Drivers side door won't open but it's unlocked

Hey guys, I am posting this regarding my brothers car. He drives a 1998 Honda Accord coupe and today he tries to get into the car and the drivers side door won't open but the car is unlocked. :dunno: I tried a few different ways to get it open with no luck. Any suggestions?

If it won't open from inside or out, you'll need a slim jim to pop it open.

I was hoping I wouldn't have to use that. Those things can really mess up your locks. Should he buy one or should he take the car to a locksmith?

get in through the passenger side. take a screw driver and remove the inner door panel. once the panel is removed, reconnect the metal bar that touches your locking mechanism

That's good. Didn't know you could do that with those cars.

Depending what's wrong you may not be able to, but it's worth looking into.

98 honda accord should have the same door as my tl. so im just assuming.

NSXNEXT 08-14-2009 11:41 AM

If it's like the TL there should be two screws, one in the interior door handle area and one in the armrest.

BUT I don't think you can get the door panel out without having the door opened. I think it will be stuck around the door frame but I can't remember.

^^^^^ I think the door on the TL is different from what I can see.

My brother and I took a second look at the door panel last night and we believe that we would have to take the dash apart because there is a screw behind the dash with the door closed. We took it in to our mechanic today. Thanks for the responses guys. We are hoping this won't be too costly. :annoyed: :wish:

He got in and out Dukes of Hazzard style this morning when we brought it in, but the window was down.
