Cool 1st Acura - 2006 TL Base

Happy to say that I am a proud new owner of a 2006 TL! Great find at my local Acura dealer with only 44k miles on the odometer. The vehicle is in great condition and I added in some service work to the selling price (timing belt/water pump, front/rear pads, and calipers to name a few). I am not mechanically inclined but I am a car enthusiast and wanted to replace my 2015 Subaru Legacy 2.5 with a sportier sedan. Needless to say, I could not be happier with my choice!

Anyways I look forward to browsing this forum, learning as much as I can about the car and learning from other members.

Heres a picture from delivery

Very cool! Super low miles, not a lot of those to be found.

Thank you! When I did a search for a TL with similar mileage there were only 2 within 250 miles of my residence. Very happy to find this one!

That's right! lol

Snow/ice hasn't been too bad where I am in Northern MA. I am headed to the mountains in VT this week so looking forward to seeing how the TL handles the snow.

Looking forward to getting some nice summer tires come spring. Was thinking of going with Continential Extreme Contact DW or Michelin PSS. Will do some more research here too.

Congrats on your awesome find as well! They are rare but they are out there. How has your ownership been thus far?

Its actually only been a week lol. I'm driving both TL and my old accord til the registration is due. But so far so good. I have to get use to a 6 speed tranmission.

Oh okay lol Hasn't even been 1 week for me. Give it a couple weeks you'll be rowing through the gears no problem!

Nice car man, excellent find! Mine is the same color and year. It was very smart of you to go ahead and do the timing belt service. Even though the owners manual just says 60k miles with no time interval, they probable assume that the owner will hit 60k within a 6-10 year time frame. Those engines are "interference" engines which means that you will have lots of internal damage if that belt were to break. The timing service isn't cheap, but it's less costly now than to risk it breaking due to the age of the rubber timing belt. Acura also recommends the brake fluid flush service every 3 years regardless of mileage so I would consider that if your haven't already.

Thank you for the post! Just seeing this now.

I agree re: the timing belt and happy I won't have to be worry about that for a long time. The dealer alleges they gave me "employee price" on the car and a la carte any work they recommended and I wanted done into the final price of the car. Other work I had done was new battery, heat shield removal, rear calipers, rear pads, front pads, front rotars cut, transmission flush and your reccommendation, brake fluid flush.

Needless to say the car is driving great!

Talking 1 Year of Ownership

Figured I would bump this thread after my one year of ownership to offer my thoughts.

I bought the vehicle with 43,848 on the odometer and drove just over 10,000 miles over the last year.

Pros: Coming from my Subaru Legacy, I love the power and sound of the V6. It is great passing ability and the sound of the engine when the vtec kicks in is awesome. The steering is great and very predictable. I like the weight and it feels much better than the electric power steering in other vehicles I've driven. I feel the car is the perfect size and it is very comfortable on long drives. It has performed well in the snow and I am just as confident in the TL coming from AWD.

Cons: Nitpicking really...Random rattles throughout the car though this is to be expected with age. No folding rear seats...not sure why Acura did not add this feature. I am not sure if its just my car but I also don't like the way the driver's door opens and closes. It doesn't seem to stay open at certain points.

Repairs: HandsFreeLink Unit. Besides that, no other issues.

Maintenance:
Battery
Timing belt, water pump, spark plugs, coolant
Front/rear brake pads, rear rotors, brake fluid
2 oil changes
Transmission fluid
PCV valve

Plans:
More maintenance lol
New summer tires, straighten/refurbish OEM wheels or replacement, alignment
LCA bushing replacement
Valve adjustment
Fluid film undercoating

Once the maintenance is complete then I may consider some minor performance upgrades when some things need replacement (J Pipe, exhaust). Then possibly the Type S sway bars...but thats about it.

Happy Driving!
