Amplified Details' 268k mile 6MT Project
Hello, I just picked up a 2005 TL 6-speed yesterday for a DEAL. Being a long-distance commuter by the last owner for 6+ years, it has Super high miles at 278k but it runs and shifts perfectly. She looks pretty rough right now but the body is straight, the interior is in good shape for the miles and it's a clean title.
Can anyone help me figure out what the proper sized tire would be? currently on 235/35/19 but I think they look ridiculous (too small). The car is lowered on F&F type-II coilovers, not sure how low.

congrats and the tires is fine remember this is a FWD car there is no need for big tires.

if you go with thicker profile then the speedo will be off more than now, as of right now if your speedo indicate you going 75 mph in actual speed you are doing 82 mph. Trust me I ran two car with 18" and 19" rim on low profile tire and yet the speedo is off by 5 mph.

235/35/19 is the proper tire size.
remember our stock tire specs are 235/45/17...
your new tires have to have the same rolling diameter or close to it as possible, which 235/35/19's achieve.
if you think the tires are too small, you'll need to downgrade/upgrade to 18 inches. this will allow you to run a higher profile height while still keeping the stock rolling diameter

Thank you for the information, I appreciate it. Maybe I will try to swap the wheels with some 18's. I prefer a larger tire because of comfort and grip so these may not work for me. Also planning on lifting the car up an inch or so.

Yes, the plan is to go with forged rods/pistons (that's why the mileage didn't worry me) and single turbo setup, not sure what size yet, something like a PTE6466 or similar. I would like to make around 450whp on 92octane.
First things first, I need to get it looking proper. Adjust the suspension (came with ingalls rear camber kit and what looks like Skunk2 front control arm kit), and get it cleaned up. The paint is in some serious need of love.

Neither can I! I've owned my Turbo Integra sedan for a decade now and I'm overdue for an upgrade. Bought a TSX in December but wasn't satisfied with it so hopefully this TL does the trick.

lol, funny you say that. They've already grown on me. I think the small tire is throwing me off. I test fitted some 255/35's and it looked perfect and as far as I could tell without driving it, they didn't contact anything. Fenders are already rolled from the previous owner so I'm going to look into test fitting some more size options.

Damn! 278k, reminds me of my old accord...RIP... now mine doesn't feel so old at 115k, glad to see your happy with your purchase, how much more do you expect to get out of it? With some care it should last some time! Nice purchase

not sure how to edit but my accidentally subd last comment before finished... Won't know for sure though because I'm going to pull the motor and do forged rods & pistons soon. Hoping to have it turbo'd by this summer.
yeah, it's really bad. I've already started wet sanding the car. 1500>3000 on the fenders/hood )last owner had them repainted due to rock chips) and 3000 grit on the rest. It's already looking so much better, I'm excited for the final result.
I'm thinking I should start a thread for the progress of the car.

Definitely anxious to see paint progress, mine is in nowhere near as bad shape as yours but I'm getting it fully polished in the next month and am likewise super excited to see the result. Granted mine only has 60k miles on it

Not joking. The car obviously needs some TLC cosmetically but the only thing needed mechanically is a clutch, which I was planning on swapping out anyway. Currently trying to figure out the best one for my needs.
No problem. Go on your local Craigslist and look what other comparable TL's are listed for, that will give you a better idea of it's current true value as it can fluctuate.
Sounds good, I will soon.
So far I haven't had a lot of time to put into the car, (8 hours or so) but I knocked out a few panels and did a lot of pressure washing. Front bumper and side skirts need to be repainted for sure, they really show the miles and are completely basted from all the highway driving. And the pin striping took the clear coat with it when they rotted off so i'm trying to think if I should try to fill with touchup>sand>buff or just try to re stripe it with gloss black. Pics incoming...
Me thinks this is already said thread! Just get the mods to rename once you're ready

Getting a little serious. The swirls were so bad I decided the DA with some 3000grit was needed.
Went with some 1500 grit down to 3000 on the fenders to remove the orange peel texture (previous owner had the front end resprayed due to rock chips).
Like stated before, the pin stripes caused a real problem. I'm assuming the adhesive ate through the clear coat over the years. (picture is after 3000grit)
It looks a lot better but I'm weighing my options on how to go about fixing it up a little better.
Before and after:
So this is where it's at as of right now:
Only 50% of the car done, no polishing yet, just sanded and 2 stages of buffing on the driver side and passenger fender.
Bumper and side skirt paint is non-fixable so I'm looking into what year bumper and lip kit looks best to replace them with.
More updates will roll in as I get time.

Yeah, I can get it resprayed (probably do it myself) but I want to look at other bumper/lip combos and see what I like best. I'm still not sure what year bumpers look like what, LOL. No time to look yet.

Thank you.
Thanks! It helps that I do professional detailing and paint restoration
I'm not sure what TL's go for in your area but the next comparable 6MT 3G TL within a 300 mile radius of my location was, and currently is $8300 and has a salvage title.
Again, the only down side to this was the high mileage, which I couldn't care less about since I'll be building to block anyway and it runs like it has 100k on it.
I appreciate your opinion anyway, though!

oh yeah, got to cleaning the interior and picked up a couple more engine covers. Only 1 more to collect (timing belt side)!
Like I was saying, the interior is in great condition considering the miles but was definitely due for a proper cleaning and conditioning.
I may or may not get to extracting the carpets, we'll see.

yes sir. looking good my man..... I was also curious about the pricing you paid as well.. Im in Canada and I got my 06 last fall with the full a-spec kit for 8 grand canadian which is about 6300 usd... it had 200,000km which is 124k miles... however mine is not the 6 speed but it is very interesting to see how the prices range on these cars from region to region.. there is no over abundance of TLs where I live either..

quick question OP, why are you using 1500 grid? is the defect is that bad? can a 2500 or 3000 grid correct that defect? and are you using a rotary buffer for a DA buffer to correct the paint? thanks.
