TL Diet 2.0/Track Car Build - Roll Cage Pg 51

Flashpro now comes with Bluetooth so you can make a display however you want a ton of choices like this
#1922
That's what I thought but wasn't exactly sure. And it will give anything hondata monitors/data logs?
My biggest things would be oil temp/pressure, water temp, and boost I suppose if I went that route. Everything would be nice but not essential.
Any restrictions on the device you use besides Bluetooth?

Any Bluetooth that you can download the ap onto, and any of the monitored items, check out flashpro tuning they have a bunch of diplays

No oil temp or pressure, yeah that's a bummer

Maybe I am getting old, but I still prefer my mechanical gauges. Steering wheel and dash mounting. Not a fan of the column mounting. Why not just make a panel out of carbon fiber or metal and mount it to the roll cage? That seems to be what most race cars do. Eventually want to add switches to the panel also. Would be nice to have an AiM or Stack Digital Dash.

Utah- it is a bummer about the oil sensors not being on the app. Personally I am starting to think most of the OBD based apps and 80% fluff for an avg customer. Just my opinion but looks like its old school gauges for now.

Cage date is set! About a month to go but I'll take most of that to make sure everything is tip top and ready for the builder. I think it'll end up being a 1.75" cage after all, just easier all around and I don't think it'll be much heavier than the 1.5" in the end.
#1931
Excited to see how the cage is designed. How much of the cage design is your input versus just letting them design it for you? Not surprised they decided on 1.75" tubing with a car this big, even though it weighs quite a bit under 3k lbs. The extra safety and chassis rigidity will outweigh the extra weight easily.
Still need to paint my roll bar. Not looking forward to masking it all off.
If you wanted to save more weight you could get the cage made from chromoly, but that is expensive.
Interested in how you design bars around doors and dash mainly. You gonna run nets or a Hans Device?

I will be controlling the majority of the design but will obviously take their input being they know their equipment and the material better than I. I don't see the 1.75" as any safer or more rigid; but, it's easier to get, and I'd imagine more cage accessories are based on it over 1.5" so at the end of the day it's just easier on everyone.

Yeah, I'm not looking forward to it either

It's definitely more expensive and many people say it's more brittle which makes me want to say away from it for a cage.

I've got a good handle on how the door bars will work but one area I'll take their input is on the dash bar. I want to keep the OEM one and tie it into the cage best as possible but we'll see what they say. Nets and hans are completely different in nature but NASA usually requires a window net for any racing class so I'll do one on those either way. Not sure if I'll be able to effectively run a right side net with my seat/shifter setup but I'll have to check the rule book on that one. Hans isn't my brand of choice but I'd eventually like some sort of neck/head restraint. My new harness will definitely be suited for running a Hans style device.

BOOM! found the press release I was looking for.
"The system utilizes an aluminum knuckle and double tubular wishbones. The light aluminum knuckle yields a weight reduction of 13.2 lbs. while providing 50 percent greater rigidity over iron"
so I'm guessing that's total weight loss for both sides so about 6.6lbs per side, sounds great to me!
here's the link for the press release: 2005 Acura TSX- Chassis - Honda.com

Interested if the aluminum knuckle fits our TLs
#1938
As for the knuckles, it isn't looking that great for my CL. There are some measurements that were different. It might be an easier fit for your 3rd gen. Your knuckles look very similar to 2nd Gen knuckles.
I might be willing to ship you the Knuckle if you wanna test it out. Atleast you don't have parking brake to worry about.
Might look into getting custom aluminum knuckles made in the future that I can bolt my hub up to. So much to spend money on first though, and I assume it will be expensive.
When I attended Ford's Racing School, the Focus and Fiesta ST's had hydraulic handbrakes installed like in Ken Blocks cars. You can do some pretty slick maneuvers with them, and I think it would help my autocross times.
For a fwd car you have to set rear up to either Rotate easy for tight corners or for more sweeping/slalom sections. You can't really set it up for both.
With handbrake I could set it up more for sweeping/slalom but then use handbrake for tight corners.
Not sure how to install/setup handbrake. Need to do more research. Any opinions on it vill0169?

I haven't looked and compared the 1g TSX spindles to the 2g TL/CL but they do look really close to the 3G TL spindles. I still want to see if it's possible. But even if the suspension arms mount up, that still leaves the question of the brakes. I really don't want to have to force myself to use the smaller rotors the TSX to get the lightweight spindles but we won't know til I try it I guess.
As for the handbrake, I'll be honest and say I have no idea man.

Awesome rear strut bar!
#1943
Nice some progress. When is your first track day or is it dependant of when car is ready?
I thought about a rear strut bar, but just let the shop decide what to do.
For the fender Louvers have you seen the ones on the new porsche gt3 rs? I really like the style they went with on the slanted fender.

track day is very dependent on when I get the car back and get everything else done. hopefully before memorial day I guess...
Yeah the venting on the RS is pretty crazy, too bad our fenders aren't nearly wide enough to attempt anything even similar.

fucking SICK Rex...the car is coming along very very well...
Couple things which i read in the past few pages:
1> Jpipe options, look into the ATLP V2R...it has 2.25" primaries into a 3" merge...thay way you can run a 3" exhaust right off it
2> Dash options...I am not too familiar with Hondata Flashpro, but you can get Torque and BT dongle...the only issue with this is, if you have more than 4-5 gauges on a page, there is a slight delay (very very very minute lag) in the gauges...but if you can get something which connects to Torque via a usb cable, that will speed up the transfer rate and avoid the lag...but if you get Hondata which plugs into OBD2 port, your only option could be to go with something which is compatible with Hondata.
PS: you cant run an OBD2 splitter...I have tried that option...OBD2 connects to only 1 device at a time...

The new J pipe is tempting but I highly doubt they'll do for me what Rich does at RV6, so I think I'll pick up a V3 J pipe this fall and make the new exhaust part of the off season build.
I do wish the OBD apps gave me something useful for data. If they did, I'd be much more tempted to pursue it for engine monitoring. As it sits right now, the info they display is just not beneficial to me on track.

yeah, with the TL the data is pretty limited...
You can just have the intake temps, throttle %, g meter etc

Man I need to get this car back in the garage, the list of parts to be installed is getting pretty long at this point.
Harness
Window net
Lexan front/rear
Hood louvers
Brake pads
Tires
Front Bumper mods
Sunroof plug
New rear wing uprights
That's just what I can think off at the moment. I think I need a shop bitch if this is all going to get done in time.

I'll run one on the front one, not needed in the back IMO. For the sunroof panel I'm going with the thinnest piece of aluminum I can find. Cheap, easy to work with and lighter in the end vs the old one. trying everything I can to offset the weight of the cage.

yup...looks like a brilliant piece of machining...
the angular holes look perfect...am sure Rex is gonna fiddle around with it for a while haha...
gotta appreciate the process as much as (if not more) than the end result

I was going to ask if they are used tires from Continental Tire Series because I know they use those and sell used sets dirt cheap online. You already answered that question though. Nice pickup.
What size are tires, can't read sidewall on my phone? Are your wheels 8" wide?
Gotta love yellow lettering. Official racecar look.
Hope you can make it to meet. Would you haul the TL along?
