to find those OEM tires easily on forums, used tire places, or even ebay...

That way, you don't have to worry about a new tire with three old ones, or having to replace all when your remaining three is still good.

OR, you can replace all 4 and sell the remaining three for a little bit of money.

The purchase price of two new OEM tires will approach the cost of 4 Avon 550 tires. Just some food for thought...

I had the same problem. Replace asap because it could blow. You can just replace the one tire (as long as its the exact same tire).

I got 2 of the stock Michelins on Ebay about 2 months ago for 85 shipped. My tires came with a ton of tread left on them!

I think I just got lucky and found a really good deal. Looks like it's very hard to find the stock Michelins at that price.

If you can find a single OEM tire for a decent price go ahead and get it and use it until you're ready to buy a new set.

You may have to have the shop "shave" the tire to the same depth

That's your best bet if you can quickly find a used Michelin on the forums -- I sold my used tires when I replaced them with Avons, others surely are doing something similar. Before you spend $400+ on two Michelins, consider that there are several excellent tires available in the sub-$100 range and you could replace all four tires (which is preferable to two or certainly to one) and sell your three used Michelins for something. I got about $40 each for my used Michelins with 22k on them.

My dad made the same mistake on his RSX -- hit pothole, tire bubble, bought two Michelins, could have had four brand new Avons or Kumhos or Yokohamas for essentially the same price, slapped forehead.

I would def NOT replace all four at once. First off, the OEMs are like 180 a piece, so if you stick with them (which I wouldn't recommend either) your looking at a $1000 bill. I would replace 2 of them, and have them mounted on the front (driving) wheels. From now on, everytime you replace tires, your only buying two at once. This makes bugeting a lot easier.

I would eventually replace all 4 and move to a cheaper (and higher rated) tire. Check out www.tirerack.com for ratings. If you switch the brand and/or type of tires, you need to do all 4 at once.

Does your TSX have a full sized spare tire with the same rim? If so, then you just get one new tire to replace the damaged one, mount that on the front with your spare tire for the other side. And for your other remaining tire with 19k, use that as your spare. Remember to check for rotational direction if your tires are directional.

In the mean time you're on your spare right? Not a good idea to drive on that tire.

no! I had the same issue with my 240sx and droved around for year and finally poped so I dont think this is serious issue (I think??). I rather not use those tiny crappy ass spare. I feel more safe not using the spare tire.

From 2005 onwards, we got a full sized spare. Of course, my car has to be a 2004. :tomato:

Replace the damaged one with the spare then get a 2nd hand tyre(then it doesn't matter about having same brand/type) to replace the damaged one and use it as the spare. :2cents:

Ours in AUST come with full size spare from 05 onwards.Not sure about yours.
