hmm.. so i'm trying to figure out exactly how difficult this is going to be. mainly because i'm not the one doing it lol. i have an 03 type s. i want to put a cl-s 6spd in it. i'll for sure need a swap harness? without needing a motor you think i'll be spending around $2,500 ish?
Oh, don't forget to replace the rear main seal, it's only like $7 and you'll be right there with the transmission off.

My build thread probably was confusing. I fucked up the timing on my first engine and thought it had to do with the turbo, I've taken it off and have a new engine in there now so all is good. Never got around to putting turbo back in, don't want to deal with it anymore.

The V-6 Accord 5 speed AT tranny is essentially the same basic transmission as our TL's.
It's all in the linkage and shifter controls which ya already have in the TL. It'll work !!!!

Try the "Regions" sub-forum for folks within your area who may be able to better assist you.
In the meantime, read up and research the various threads concerning the "AV6" donor to replace our old ailing 2nd Gen tranny. Once you've decided that this is what you would like to do, check for a used '06>'07 Honda Accord V-6 tranny in your local salvage yards. They usually are under $1000 for an "AV6".
Then, attempt to locate a local independent tranny shop who has worked on Honda trannys before. The going rate is about $500 for installation labor. Good luck with whatever you decide to do !!!

Hey guys I'm new. I have a 2003 Acura TL S, and you probably guessed it, the tranny went out. So it's been sitting the past year and i've been contemplating parting out my acura, selling it, or fixing it, and which course to go in fixing it. I have alot of experience with working on cars, been at it since I was two feet tall, but not so much as for those with so many sensors and electrical doodads. Give it to me simple, how hard is it to replace this transmission? on a scale of 1 being oh its easy as shi*, and a scale of 10 being, you're never going to get that thing in and working fine without a proper mechanic.
I just want to know if theres a chance I could potentially save a buck or two by not having it go into the shop.

6 Speed swap is not only more involved,a more challenging DIY but also cost about twice as much if not more.
As for the failures,they are outliers.
They are revised versions of ours ,and if taken care of it won't fail.
Ours not a question of IF but when, AV6: question of taken care of and lil luck.

The 6spd is out of question.. It literally costs 2x to 3x the AV6 Swap and most shops wont do a swap at all And it will be only good to those who stomps on the gas with the TL or want every last drop of HP..
Most of us? Don't or Wont have a Manual for a DD specially at Traffic and I'm all over that "Real Drivers" use Manuals since most if not All Super Cars in the world now are Automatics..
Also the AV6 trans aren't prone to failure dunno where you get that.. They are like every other trans in the world. If you don't care for it? it will surely die.
Ours? You can spoil it all you want, it will still leave you stranded at any given time. BIG DIFFERENCE.

hey does anyone have info or the breakdown on the swap and what will need to be changed or customized to make it happen or is it a bolt right on thing. please I need help im on my fourth tranny in my cl and I love it but its getting stupid at this point I need something that last longer then a year or 2

06-07 tranny swap into 03 TL S type
Well family and friends, I have had my transmission replaced with a 2006/2007 Honda Accord 5sp Automatic Transmission and all seems well. My car has 123k miles and the transmission has 29k miles and purchased at a junkyard outside of Philly for $975. After one week of driving and over 500 miles of traveling, all seems well. Shifting is seamless at all condition of driving. I have driven the car from 0 to 115mph and shifting was all on time and no delays.
When it comes to the installation of the transmission, my brother told me it was a direct fit with some customizations described by 666Wokker and his own customizations. Not sure what all had to be done, but advises that you flush the transmission fluid and swap all parts while the transmissions are side by side and out of the car.
I love driving this car, I never liked Honda products and wanted to get my wife a cheap yet reliable car. I am a new convert for the Honda products. I cannot stop driving this car.
All looking to get their transmission replaced, I advise doing the swap with the 2006/2007 Honda Accord 5sp Transmission.

^ yes the 06/07 V6 non-hybrid trans bolts right on with a few sensor swaps from the old to the new and the range switch. I just had my 02 Tl-s swapped and it never drove so well

03 CL trans into 03 TL
Hey there...found a beater 03 cl s type. The trans in the CL shifts fine, but the sport shift doesn't work, leading me to believe it's not connected to the ECU. Guy selling has lots of "no idea" answers. My main concern is : does the 2dr and 4 dr used the same trans? My plan is to either make CL roadworthy or put the whole drivetrain into the TL and rebuilding my motor.

good choice using 06-07 accord trans. i did as well drove for about 20k miles and for about a year, i do recommend using a trans fluid cooler also. only reason im pulling mine now is for the 6 speed swap, found the easiest way this route was to buy an entire wrecked cl-s 6speed from copart aution. i have less that 1200 into the car shipped to my driveway with less than 100k and rust free NC car.

To justify my threadjacking, I'll begin this post with a congratulations and glad to hear all went/going well with the swap. And now that I have respectfully disrepspected the OP here, any experts here know the power handling capabilities of the newer (newer as in newer than 03 TL) Accord/ TL auto transmissions? I'm suspecting it's 04-07 that is interchangeable? What's the differences (if any) in the newer Type S transmissions as opposed to base models? Once again, sorry OP...couldn't resist!

666Wokker im new to this forum no idea if your gona see this but, was wondering what moddifications do i need to do to make the 07 accord tranny fit in a 02 tl type s. my tranny is on its way out so im lookin to buy a accord tranny or another stock tranny and rebuild it with high performance parts and a trans cooler. I dont know what would be better at this point. I dont wanna do that to a stock tranns if its just gona blow again down the road.

ill tell u as an owner of an acura 2003 tl type s tgat was great info to no cause from 2001-2003 acura type s transmissions had a recall mine just went at 140k miles and no many people that had same car that went much sooner so great to info to no that u can interchange with a transmission that is more reliable for my money and not have to worry about the same recall happening.

I have an automatic 5sp 2000 Acura TL and need to get a new Tranny. I want to do the Accord AV6 swap. I think I found one... how can I check that the transmission I'm looking at will match my car? Is there a website to check by part #? Or does anyone know the part numbers that will swap into my car fine?

The most desirable transmission for your car is the Accord V6 (aka. AV6) swap from a 2006 or 2007 model. If you find a transmission, confirm it has a BAYA manufacturing code.

Is that the part number that I need? The BAYA? Thank you for your help! My understanding is that it could also be a computer issue after all is said and done replacing the transmission. Have you heard that as well?
