How long do your stock brakes last?
 

I'm wondering how long those non-brembo brakes are lasting. All my driving is around town so there are some parts where I'm doing 45 for 3 miles at a time and then other parts where I hit a few lights. I guess you could call it rural with a little bit of city. So, how long are your stock brakes lasting?

depends on how much you brake.

lots of hwy, little braking...it's not unheard of to see 100k mi.

lots of city, lots of braking....30k-60k mi.

i have front brembos (OEM last about 30k mi, plus the dust was annoying, have hawk HPS pads in now...at 56kmi...still lots of pad left, same driving conditions).

the rears i swapped out...at 40k mi? the pads were glazng over and making noises. hated it. put in hawk pads in the back, only makes noise if backing up slowly with light braking. still have a ton of brake pad left.

with stock i'd say at least 50k...

but i think the cost of pads are inconsequential in the long term..that's a few years worth of driving for something that is inevitably consumed.

Get CMAXes with a lifetime replacement warranty if you think the cost is too much..but i mean i'm only saving $150 or so every 3-4 years?

My stockies lasted 30k. Then I put in Akebono ProACT Ceramics. Those lasted about 40k, and dusted way the hell less. Now I have Project-mu Type-NS. Those haven't worn out yet, but the brake feel/performance is much better than the previous ones.

Project-Mu didn't have a direct listing for the TL, but I noticed on Honda's parts catalog, the TL and newer TSX have the same part number for the front pads, so I used the pads listed for the newer TSX for Project-mu.

still on the original brakes on my 06 tsx. Mostly highway driving-almost 136k miles.

I changed to HPS pads and Power Slot rotors at 30,000 miles and my stock pads were still like new. I'm saving them for later.

I am just past 80k on my oem brakes! 60% city pretty damn amazing

120k+ no sounds yet. Very rare for me to get brake noise ATM but fronts are nearing the metal indicator of low pad

I went with a BBK at 90,000 miles only for performance and was still on the factory pads front and rear. The fronts had more than 70% left, they probably would have made it past 200k.

I put slotted rotors on the rear at the same time as the front BBK. The stock pads looked brand new, no measurable wear. I had the car at the dealer for some unrelated work 6 months later and they told me my rears were completely worn out, almost down to the metal and wanted $500 to replace them. I blindly ordered a set of rear pads and as soon as I pulled the rim off I saw that they were still perfect. I went ahead and put the new pads on there just because they were slightly higher performance but I was pissed. I thought it was weird they somehow wore that much in 6 months but I figured maybe the slotted rotors ate them up. The stock rears probably would have lasted the life of the car.

So 90k for my car but they would've gone more than double that.

My Brembo stock OEM Ferodo pads lasted until ~50K miles. Replaced with Rotex Gold pads and they look like they will easily last more than that plu smuch less dust.

I replaced my front pads at 92k and rear pads at 98k. Both were used to the max by then.

When I changed my brakes from stock to Duralast gold Cmax 10 months ago. I'm guessing around 67k miles at the time. The stock ones looked fine.

My front brakes were down to 2mm at 47K. The rears were still good at 80%. I'm in LA and most of my driving is done on surface streets.

OEM ORIGINAL from 11/2006 - I'm at 87k and I'm confident that I can hit 100k before I need replacing.

well in a different thread someone posted that their OEM brakes are still looking good at 150K....am guessing all highway....

I agree with TLTRIgirl....depends a lot on your driving habit.....

if you drive all highway they will last longer
if you drive city and coast to stops they will last long
if you drive city and go directly from ACC pedal to brake pedal then they wont last long at all....

i had my oem brakes (rotors and pads) replaced at ~80K...OEM brakes still had some life left in em....i went for Powerslot slotted rotors and hawk hps pads....awesome setup.....am sitting at 160K right now, rotors look awesome, rear pads still good.....front i switched for the same pads at 120K (they still had life in em).....and now I have 40K on the front pads and they will last another 20K easy !!!

My "other" 3G TL is an '05 automatic. The wife drives that one. It has I think 80,000 miles on it and still has the original brakes. And one of my next door neighbors has an '05 manual which is approaching 110,000 miles with the original brakes. His commute is nearly all super highway.

i replaced my oem at about 80 and there was still plenty left, replaced with hawk pads much better now

I replaced my front pads with Duralast ceramics at 60k miles. They squeak when they are cold (initial take off after being parked for a while, but quiet down after warmed up)

The stock rears are at 112K and still have material left. I have a 50/50 drive Highway and City streets.

Currently at 55k with original breaks. City driver.

My 2004 5AT still has the original brakes after almost 210K miles!

Most of my driving is on the highway.

still have the original front brakes-highway driving but lots of traffic lights-

50-60k miles is pretty typical around here in the Dallas area. Traffic light timing is horrendous so you end up stopping at nearly every light.

just wanted to post an update...

I am at 178K miles and the front's are still doing good...I might be able to get another 5-7K miles out of those....

the rears I replaced with Racing Brake ET500 and they have plenty life left in them

Sounds like how it is around here. I swear the city must have a tax on gas. There's one road that has the lights timed right. The rest are unbelievably bad. I average 13mph is city driving. The lights are so bad that I'll get close to the speed limit and then coast because I know the next light is going to be red before I get there no matter how hard I accelerate. I still see 99% of the same people every day flooring it past me just to slam on the brakes at the next light.

I replaced my brakes because I needed a BBK for track use. That was somewhere around 75k or maybe it was 90k and they still looked almost new. Back then it was seeing a lot of highway use.

My fronts lasted me 70k miles. Probably could have gone an extra 3-5k on them.

My rears are still OEM and my car is at about 81k miles now.

Both front and rear factory rotors. Front rotors don't even have a slight lip at all. I think one or both of my rear calipers is seized up because I use to avg 17-18 mpg between fill-ups and now the past 4 tanks have been 12-13mpg average

I drive 85% city. I work 0.9 miles from home.

almost 80k stock brakes both front and rear and still have plenty of life left. Mostly highway driving.
