HDS Honda/Acura GNA600 Diagnostic Scanner

Does this system give you the ability to monitor and record every aspect of real time data and advanced parameters? Especially monitoring knock?

Nice googling

It seems that the HIM can be used to monitor all these same items as well. Only differences I can find right now are that the HIM is the older version and its a bit slower then the new GNA600. Plus the HIM as opposed to the GNA600, can be bought new on ebay from china for around 200$.

Sure it seems like a bulky item and since you need a laptop to view everything I can see how it may be obnoxious to use while driving. But it looks like this would work perfectly with a small netbook sitting where the cup holders are and the HIM unit tucked neatly under the dash.

Any info on the HIM unit Inaccurate? I messaged a few of these sellers on ebay regarding the HIM unit. Do you see anything wrong with purchasing the HIM unit I listed below, connecting to a laptop and starting to data log?

I do see it uses a rs232 port but a simple rs232 to usb adapter should do the trick

Honda Diagnostic Software download...works for me

http://www.keyecu.com/images/upload/...cutool/HDS.rar

Inaccurate 09-29-2010 01:20 AM

Bert, How are you using the software? What hardware will you use to interface with the ecu and the downloaded software?

libert69 09-29-2010 02:10 AM

I was planning on buying the HIM (honda interface module) to work with the hds.

However, the HIM can only be used while the vehicle is stationary. It does not record live data so I dont think I want it anymore. The gna600 is too expensive also

Right now Im looking at AutoEnginuity with their pc based scan tool. If I do buy this, I will be buying the enhanced honda expansion so I can have access to the advanced parameters such as knock. Not a bad price if you consider what a regular data logger costs and an aftermarket knock monitor.

What do you think?

Evs-One 10-02-2010 02:35 PM

Who told you the HIM only works while the vehicle is stationary?? I am constantly using my HIM/HDS to monitor all types of things...EGR lift v command, STFT, knock, etc etc etc.

I've use the Chinese knockoffs and they work identical to the Factory HIM units...jujst get a small laptop that's Windows based to run the HDS software on.

libert69 10-02-2010 03:52 PM

One of the merchants on ebay told me that. Damn. I wanted the HIM to data log and monitor knock. Too bad I already bought the autoenginuity scan tool. Now I have to buy the honda enhanced parameters also

I guess you have the HIM wired into a 12v source? Or maybe into the cigarette lighter?

experience with cable only HDS?

I've seen the HIM and GNA600, and FLY100 but for a lower price I've also seen a cable only version that connects your car directly to a laptop which runs the HDS.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

I'd like to find out if it has the same functions as the HIM since it costs about $125 less.

Thanks

bmeyer 12-17-2010 01:35 PM

I've been using the HIM to monitor params while driving as well. I just have a AC/DC converter plugged in to power the unit. No biggie.

Dynamech 12-17-2010 01:49 PM

I'm glad the HIM will gather and show real-time data - thats what I need

This is a picture of the cable only version I mentioned:
http://i.ebayimg.com/24/!Bzgd+egB2k~...7Zv4w~~_12.JPG
Obviously it's not the same thing as the HIM but does anyone know if it will function like an HIM when plugged into a laptop with HDS?

Hey just wondering how you got the chinese HIM scanner to work ? Do you have plug into a 12v? Are you running XP operating system ?

Thanks for your help! I got a HIM laying here which I cant seem to get it to work!

Hi, I bought one – ran a USB to RS232 convertor on Com1 and it ran perfectly- even fixed a problem that would have needed the dealer HIM. So it’s already payed for itself.
No need for 12v power, it’s powered via the diagnostic socket. Led’s should light when you plug it in. I have run this on XP- Vista-64 and Win7-64.

ECU Flash Updates/Programming

I know this thread has been dead for a while however I've recently become very interested in getting either an HIM/GNA600/MVCI...I know the MVCI is the latest but also pricey...seeing as how I'll only use it occasionally seems like a lot. ANYWAY my question is...if I buy one of these can I update my 05' TL ECU...or are there even any updates to the ECU available? Is there any benefits? Can I tune anything?

Seeing as how I can update/(occassionally mod) the software on my iphone/router/tivo...why not the car??? lol

I checked out the serviceexpress.honda.com website and they want $155 to rent the HIM for 3 days (when you can buy it on ebay for $200....) and seems like there are a lot of features the tools offer. My car is at 120k...never had a check engine light - so not doing it out of necessity. However doing a timing belt this weekend and looking to follow the HDS steps in the service manual regarding relearning CKP patterns/etc.

I am very proficient with computers/electronics to mechanical...however very much a n00b to tuning/updating any ECU. Thoughts anyone?

Thanks.

TheChamp531 10-09-2011 07:43 AM

Are you asking if the Diag. scanner can tune the ECU?

No? You need to get the J&R ECU to tune.

The scanner is to monitor data parameters in real-time.

Bump....

Looking at getting an HDS tool myself to reset SRS lights in both my cars, calibrate my ZDX throttle body, and a few other miscellaneous things.

What's my best route? What did you end up doing libert?

rubenders 09-14-2013 01:54 AM

The hds work for me there is only one problem if you get one make sure you are using hds software 2.26 or lower 2.27 don't work no more.

This what I did with my hds. When I did 3.7 intake manifold and tl.

This is how you fix the idle problem
before you make any changes on you car to any sensors that has to send a fedback to the ecu take note so you can adjust like the tb position sensor has 2 sensor tb position sensor b and tb position sensor b the ecu use ther minimum value from this sensor to control the idle so before you take you factory tb out note the value from this sensor with the ignition on but don't start the engine then put you zdx or tl shaw tb and look at the value to tb position sensor a and b and you will notice it come set from factory to a higher value then your factory and that what make the bad idle in this mod. Just adjust the screw in the back of the new tb and make the bombers the same as before when it has the factory tb.
