Post What Air Filter Should I use???

Hey guys,

I got a 2011 Acura TSX and am planning on getting a new air filter for it.

I'm trying to go with something that is good on performance(Acceleration, MPG, etc.) but at the same time does not mess with the car's quality.

I was thinking of getting a K&N air filter.

What you guys think?

Is it worth getting the K&N air filter?

Again, just looking for what is best out there.

Thanks

I have not had problems with K&N, however as it is a highly controversial issue, if you have any doubt, purchase oem only made filters.

No air filter is going to give you any gains. Stick to OE and you'll be fine.

don't bother with an air filter, you'll get gains! Per Sir Ceb

the stock oem air filter is likely to out flow the throttle body....

so, you wont get any gains from an aftermarket filter.

Thanks for the correction and you are certainly correct. Running without an air filter will give you gains - more noise, more dirt and more money spent on repairs.

Has the railroad contacted you guys yet?

I know you didn't but maybe they put NSA on the trail and they went VFR direct. Let me check.

ah, typical red tape i guess We apparently have major shipments of fuel coming through periodically. I don't think its in writing, but our SOP if we get any type of fire goin on one, We are to evac the ambu corps and the rescue squad. Also shuttin down the bridge lmao. no amount of foam and water that we could get within 20 min will contain it, then its too late

Any fire or hazmat release in NJ can only improve the air quality and you guys are using nice fresh air anyway when you're out ther putting down a fire.

Hey, now that we're taking air and filters we're back on topic!

A bit off topic, I assume everyone in your Department has the ERG downloaded to their phones and your medical guys have this and this

Whaaaat? You did the DR without your A-zine buds? I'm shocked.

I hope that isn't your guys' ebola suits. If it is, does it allow enough flexibility for you to bend over and kiss your ass goodbye?

Would that mean that even an intake would be useless, as the throttle body would have the same restriction point?

The difference is not very noticeable, main difference is with sound.

Correct. Because of the louder intake noises, the butt dyno will swear that there are power gains but there is significant evidence that aftermarket intakes do not increase HP and most actually reduce HP.

Manufacturers spend thousands of research hours honing the intake systems to be the most efficient. No aftermarket company can afford that type of research that would be necessary, so they just throw some tubing together with a cone filter and claim gains. All the gains are in volume.

In the early days of emission controls, the air filter was intentionally used to restrict airflow. In those days, emission controls were bolted on to a conventional pre-emissions engine and the filter was part of the restrictions.

In the 30 years or so, emission controls have become integrated with the overall engine design and electronics have taken the place of mechanical controls. Accordingly, modern engines can produce significant HP while still being "clean." Often, removing emission controls actually reduces HP as the system was designed for optimal operation with those controls.

The air filtration systems that come standard on modern cars are state of the art and no single change can produce HP gains - but a single change can produce a HP loss.
