Driver seat belt retracts very slowly

Hi All,

I have my TSX 05 and for the past few months i have noticed that the driver side seat belt won't retract quickly.

I have taken my car for service to the dealer recently and then didn't even mentioned that it had that problem.

How long is the warranty on the seat belts..

Thanks

I had my seatbelt tensioner break on mine at about 80K miles. It was not covered under warranty, was about $400 or so if I remember correctly. However my dealer fixed it for free because I have I bought the car new there and have done all my service there from day 1. It was cool that they hooked me up.

Spoke to Acura Customer Service Rep and he told me if it is retractor failure then it's covered under acura life time warranty.

Will post back once i come back from there tomorrow.

No they won't. They told me if the seat belt won't lock then they will replace other wise i have to pay for it.

I got the replacement seat belt online and planning to do it myself.

Thanks. I had to do the same thing for a 1990 acura legend. Replacement was a sight sore, lol. Ugliest looking thing, but it worked just fine.

try clean up the metal part behind the belt, mine some how collected a lots of dirt/sticky.

+1 to cleaning the belt and buckle assembly. Years of dirt and oil can add friction to the retraction mechanism and slow things down.

Honda/Acura have a lifetime warranty on seat belts. I can't find it on the website at the moment but it is:

Warranty Coverage:
Seat belts that fail to function properly during normal
use are covered under warranty for the useful life of
the car.
Warranty Does Not Cover:
• Malfunction due to abuse, alteration, accidental
damage, or damage resulting from a collision or
misuse.
• Replacement of a properly functioning seat belt
for cosmetic or comfort reasons.

I took my car in last winter when I had slow retraction, but could not duplicate the problem in teh warm inspection area. The dealer was right, it is only slow when everything is cold. Apprently what happens is they take out the old belt and put a new one in for free. Then they send the belt to Acura where they test it. If the belt functions then the dealer has to pay for the belt, otherwise it is no cost ot the dealer.

Look through your owner's manual and show the dealer the seat belt warranty, that should get them to comply.
