Wiper problem?

Hi,

I just purchased my 08 RL Tuesday and love it! It has 26k miles on it. I drive 80 miles a day and will definitely appreciate the comfort and AWD features.
I traded my 07 Prius in for it (and got a high price due to the current gas prices).
I'll post some nice pics soon.
QUESTION: My wife noticed that the wipers don't look like fully retract, and after looking at pictures of RL's, I notice she's right. Do RLs have any history for this?
Thanks!

Rick

RL has a winter and everything else mode for wipers. Not really sure what "retract" means, but if I had to guess you're in winter mode where they are higher than usual.

All you have to do is lift and push back on them, they will retract.

Congrats on the new ride and getting rid of the boring Prius :)

This is winter mode for sure. Just push down and it'll get to normal mode, like 037 said.

by retract, I mean fully conceal themselves under the hood. Shouldn't they go down further than shown in the photo, when they are not in use?

Wow, that's a relief! and easy. Thanks a ton.

Rick

Just pushed a little on them and they disappeared : )

its winter mode... they dont go all the way down in "winter mode" so that if snow build up on the windshield there's less mass for the wiper motor to move by starting out at a higher angle (kind of like getting a head start). mostly to prevent your wipers from breaking.

Just in time for $5/gal gas! LOL! Either way, it's a great decision!

Well done indeed!
Why the drastic change in mode of transportation? Mostly safety. I need (yes need) AWD living where we live. I whited-knuckled the snowy country Wisconsin roads too often. Also, comfort! The Prius had the old man aching by the end of the work week. Seriously, the Prius had the worst seats ever (known for this by the prius community). Lastly, the RL is getting over 30mgp! That's 18mpg less that the smugmobile, but I can live with that for the benefits. Besides, due to the high gas prices, I got a ridiculously high price for the Prius.
Okay, can you tell that I'm feeling a little guilty?

how in the world are you getting 30mpg? I get like 19.

pelicanmedia 04-23-2011 12:49 PM

I probably should wait a week before making an "mpg" statement. I finally figured out the trip-meter half way home yesterday, reset it and got 30mpg my last 12 miles home.

I see you also have a Crosstour in your garage.

pelicanmedia 04-23-2011 01:22 PM

Yes, that's my wife's. That's partly what sold me on Honda, and AWD.

Maybe he lives at the bottom of a 12 mile long hill?

merlin the wrench 04-23-2011 06:45 PM

we get 19 - 21 on average but have seen as high as 35 - 40 on trips over several tankfulls flat and level 65 mph. They can do it but it not around town.

My wife has one too. However we've been Honda/Acura fans for a while. That Crosstour is pretty impressive
