Just added RV6 V2 Jpipe to my existing Magnaflow mufflers which made it a little bit louder

Hey guys, I'm about to pull the trigger on a catback and jpipe combo. It's between the xlr8 round tips catback and rv6 v2 jpipe or the xlr8 catback and xlr8 v2 jpipe. Surprisingly the xlr8/rv6 combo is $50 cheaper. Should I go for this instead or keep it all the same with xlr8?

BTW, I love how the xlr8 catback sounds compared to the ATLP. It has a bark to it and the ATLP sounds decent but not loud enough LOL.

Did you hear the ATLP in person? I have it on and had to put resonators on it, it was loud. I could hear it coming from 4 to 5 blocks away (let a friend take it for a spin). Also I am getting a lot of positive feedback on the sound. One time I had a guy chase me for over 10Km to tell me it sounds sick(it was funny story I though he wanted to race so we punched it quite a bit through the city).

Sympley, I know it's loud. I just like the type of sound the XLR8 exhaust makes more. They're both great in their own way. Can't go wrong with either.

you will be surprised how old that sound gets when it becomes an annoyance..

the good thing about xlr8 is that it has a growl.. its a nice growl but you sacrifice that with the alot of drone..

drone is something you do not want..

All aftermarket exhausts drone to a certain extent. But I'll have to find out for myself, the good thing in my situation is I have a 6MT so I can somewhat minimize the drone by keeping it in the lower rpm range.

Agreed, I missed the sound after not driving it for a night

I think it looks plenty big for me. You have a straight shot of the rear? I chose oval tips instead. I just like it more on the 4G. Waiting for better weather to install them.

is either ATLP or XLR8 better for AVOIDING drone? I've seen so many videos - both systems sound cool...but it woudl be nice to get a s ystem that sounds louder and more aggressive than stock without droning.

drive around long enough with an exhaust that drones and you will want to shoot yourself. been there done that.

I also don't want a s ystem that makes my co-workers think "who is that idiot with the hole in their muffler"....

a TL is anot a race car. it shoudl not sound like a race car. but a bit more aggressive when you lay into it would be cool..then subtle when you just cruise.

either of these systems do that or do they all scream "look at me" 100% of the time.????

The thing I like about our XLR8 exhaust is that it isn't "look at me" loud when you're cruising. It really only opens up when your at WOT. Go with our XLR8 resonated exhaust, you won't be disappointed!

I have a "custom" set up on my exhaust.
I have XLR8 J-pipe, magnaflow exhaust 11225 but as well
I have replaced my resonator to Dynomax resonator and mid muffler delete.

Yes I know ppl disapprove the hacking into an exhaust.
but with those my exhaust (to me) sounds amazing, yes there is drone.

but the way I took off from my car 0 to 60mph ( getting onto the hwy), sounds amazing!

that sounds pretty good gringo4g whats your set up and could you post a vid cruising at 60-70?How is the drone on the highway, like a few others here looking for a system that gives you a nice should when you stomp on it but won't make you want to shoot yourself on a 2 hour cruise down the highway...

thanks

So yesterday I spent most of day working on my car. I got the rv6 jpipe installed which was perfect fit. I didn't have any issues getting it. The trick was to put on the 2nd precat first and the 1st should slide right in. Removing the stock exhaust was a bitch. Shit was heavy and the bushings were a PITA. I didn't bother to disconnect the exhaust and jpipe since I'll be installing the XLR8 catback anyway. That was easy since there are 6 smaller pieces as opposed to practically the entire exhaust system. I did notice the pipe sits really low and less ground clearance. I'm just scared I might scrape it one day if I bottom or going on or off a steep driveway. That's my only concern.

Now my initial impressions; I gotta say, she sounds mean! On throttle after 2.5k rpm it's loud! Surprisingly, she's quiet on cruising speeds if I don't step on it hard. On the highway, minimal drone to be honest. I love the pop and backfire it makes on decel or engine braking. Reminds me of my past crock rockets with exhaust lol. Definitely have to get used to the sound as it is quite loud compared to stock. So far I love it. I find myself harder on the gas now. I can't help it lol but I try to stay calm and drive normal.

I have a 2010 TL (FWD) and still new to tuning so definitely looking for suggestions - only exterior cosmetics done so far. Will be installing a RonJon kit hopefully by next week. Now I'm looking to go under the hood - 100% want an exhaust - would the one you installed on yours work on mine?

looking for suggestions on a exhaust for my next mod = ) let me know!

music to my ears!

the ATLP exhaust finally arrived and i had to have it installed right away and here's a quick pic.

the sound is perfect for me, however i can already expect the wife giving me her 2 cents so i'll be looking to install a resonator as well.

i saw the ATLP 2.5" resonator available at heeltoe but am not sure if mine would need the 3". any recommendation?

Haha my wife was the same way but she's use to it now. I wouldn't want to hack up the exhaust to get a resonator put in. I would of went with the resonated version of the XLR8 exhaust.

thanks for your input carbon. i was going to PM you to see if you're planning to get a resonator.

the sound is absolutely perfect IMO, especially that pop during downshift, it is simply organismic. but this will certainly cause unnecessary attention at some point, and i'm finding driving more light footed than i normally would before the exhaust, which may not be a bad thing after all.

That being said, I ride around in S mode all day everyday lol
Just a bit curious since im still learning about this car and cars in general do you save more gas in s mode then regular driving with Automatic? I have a 2012 CBP SH-AWD TL and im averaging about 18MPG which i believe is the regular however i have noticed in other post people posting they average about 25+. sorry for going a bit off topic..

I am planning to by the same ATLP cat back exhaust like the one you just installed. I wonder if you can film the cabin sound at low and high rpm. Is there any drone?

Dang bro you added 4 resonators all together lol. Seems to be much quieter now. How's the outside tone sound? Did it take away from the original exhaust note? That's the main reason why I choose XLR8 over ATLP. I hope you are happy with the results. Video seems to validate that.

I just installed the ATLP exhaust on my 09 TL AWD. I like the external sound. However, the cabin sound is loud with some drone when I am cursing at low speed low RPM. I wonder if any one have a solution how to get rid off the drone noise but still keep the original external sound.
I search on heeltoeauto.com where I bought the exhaust, I found the have the 3" magnaflow resonator. I don't know if any one have it.

Same boat as you're in right now. The exhaust note sounds great, but the drone and how the AT shifts freaking early makes the drone annoying. Just don't want to hack up the exhaust

Who would like another cat-back exhaust choice for our 4G's?

Bruce from EndLessRPM, is doing just that for the 4G community. I'm going to be the tester, and will be dropping my car off this coming Monday. According to Bruce, he wants this cat-back exhaust done within 2-3 months from this coming week. For those that haven't heard of EndLessRPM yet. They are huge in the 3rd gen TL. My friend just got their quad-tip cat-back for his 3G and I helped him installed it. Quality, fitment and exhaust note (Magnaflow mufflers) was on point.

I currently have an ATLP exhaust on with a RV6 J-pipe on my SH. As many others on here, the exhaust note sounds great, if not perfect. The downfall has to be the drone though. Especially down low and cruising RPM. With AT, it's even worst in my case.

I'll keep you this thread updated and should have the car back within a week. EndLessRPM might also have a J-pipe created for the 4G. I'll link Bruce to this thread and he'll let you all know some more info and background about himself and company, EndLessRPM. Don't take my word for it, but expect a pre-sale if everything goes well this coming week.
