silvrbreez's '08 WDP TL-S Progress Thread

Just picked up my '08 TL-S in WDP with an A-spec lip kit installed. New to me and nice all around. Seems to be very well kept and runs smooth. Looking forward to lurking the forums for some pointers on how to do a few minor things.

First on my list is some all-weather mats, LED interior conversion, iPod integration, and lots of driving.

Enjoy pics form the dealer's lot...

Nice ride! Welcome to the WDP club. May I ask, what dealer did you buy from?

Congrats. You chose the right color.

Get some bumper plugs and a Domed Decal asap though.

GK: Got it from a tiny dealer in Houston. PM me for the name.

ross: Care to point me the right direction? Besides, TX requires front plates so its only a matter of time before 5-0 makes me bolt the hard plates on.

congrats on the new pick up. your acura dealer should have bumper plugs, if not, send a PM to AckTL05 and he'll get a set for you cheap.

as for the domed decal, you can order from www.domeddecalz.com

i wouldn't worry about the front plate law too much. i haven't had a front plate on in 2.5 years and i've never gotten hassled for it.

actually; theres been a lapse in the law.
some one forgot to sign some papers; and its now legal to run without a front plate.

Congrats on the Type S purchase. Dont let these guys get to you about it not being a 6spd manual. People on this forum seem to think the 6mt TL's are gods gift to earth lol. but heres a secret, there not :-) I have had a couple of them and am glad to be driving an auto again.
I know you said that TX requires a front plate, but so does IL here and where I live anyway they do not enforce it. I have never put a front plate on any of my cars and in 16 years of driving I have never been hassled. Here is a tip if you want a couple plugs for free. The bumper plugs typically cost like 7-9 bucks a piece, but if you go to a Acura dealership they will give just them to you. Just go to the parts department and ask if he can go to the service department and grab a couple bumper license plate plugs out of the bucket. They take them off new vehicles and toss them in a bucket then install the front plates.

Besides that it looks like your car is good to go. Congrats and welcome to the forum!

James

congrats! great color too, and nice that you don't have to install the a-spec yourself!

i was just about to put my WDP bumper plugs on the black market, if you don't get them from the local dealer for free send me a message and I can work something out with you so you don't end up paying $20 for bumper plugs!

Thanks for all the info. I was thinking of just sticking the plate inside the front windshield for as long as possible to see what happens. I just seem to be the one who always gets busted for the dumb stuff.

I'll check out the domed decals. That wasn't what I though you were referring to. I thought you were talking about the main "A" Acura emblem being replace and not the embossed section on the front bumper. I'm not seeing any options I really dig on the domeddecalz.com site and I kinda like the embossed look. We'll see if anything changes my mind.

Lapse in the law is correct. I've had mine off since July 2011.

in the 5 years I've been driving 3G TL's I've had 2 instances where a cop actually made me put my front license plate back on.

Maybe it's different in TX, but here in WI they just give you an equipment violation which is 0 cost and you just take your car to the cop shop with plates on and they sign off on it.

Then when you leave you do like I do and take your plates back off again and drive for another 2 years until they pull you over again for something stupid and also notice your plate is missing and give you another equipment notice

i'm the one who makes these decals, and if you're not into Carbon Fiber or Black Chrome, i can make any color you want. just email me if interested on the website.

Ehh dont do that I would say thats worse than having it just mounted where its supposed to go. Then you have a tacky looking plate up by your windshield that you can see while driving, it will probably rattle, and who knows might scratch your dash somehow. Another thing I dont recommend doing is mounting the plate offcenter. Some guys for whatever reason like it on these forums, but nothing looks more hideous than an offcenter mounted plate. Either put it in the factory location or just leave it off all together :-)

Enjoy that thing!

I've seen them low in the passenger side of the windshield mounted with suction cups through the screw holes and it blends in pretty nicely. I'll figure it out though, I've always just followed the law.

What about one of the hidden or motorized plate brackets? That way you can follow the law when you're on the road but can easily move the license plate out of sight when you're at a meet or are taking photos.

I guess I'll call this a progress thread, but the title would have to change.

Here's a short list of what's been done so far...
Bumper Plugs
Keyhole Delete Mod
All Weather Mats
USA SPEC ipod integration
LED interior upgrade
LED license plate bulbs
Paint Protection film (bumper, A-spec lip, hood, fenders, mirrors)

Not anything too major, but just tidying it up while I think of what's next. I had no intentions of running wild with this car (been there, done that-with a few imports in the past), but the itch is spreading and now I'm finding myself looking at fitment and suspension options. We'll see what that turns into.
