How to reset srs light

so it finally got me. the friggin light is solid red and i dunno how to clear it.

I've read it may just go away with a simple clear, or it may be a number of other malfunctions.

Also I read theres a warranty extension on the occupant position detection system which also may be the issue

And to call acura at 1800 382 2238 to assign a case number and get the light fixed for free potentially?

Could someone please tell me how to reset the SRS light. I rear how to do it but I still dunno what I'm looking for. I know where. (under the steering wheel to the left).

If you have an SRS light on your dash and you have that plug behind the driver's fuse box. might want to check with the 3G TL side people first.

If it goes off again, try to see what caused it. It took me awhile to figure it out, but i narrowed it to the passenger seatbelt buckle. I had to reset it, then just wait till something triggered it out and narrowed it down. If its one of the seatbelt buckles then Acura will fix it for you for free.

On the driver side fuse box I found the yellow wires but they are both connected to the back of the fusebox but there both connected there is no dummy wire can someone direct me to the correct wire I have to do this to so I don't mess anything up! Like a pic of it? Last time I messed with electricity in my car I burnt out my xm radio

aznboi2424 09-02-2009 03:17 AM

the 2 wires are connected with a pigtail and then plugged into a dummy slot on the back of the fuse box. You have to unplug the pigtail.

I had the same problem, it ended up being the Seat Belt Buckle. Made an appointment with Acura, they checked it out and fixed it for free. The Seat Belts are covered by a lifetime warranty so it wouldn't hurt to take it into the dealership and see what they say.

aznboi2424 09-03-2009 01:03 AM

actually they will charge you a diagnosis fee (my dealer is $98) if the problem discovered is not covered by warranty.

aznboi2424 09-03-2009 11:09 AM

4th picture... it's under ur steering wheel to the left and is angled. So it will not be facing you directly when you look up there.

Take a good look at PIC #4 go under there and things will become quite clear.

You can get it from the archive

http://web.archive.org/web/200703230...gra96/srs.html

Basically:

Supplies Needed: 2 wires
Steps:
1) You need to find the MES Connector. On my car it was plugged into the back-side of the fuse box. It was yellow in color and was a 2 prong connector. The insulating material around the wires of the connector was also yellow. For me, it was easy to find. HOWEVER, I have heard of some people saying that they had a green connector located near the hood release latch. Wherever your connector is located, it is plugged into a "dummy harness." Hence, the prongs are not actually plugged into anything; the "dummy harness" just holds the MES Connector and prevents it from bouncing around.

2) Clip one alligator clip to one of the prongs and the other alligator clip to the other prong. If you're using 2 strands of wire, you won't be clipping, but twisting or shoving the wire into the respective prongs.

3) Hold the two ends of your wire together, so that they are now connected.

4) Keeping the wires connected, turn the ignition on (Do NOT start your car).

5) The SRS light comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off. Quickly disconnect the two wires.

6) The SRS light will come on again. Quickly reconnect your wires.

7) The SRS light goes off. Disconnect your wire connection and leave the wires disconnected.

8) If you did this correctly, the SRS will blink twice.

9) Turn the ignition off and wait 10 seconds.

10) Turn the ignition on, thus starting your car, and hopefully the SRS light will now be off.

11) Turn your car off, assuming the above instructions worked and your SRS light is now off. If not, either retry the instructions and/or verify that nothing else is wrong.

11) Remove your wires, do not cross them at all or let them touch. Replug the yellow/green connector back into the "dummy harness".

12) If the SRS light comes back on (assuming you reset the SRS correctly and the light was off), then something is malfunctioning in the SRS Airbag System and you'll have to see a dealership or repair shop.

Problems?

- You only have a 4 second window to connect/disconnect the wires. Example: when the SRS light comes on in Step 6, you have 4 seconds to reconnect the wires.

- Make sure you have the right connector and that a module or some other part of the SRS system is not malfunctioning.

- It took me 2 tries to get it right. The main thing to remember is that the wires need to be connected when the light is on, disconnected when the light is off.

I need to do this to my 01 cls Thanx for the info guys.

Rajca 05-02-2010 06:40 PM

I keep getting 3 blinks instead of 2 blinks. Light will not go off.

I did it maybe 20 times and always get 3 blinks instead of 2.

Finding the yellow plug

I also have a 2001 CL-S. Found the plug under the steering column cover to the left. Don't have to remove a thing to get to it. Just stick your head up under the cover. I first removed the cover over the fuses on the driver's side, but it's not there.

Under the steering column cover, I saw two yellow plugs. One large, and above that a smaller one. It's the smaller one, and it comes out quite easily. I performed the procedure in the DIY using speaker wire, and it worked like a charm, exactly as advertised. No more SRS light. A great relief, as I have 230,000 miles on this car, clearly out of any warranty known to humankind.

shezi01 10-05-2010 08:14 AM

I just fixed the srs light in my 03 tls, all the links were dead so i took a picture which might come handy, its from driver side, looking semi up and out towards the driver door and fender.

Your car still has the lifetime seatbelt warranty. If your seatbelt buckle set off the SRS light (which can happen), the dealer will replace the buckle for you at no cost.

klunter 10-12-2010 03:36 PM

This worked!! Thanks. Anyone know if the seatbelt warranty is applicable in Canada?

aznboi2424 10-12-2010 05:40 PM

If I remember the complaints correctly, I dont think they do. Just a 10 year/100k ish type of warranty but you can call Acura Client Services and they should be able to tell you.

Johnsonbar 07-24-2011 01:35 PM

I just had mine pop on Friday, how would I be able to find out if its the seat belt without going to the dealership and paying a diagnostic? Times are very tough I have to pinch every penny I have. Greatly appreciate any advice.

fuzzy02CLS 07-24-2011 04:27 PM

You can't. Call the dealer the fee should not be charged. Tell them you got a letter saying so from Acura about the SRS light. Those of us that got letters do not pay. Even if you can't produce the letter just tell them you got one in the past & can't find it.

This was a safety thing. The dealer should not be charging a fee to check it. Sadly some do.

Seatbelts have a lifetime warranty. Tell them it's messed up, and they'll tell you if it really is.

aznboi2424 07-25-2011 02:17 PM

Well my dealer said that if it wasn't, then I would be charged for the diagnosis fee.

What I did was I reset the light and I waited for it to come on again. Then reset it over and over, eventually you'll know what set it off. The first time for me was whenever the passenger would put their seatbelt in the buckle while the car was on, it set off the SRS light. Sure enough, I got a new seatbelt buckle from Acura. Now my light is on again and I've figured out that it gets set off whenever I take the seatbelt off while the car is on. Looks like I'll be getting a new driver's buckle soon too.

Papizzy860 07-27-2011 11:31 PM

I got a letter from acura about the srs light i went to go for a check and they checked it out. they check it out but did not fix the problem because i needed to pay a fee -_-

ic3man_2002 02-09-2012 10:50 PM

Hey first time posting tried the quick fix and at the end instead of getting a double srs blink i got three srs blinks... Any idea what that means? And my car is a 03 cl-s with 140000 miles, can i still bring it under that warranty for the srs?

aznboi2424 02-14-2012 03:38 PM

it doesnt matter how many blinks, as long as the light resets and stays off, your fine for now.

jmcabral1281 03-19-2012 11:52 AM

I made a scene to when i took my cl and they gave me some bu!!sh!t reason they wouldnt replace my recalled tranny that was still messed up after they installed some injecter kit.
My srs light is on too

aznboi2424 03-20-2012 04:17 PM

Why would they replace your transmission if your out of the warranty period?
The oil jet kit was installed after an inspection of your 2nd gear and was determined that it was not damaged by excessive heat.

Your SRS has nothing to do with your transmission.

srs light

hey guys, im having the same problem right now i previously have a accident the aribag from my seat came out i already bouth a new seat and my srs light still on how i could turn it off?? acura tl 2001

aznboi2424 07-12-2012 03:56 PM

You turn it off by following the DIY or doing a youtube search on it. It might not work since you may have to replace the SRS computer.

Being a tard and believing that there was ONLY ONE yellow connector under the driverside dash, I shorted the big connector several times since it was easily seen. My car acts normally, but for shits and giggles, I'd like to know what exactly I was shorting 30 times in a row... :tomato:

The reset worked for me after my friend pulled his seat-belt off and sat funny while the car was still moving, activating both the SRS and Side Airbag light (tripped the OPDS?)

SRS Light on 2000 TL

I tried this fix on my 2000 Acura TL and it doesn't work. The SRS light never goes out after the first six seconds as indicated in the "Fix" instructions. I tried several times with no luck...

Same here, you actually have a problem then and need to take a trip to the dealership. Hopefully it'll be covered under warranty

keemttam 09-11-2013 07:03 AM

I'm going to try this on my 03 CL type s.

DWL TL 06 09-12-2013 10:49 AM

if your light stays on ...bring your car to the dealer to have it checked...my 03 cl-s had a bad driver side seatbelt sensor where the seatbelt clip inserts to...dealer replace free of charge.:)
