Nice! I have been twice 2014, 2015! It's practically next door to where i live. I went to the Italian GP in Monza back in 2011, and the Canadian GP in 2012. Best money i have ever spent!

Renault Car Unveiled

Renault Formula 1 team launches its 2017 car in London

  • By Jonathan Noble, Pablo Elizalde
  • Published on Tuesday February 21st 2017
Renault has become the third Formula 1 team to reveal the car it will use in the 2017 season.

After Williams and Sauber shared the first images of their new F1 challengers, Renault launched its RS17 in London on Tuesday.

Black has been added to Renault's traditional yellow livery, in the French manufacturer's second season back as a works team.

The re-shaped rear wing and the thumb-tip nose design are similar to that of the two 2017 cars seen so far, and it also sports the shark fin expected to feature on all cars this year.

It will be powered by the new RE17 engine, which is a departure from last year's power unit, having undergone a radical overhaul after Renault felt the old design had reached its maximum potential.

"The objectives is very simple, since we have for the first time a car that has been developed by us, we expect to be fifth in the championship," Renault Sport Racing president Jerome Stoll said.

"We have the team, the drivers, the partners and an organisation that is now managed under the leadership of Cyril [Abiteboul], and Bob Bell, so frankly I would say that we are hungry for the podium and hungry for success now."

Renault is aiming to bounce back from a dismal 2016 season it finished in ninth position, having scored just eight points.

The team spent a big part of 2016 restructuring and recruiting new staff, although team principal Fred Vasseur parted company with Renault last month, citing differences of opinion among the senior management.

Its recent hires include former Red Bull man Pete Machin as its head of aerodynamics, and Ciaron Pilbeam from McLaren as chief race engineer.

"We are the fastest growing F1 team, we have increased by 25% the headcount, some targeted recruitment," Abiteboul added.

"We have been investing to catch up - I think we lead [in that aspect]. "Looking at the regulations, we have best of what the technology can offer."

Nico Hulkenberg joins Renault from Force India to partner Jolyon Palmer, replacing Haas-bound Kevin Magnussen.

I gotta say I am not a big fan of the large aero fin on the top of these new cars. I know it servers a purpose but I just don't think it looks good. Also still waiting for someone to get away from this nose shape. That is now three cars we have seen and they all have the same nose design.

Few more:

I think it looks great. It is a little odd that the dorsal fin is taller than the rear wing, but doesn't look too bad to me. An improvement over Renault's 2016 car, IMO.

Is it me or does the bottom tray hug the tire more than cars the last few years? A rear blowout seems like it will take out half the rear tray.

Some teaser shots of the new Mercedes. Hurray for a good looking nose. If those teal and blue pin striping is actually real and not a lighting trick the livery could look really good.

Also Verstappen and Vandorne have released their helment designs. I wonder if this away a little bit of what each team is doing for their livery? Could Red Bull be staying with the matte paint job again and will we see orange on McLaren. I would really like to see some of that gold flake on the McLaren that would be cool.

On the W08, it looks like projected light, not actual striping
Also, on the new McLaren, I thought I'd read somewhere that they were going 'back to their roots' or something like that, on the livery. Maybe something like the 60s-70s F1/CanAm cars?

If I counted correctly, there are 42 elements in the front wing of that Renault
The CFD engineers and developers must be working lots of overtime

I would think the light would be seen on top of the sponsor logos though if it was light and not design and it is not. I am going to hold out it is part of the design cause I think it would be really cool.

The Force India is the ugly duckling so far in my opinion. That solid silver fin looks terrible. At least Renault put some design in it to try and tie it into the car.

Didn't catch that on the Petronas decal.

Agreed, not much change, livery-wise, from last year & the billboard dorsal fin just doesn't flow. Maybe it'll get something added to it, sponsor or some color.

That Force India is so bad looking. Not just the uninspired livery, but what in the world is that hump at the front suspension arm? Ugh.

I'll go back and stare at the Renault.

Some pictures of the Sauber on the track. Besides the black fin I really like this car personally. I think it has a cool retro look. It would be nice if the fin followed the same color scheme as the car.

The pinstriping like lines are real on the merc. I think it actually looks good. The mercedes actually has by far the best loking car so far as well. They have no more fin than was used last year and the front wing is the best looking design as well. The car looks huge though.

^ According to this, it's not finalized yet & will have a bigger 'dorsal fin' and a slightly changed front wing.

2017 Mercedes Formula 1 car breaks cover at Silverstone - F1 - Autosport

Mercedes' 2017 Formula 1 car - the W08 - has broken cover at Silverstone ahead of its official launch.

Three-time world champion Lewis Hamilton turned a series of filming day laps of the British Grand Prix circuit on Thursday morning.

The W08 to be driven by Hamilton and new team-mate Valtteri Bottas ran with a small shark fin - with a larger version expected on the car launched - as well as wider and more sculpted front and rear wings.

Its nose is narrower and features a more rounded end compared to the thumb stub as seen on rivals Williams, Sauber and Renault's new cars.

Mercedes has dominated F1 since 2014, when the championship switched to a V6 turbo-hybrid engine formula, winning 51 of the 59 grands prix.

Alain Prost says 2017 is key for Renault's long-term aims

Prost has upped his involvement with Renault F1 slowly over the last several years, noticed he was on the stage during the 2017 car unveiling.

The MB is very narrow in it's mid-section bodywork, wonder if the power unit engineers reduced the width?
another interesting thing is notice har far to the rear the upper front A-arm meets the steering knuckle.
The forward chassis A-arm attach point is literally in line with the middle of the wheel and the rear attach point is past the rear part of the front tires.
Pretty radical departure, wonder if it's suspension geometry, aero, or both?

Not sure how I feel about McLaren's look. I get the orange, but go all orange or don't. I don't love the orange and black look.

I like the Renault. Force india looks like The Merc we will have to wait for the final design but if it continues what we have seen its going to be a good looker, Im not so sure about the livery on the Mclaren but im sure it will grow on me. Aero looks like some time went into it. Ferrari I want to see some more angles better res pics. The front wing looks really plain compared to the other designs seen so far? I want to see whats under the nose. There appear to be things hidden in the shadows, and is a fin/wing allowed on the rear dorsal fin like Ferrari has?

Looks like the Ferrari has a similar T-wing like some of the shots of the W08, but sounds like MBZ may not go with a full fin like the others.
Also, not loving the MCL32, maybe it's the lack of sponsors, but the car looks a little 'plain'

FW40 & W08 are my favorites so far. Followed by the SF70 & Renault.
